Battalion Forward: 1-20 Infantry Battalion Headquarters is located at LZ Liz as they continued their Mission in the working with and supporting the ARVN units in Duc Pho Area of Operations.

Battalion Rear: Continued your Mission of general support for the Battalion with enemy activities on Highway 1, both north and south of LZ Bronco.

 

Alpha Company
June 9, 1969

At 0700hrs Alpha Company received fire from the south moving north at this time. Alpha Company the Command and Control Helicopter 445 receive fire from automatic weapons, have called Artillery and request Helix at BS767372 at 0900hrs. At 1000hrs Recon found 2 bottles of Strata mica, 2 bottles of Penicillin, 2 bottles glucose at BS784414. At 1015hrs Alpha Company received fire from automatic weapons and returned fire with negative results and called for some air support. At 1130hrs Helix received fire and spotted what looks like a 51 Cal firing at fighters on the eastside of the hill. Alpha Company spotted what looks like 30-cal. machinegun and numerous AK47 firing at fighters also strike now in progress. At 1335hrs Alpha Company is at BS769372, and at 1415hrs Request a Dust Off for 1 US heat exhaustion belongs to E Troop 1st Calvary completed at 1413hrs. At 1430hrs Alpha Company found a 51 cal Gun pit with tripod and ammo and is now receiving sniper fire at this time from a hedgerow at BS766382. At 1630hrs Recon at BS766372 has 5 US WHA (E) Dust Off completed at 1620hrs 1 KHA E Troop. At 1700hrs recap and update: Alpha Company 3 KHA and 7 WHA, Recon 1 WHA, E Troop has 2 KHA and 3 WHA. Alpha Company moved into their Night Defense Position at BS765379 with snake at BS762388. Alpha Company PFC LEROY CONWAY, SP4 STONEY LEE DEEL, SP4 JIMMY ANDERSON INGRAM LISTED AS KHA. E Troop 1-1 Calvary 2 KHA LT RICHARD DOUGLAS MC KENZIE AND SP4 DENNIS STANLEY WOSICK LISTED AS KHA. Alpha Company reports 1LT Leo C. Beachell and PFC Michael Lindsey where evac to the 312th Evac Hospital.

 

Bravo Company
June 9, 1969

Bravo Company continued their Security Mission for LZ Liz.

 

Charlie Company
June 9, 1969

At 1335hrs Charlie Company is located at BS808387 and at 1630hrs Recon at BS766371 has 5 US WHA (E) Dust Off completed at 1620hrs (needs work) 1 KIA. At 2020hrs Charlie Company Night Defense Position is at BS808418.

 

Delta Company
June 9, 1969

At 1335hrs Delta Company is at BS709387 and at 2015hrs Delta is in their Night Defense Position at BS709386, with 23 at BS710377 and 13 at BS709388. End of fighting on the 9 June, E Troop 1-1 Calvary resulting in 18 NVA KIA, 12 of which where killed by Artillery (6-11) made up the early afternoon, loss to American Units 5 KIA and 11 WHA.

 

Echo Company
June 9, 1969

Echo Company Headquarters and 4.2 Mortar Platoon is location on LZ Liz, where the 4.2 Platoon providing direct fire support for the Battalion. Echo Company Headquarters has the responsibility for Base Defense coordinator. At 0700hrs Recon Platoon at BS784414 found 1 ton of unpolished rice would bag up and extract to LZ Liz. At 1000hrs Recon found 2 bottles of streptomycin, 2 bottles penicillin and 2 bottles glucose at BS784414. At 0900hrs Recon Platoon detained 2 VCS they will be evac to LZ Liz, negative ID’s. At 1400hrs Recon reports location at BS769372 and at 1415hrs Recon Platoon request Dust Off for 1 US heat ext. belongs to E Troop completed at 1413hrs. Recon Platoon and E Troop 1 Calvary move to support Alpha Company. At 1600hrs E Troop 11 Calvary 11th Brigade reports captured additional 5 more AK47 and 1 51 Caliber machine gun. At 1630hrs Recon Platoon reports location at BS766372 with 5 US WIA (E) complete at 1620hrs 1 KIA E Troop and Recon Platoon on way to joins the Reaction Force for the 174th Aviation, at LZ Bronco. At 1720hrs Recap and update of action Alpha Company 3 KIA and 7 WIA, Recon 1 WIA evac and E Troop 1st Calvary 11th Brigade 2 KIA (1LT RICHARD DOUGLAS MC KENZIE and SP4 DENNIS STANLEY WOSICK) and 3 WIA.
