Headquarters and Headquarter Company
November 9, 1968

Forward Area: 1-20 Infantry Headquarters is located at LZ Cork and will continued to work with ARVN units their Area of Operations in OPERATION VERNON LAKE II. At 0820hrs Aerial Scouts at BS387485 engaged 10 NVA in Khaki uniforms, with out helmets results 3 NVA KIA, at 0905hrs at BS357583 found and destroyed 1 Hut. At 0900hrs Aerial Scouts BS354587 observed fresh trails and found night position, also at BS365607 found 3 green uniforms in hut destroyed. At 1715hrs 1-20 Infantry TOC reports at BS443577 Dust Off ship while en route to pick up possible Malaria case received 500 rounds of AK47 and (50 caliber) fire. Ship took 2 hits ship is down at LZ Cork at the present time, Suspect location of enemy BS438578.

Rear Area: Battalion Rear continued their Mission of general support for the battalion and continued their Security Mission for LZ Bronco. At 1420hrs 39 Engineer reports at BS799398 a Vietnamese Lambretta hit mine with results 15 civilians KIA and 5 CIA evac. Location was 1 mile north of Bronco entrance. At 1730hrs Cherry 33 reports at BS915245 received small arms fire on water truck bumper D-31 and truck D-35 when returning from water run. Received 2 M-79 and approximately 150 rounds of small arms fire negative casualties and hit 1 truck on radiator.

 

Alpha Company
November 9, 1968

Alpha Company conducted Combat Sweeps with light sniper fire but no significant contact. At 1055hrs Alpha Company at BS459571 found 2 carbine magazine full load of ammo and at 1245hrs Alpha Company reports their location at BS459566. At 1845hrs Alpha Company has moved into their Night Defense Position at BS462562. Alpha Company reports that SP4 Jessie B. Mason evac to 312 Evac Hospital at 1310hrs (FRIAR).

 

Bravo Company
November 9, 1968

Bravo Company Continued to use Combat Sweep operation in their Area of Operation. At 0959hrs Bravo Company are located at BS470576. At 1245hrs Bravo Company reports their location at BS470576. At 1845hrs Bravo Company established their Night Defense Position at BS468565.

 

Charlie Company
November 9, 1968

Charlie Company continued to conduct Combat Sweeps operations in their Area of Operation and at 0959hrs Charlie Company 92 is at BS462597, 32 at BS461591, 32 at BS461589. At 1245hrs Charlie Company reports no change as they continued to sweep and clear area. At 1845hrs Charlie Company has moved into their Night Defense Position at BS468564.

 

Delta Company
November 9, 1968

Delta Company continued their Security Mission for LZ Cork. At 1715hrs at BS443577 Dust Off ship while en route to pick up possible malaria case received approximately 500 rounds of AK 47 and 50 caliber fire on ship took 2 hits ship is down at LZ Cork at present time suspect location of enemy is BS438578. At 1715hrs at BS432520 element on south side of perimeter saw 2 people moving east at grid BS432576 dressed in dark clothes called in artillery with negative assessment. PFC Johnny Pritchett was evac to 27th Surgical Hospital.

 

Echo Company
November 9, 1968

Echo Company is located at LZ Cork where Battalion Forward is and coordinates with the Battalion Rear Elements and Base Defense elements on LZ Cork. The 4.2 Platoon is located on LZ Cork where they continue to provide direct fire support for the (1-20 Infantry Battalion). Recon Platoon continued to their OP at BS444624.
