Headquarters and Headquarter Company

Forward Area: 1-20 Infantry Headquarters is located at LZ Liz and will continued to work with ARVN units in their Area of Operations. At 1235hrs Helix 38 is putting in an Air Strike at BS715456 and at 1314hrs Helix 38 give Bomb Damage Assessment at BS715456, two trails cut, four fighting positions destroyed, one secondary explosion with yellow smoke and two large fires from 5 to 10 feet high. At 1424hrs Shark 7 at BS777426 spotted 3 blue military uniforms hanging from a clothesline and Shark 7 said he had received fire from this area at other times. At 1730hrs Alpha Company 32 was extracted from Recon from PZ at BS854379 and into BS753396 to return to Alpha Company control. At 1730hrs Recon Platoon was Combat Assaulted from PZ 805353 to LZ 855379 both LZ where cold. At 1759hrs Recon Platoon reports the 52 snake is moving to BS789357, the 33 element snake is moving to BS790341 and the 32 snake is moving to BS802369. At 2200hrs LZ Liz had a practice alert at this time.
Rear Area: Battalion Rear continued their Mission of general support for the battalion and continued their Security Mission for LZ Bronco.
Alpha Company
March 9, 1970
At 1110hrs Alpha Company is moving to our Day Logger at BS752386 and we are using saturation patrolling in our Area of Operation. Alpha Company we are moving to our Night Defense Position and have multiple ambushes in position. At 1714hrs Alpha Company 33 element returns to control of Alpha Company.
Bravo Company

At 0806hrs Bravo Company the 66 element found clothing with fresh bloodstains on them in the area that Primo called in Artillery at 784378. The PF say that about 2-3 VC were possibly wounded and also found a concrete wall and stone floor. Bravo Company requested shaped charges to blow the bunker and tracker dog team to check out BS784378 with negative results. Bravo Company recorded one VC KIA from Combat Assault by the 01 and 02 elements on 6 March 1970 (one VC LT KIA).
Charlie Company
March 9, 1970
At 0824hrs Charlie Company all elements have closed except for the 64 and 36 elements stay behind ambushes. At 1815hrs Charlie Company has moved into their Night Defense Position at BS732432. At 1919hrs we received on incoming round of M-79 fire from BS735434 with negative casualties and we engaged with small arms, 81mm and calling in artillery with unknown results. At 1950hrs Charlie Company 92 found 1 large bunker, booby trap. It looked like a string was attached to some sort of booby trap. The 92 and 95 elements will link up and set up ambush the bunker, check out again tomorrow at BS732410, and all other snakes in location.
Delta Company

Delta Company continued their Security Mission for LZ Liz. At 0450hrs 1-20 Infantry reports Radar sighted at 2245hrs 3 to 4 stationary personnel at BS728469 with negative clearance informed Charlie Company. At 0120hrs spotted 6 to 8 stationary personnel at BS789478 and engaged with 6 HE rounds of Artillery 105.
Echo Company

Echo Company headquarters and 4.2 Mortar Platoon is location on LZ Liz, where the 4.2 Platoon providing direct fire support for the Battalion. At 0630hrs 4.2 Mortar Platoon reports Schedule Fires 5, Observed Missions 3 and Defensive Targets 1 for total expended 17 HE, 2 WP and 37 Illumination. Echo Company Headquarters has the responsibility for Base Defense. At 0738hrs Recon the 34 element has closed on BS857385 along with the Alpha Company 34 and Alpha 33. At 0833hrs Recon Platoon reports the 52 element is moving to BS8439. At 0951hrs the Alpha Company 34 OP is at BS836396 and advised to move into the Area of Operations toward the Recon element. At 1111hrs Recon Platoon the 52 element has closed on BS857383 and at BS854394 to BS854395 we found there were fighting positions and it would be a good location for an Air Strike. At 1935hrs Recon Platoon we picked up one Vietnamese dressed in a blue shirt during the Combat Assault, he was of military age and well fed and had a grass cutter. He was turned into Military Intelligence at grid BS805355. At 1937hrs Recon we found some bunkers at BS849391 and BS846390. We also found tunnels and caves at BS850395 and BS852396. We also found sleeping position under the rocks at BS852400. At 1944hrs Recon Platoon reports the 32 element is at BS802364, the 33 element is at BS790341 and the 52 element is at BS789357.
