Forward Area: 1-20 Infantry Headquarters is located at LZ Liz and will continued to work with ARVN units in their Area of Operations. At 0340hrs Blue Ghost 41 on station for Box 66 and at 0405hrs Blue Ghost 41 broke station negative findings. At 0410hrs TMF Fire Mission, time called 0355hrs S-61 B stationary with metal confirmation, engaged at 0400hrs with 12 HE rounds 105mm Artillery. At 0715hrs Brigade no tracker dogs today, if you need 1 tomorrow, request them then. At 0715hrs S-4 reports 80A the Resupply ship on station. At 0840hrs 1-20 Infantry AMC on station Battalion Commander departed LZ Liz for Combat Assault. At 0930hrs 1-20 Infantry Combat Assault for Delta Company 1 PZ 0854hrs Delta LZ BS701487, 2 PZ 0910hrs Delta Company at LZ BS701487, 3 PZ 0921hrs Delta LZ BS701487 and Combat Assault was completed at 0930hrs, Battalion Commander returned to LZ Liz and AMC ship broke station. At 0900hrs TMF Fire Mission time called 0900hrs S-68 B stationary personnel with metal confirmation, negative clearance due to RD Zone. At 1540hrs Shark 6 and Recon, Shark 6 while making a Visual Recon at BS765546 spotted 1 military age male, approximately 20 years old. He evaded into a bunker location at the same location. Shark said he thought he had a weapon, requested 6 GI to be inserted at that location. Dolphin 15 prepared for pick up Dolphin made PZ at LZ Liz at 1555hrs and LZ at 1605hrs LZ cold. At 1634hrs 1-20 Helix 35 on station sent to Charlie Company. At 1638hrs Shark 6 at BS760540 spotted 14 fresh graves, he said graves were very fresh having been made within the last two day, Bravo Company 1-20 Infantry will search out the area on 10 November 1970. Legend 1st Platoon 12-18, 2nd Platoon 62-68, 3rd Platoon 82-88, 4th Platoon 32-38 and CO 44.

Rear Area: Battalion Rear continued their Mission of general support for the battalion and continued their Security Mission for LZ Bronco.

 

Alpha Company
November 9, 1970

At 0722hrs Alpha Company moving out from Patrol Base and using saturation patrolling of their Area of Operation. At 1843hrs Alpha Company is moving out for BS759415. At 2145hrs all units have closed on BS755414 and their Night Defense Position.

 

Bravo Company
November 9, 1970

Bravo Company will continue their Security Mission for LZ Liz.

 

Charlie Company
November 9, 1970

At 0720hrs Charlie Company all elements moving out for BS665578. At 0815hrs Charlie Company 3rd Platoon found 1 booby trap, (60mm round) freshly buried on a trail, with a smoke grenade cap, trip wire was not hooked up, and was destroyed in place. At 1030hrs Charlie Company at BS667587 has completed their sweep with negative findings. At 1800hrs Charlie Company Helix 35 reported to Charlie Company the following information: between the following grids in a trail which shows moderate use BS640556 to BS640565 to BS650565. At BS635576 is a trail on the north side of the Son Ve River, this trail shows heavy use. At BS640570 is a trail on the South side of the Son Ve River. This trail shows moderate use. At 1843hrs Charlie Company 82 element is moving out for BS659557. At 1880hrs the 1st Platoon at B668576 found 1 NVA helmet, not located on a trail, approximately 2 months old, with no unit designation on it green and in fair condition. At 1911hrs Charlie Company reports 12, 32 and 44 elements in location at BS663565. At 1958hrs Charlie Company reports the 86 the element is in location at BS650555, 62 at BS664563, 66 at BS652565 and 13 is at BS658575. At 2320hrs Charlie Company at BS658575, squad ambush of the 1st Platoon took 1 round of what is believed to be a friendly Artillery round, landed 1 about 200 meters outside their ambush, had negative casualties or damage. A check with Artillery says that they were not firing anything at that time. Charlie Company has been advised of such. Charlie Company says they heard 6 to 8 more rounds fired in distance and rounds impacted far away, said they had lost their sense of direction, due to the fact they were just waking for guard. They heard the round come over their heads, but had no idea where it came from or impacted.

 

Delta Company
November 9, 1970

At 0029hrs Delta Company leaving LZ Liz for BS724433. At 0430hrs Delta Company in objective area vicinity BS724433. At 0647hrs Delta Company begins sweep of village vicinity BS724433 and the Cordon and Search operation at BS724433 finished it up with negative results. At 0854hrs Delta Company stated their Combat Assault and end at 0926hrs LZ was at BS701487 was cold. At 1835hrs Delta Company 82 and 12 elements at BS701496 and the 32, 44, 62 elements in location BS702502.

 

Echo Company
November 9, 1970

Echo Company headquarters and 4.2 Mortar Platoon is location on LZ Liz, where the 4.2 Platoon providing direct fire support for the Battalion. Echo Company Headquarters has the coordination responsibility for Base Defense. At 0641hrs Recon Platoon reports the 12 element is moving to Patrol Base at BS763422. At 0745hrs Recon Platoon on their Patrol Base at BS732416. At 0945hrs Recon 1st Squad completed check of area from BS736410 to BS727409, and had negative findings. Saw foxholes and shelters filled with water and spider webs. Estimate negative personnel in the area for the last 7 to 10 days. At 1150hrs Recon Platoon is at checkpoint #1 at BS763412 and closed at 1201hrs at checkpoint #2 at BS763422. At 1309hrs Recon Platoon closed on LZ Liz. At 1540hrs Shark 6 and Recon, Shark 6 while making a Visual Recon at BS765546 spotted 1 military age male, approximately 20 years old. He evaded into a bunker location at the same location. Shark said he thought he had a weapon, requested 6 GI to be inserted at that location. Dolphin 15 prepared for pick up Dolphin made PZ at LZ Liz at 1555hrs and LZ at 1605hrs LZ cold. At 1645hrs Recon inserted at BS765546 to check out bunker found two entrances, threw in CS grenade, heard the VC yell, and called in to him to Chieu Hoi, no response, smoke grenades were then inserted to determine if there were other air holes or exits. The Recon squad leader attempted to crawl into the tunnel, but 1 of the sides was caved in. Concussion grenades were then thrown in, a scram was heard and the bunker caved in with the results 1 VC KIA.
