Forward Area: 1-20 Infantry Headquarters is located at LZ Liz and will continued to work with ARVN units in their Area of Operations. At 0335hrs MACV Mo Duc reports 2 PF element’s in contact with unknown number of enemy at BS706618, requested gun ships at 0355hrs, Gun on station at 0405hrs. Sharks have negative findings, broke station at 0435hrs results 1 PF KIA and 5 WIA taken to LZ Snoopy. At 0932hrs 1-20 Infantry requests Area of Operation extension Date/Time/Grid 091800hrs to 100700hrs October 1970, BS7048 to BS7050 to BS757500, purpose Combat Operation, 1130hrs disapproved by CPT Can, resubmitted 1600hrs, approved Area of Operation # 59. At 1445hrs MACV at BS773425 found a booby trap in a hedgerow, it was a claymore with C-4 attached to it, pressure release type and destroyed in place. At 1508hrs MACV at BS774429 Request Dust Off for 1 PF hit a booby trap received frag to his lower part of his body, M-26 frag with trip wire, was in a field, no one on a trail, Dust Off completed at 1518hrs. At 1917hrs MACV Duc Pho with a C-2 rating 9 October 1970, 60 VC possibly from 83 Battalion at BS83466 to BS793469 to BS803468 in green uniforms their Mission to attack OP Duc MY, Nuoc Nam Bridge at BS771461, Ninh Tien (BS775446 to BS778446) tonight. 1-20 Infantry requests Time on Target fired at 1917hrs shot 15 HE rounds with 155 and 8" Artillery. At 2028hrs MACV, Vn Have a ground attack in process at BS724569. Have 3 VC KIA and 1 AK-47 estimated size unknown and attacked from the east with negative casualties for PF 167. At 2155hrs TMF S-61C sighted Stationary Target, negative metal confirmation and engaged at 2029hrs with 8 VT rounds 105 Artillery. At 2121hrs S-72B sighted stationary target metal confirmed and engaged at 2151hrs with 4 VT rounds 155 Artillery. Legend: 1st Platoon 54-59, 2nd Platoon 84-89, 3rd Platoon 34-39, 4th Platoon 04-09 and CO 12.
Rear Area: Battalion Rear continued their Mission of general support for the battalion and continued their Security Mission for LZ Bronco.
Alpha Company

At 0940hrs Alpha Company at BS741563, the 12 element detained 1 female detainee 38 years old wearing all black, negative ID now being talked to by the Kit Carson Scout BIU THI NGHIA, released. At 0950hrs Late Spot at 0430hrs 2 trip flares went off in front of 54 snake, 1 set off by a cat and the other was set off by two packs who evaded to the east were 3 chased with negative finding. At 1015hrs Alpha Company 34 element at BS739568 found footprints going to the north and a poncho, looks like someone was evading, checking out the area. At 1040hrs Alpha Company 34 element found 7 cans of rice about 30 pounds in good condition, this years crop, was not bagging for extraction was found at BS740563, 200 pounds total by the end of the day was 1,350 pounds of Rice extracted. At 1838hrs Alpha Company 12, 04 and 34 elements is moving to Night Defense Position they heard 2 warning shots. They sent a PF squad to check it out at BS741570 they detained 1 female age 40 wearing all back, she is being held as VCS. The shots were she said to warn that GI were entering the area. At 1900hrs Alpha Company the 12 element in Night Defense Position at BS740569, with multiple ambush. At 2055hrs Recon 54 element Urgent Dust Off for 3 US and 1Kit Carson Scout, received wounds from small arms fire during contact with unknown number of enemy. Gun ships requested and granted at 2103hrs KCS-Bong KIA, White frag wounds to body, Hall and Ellis minor wounds, the Dust Off completed 2120hrs.

Charlie Company
October 9, 1970
At 1020hrs Charlie Company 84 element found 500 pounds of polished rice and 50 pounds of corn at BS679584. Rice in good shape and found a booby trap at BS679589, 81mm round destroyed in place. The 54 element received heavy sniper fire, swept the area after Helix expended into it.
Delta Company

Delta Company continued their Security Mission for LZ Liz. At 1202hrs Delta Company 34 elements linking up with PF’s at BS771429, BS770435, BS774436. At 1415hrs Delta Company at BS777425 Tiles Charlie 70 found two ammo boxes one had polished rice in it, the other medical supplies. At BS773428 Charlie Tiles 70 found what appeared to be a bunker system, it was blown then checked out they found some clothing, ponchos and some parachutes from either 81 or 4.2 Mortar.
Echo Company

Echo Company headquarters and 4.2 Mortar Platoon is location on LZ Liz, where the 4.2 Platoon providing direct fire support for the Battalion. Echo Company Headquarters has the coordination responsibility for Base Defense. At 1750hrs Recon Platoon has moved out and now at drop off point, LZ Max. At 1918hrs Recon Platoon leaving LZ Max with the 55 element to BS745473 and the 54 element to BS746477. At 2015hrs Recon had moved off LZ Max approximately BS751472, about 400 meters down a trail when a man was picked up following the element 25 years old. The lead element then received small arms fire from the wood line to the south, 100 meters away. Came across 1 enemy with AK-47 engaged him, but could find only a blood trail when checking out the area received small arms fire from a bunker in a hedgerow and Kit Carson Scout and 2 US were hit while charging the bunkers. Trying to aid the Kit Carson Scout requests Dust Off for these 4 people completed at 2120hrs. Sharks came on station with Dust Off at 2115hrs and at 2123hrs 4.2 Mortar Platoon fired Illumination fire. Sharks expended in support of Recon Platoon and they moving in to check out area. Element checked out the area of contact and pulled out 2 Vietnamese from a bunker (negative weapons, 25-30 years old). Sharks broke station at 2305hrs. Results Total of 3 male CIA, with US pistol belt with 5 magazines full and 1 US grenade and also 1 new M-16. At 2055hrs Recon 54 element Urgent Dust Off for 3 US and 1 Kit Carson Scout, received wounds from small arms fire during contact with unknown number of enemy. Gun Ships requested and granted at 2103hrs, Kit Car Scout Bong KIA, SP4 Donald N. WHITE with frag wounds to head, right arm, right side and abdomen and possible brain damage. SGT Truman Hall Treated and released at 23 Medical with tram Left shoulder and SGT Dennis M. Ellis treated and released at 23 Medical with gun shot right foot, Dust Off completed at 2120hrs. At 2355hrs Recon 54 element is in location at BS746477 and the 55 in location at BS745473. SP4 DONALD N. WHITE was evac to the 91st Evac Hospital (11B20 see Echo Company 10/11/70).
