Headquarters and Headquarter Company
July 9, 1968
Forward Area: 1-20 Infantry Headquarters is located at LZ Thunder and will continued to work with ARVN units in their Area of Operations. At 0855hrs 1-20 Infantry TOC requests 6 dogs and 6 handlers to work with Company Alpha, Bravo & Delta on 10 July 1968 from 0800-1700hrs, will pick up from Southeast pad at 0800hrs. At 1115hrs 1-20 Infantry S-3 to Major Mc Knight requested 1 platoon of Engineers to construct bunkers and put in wire around LZ Thunder. 1-20 Infantry will be able to give a little help in people, to Engineers. If platoon is not available would lie to have a sub, need ASAP. At 1130hrs Bravo Company 19 Engineer reports at BS786417 destruction of Dam is completed.
Rear Area: Battalion Rear continued their Mission of general support for the battalion and continued their Security Mission for LZ Bronco. At 1740hrs Military Police report at Bs771461, 2 (2 ½ ton) trucks received several rounds small arms fire. Later Bravo Company 19th engineer picked up a 10 year old boy at BS771464 who had gunshot wound, boy was turned over to Military Police at LZ Bronco.
Alpha Company
July 9, 1968
At 0800hrs Alpha Company is located at LZ Bronco. At 1220hrs Alpha Company is located at BS825367. At 2000hrs Alpha Company is in their Night Defense Position at BS781385. At 2040hrs Alpha Company 10 at BS783393 received 12 automatic weapon fire with negative casualties, returned fire, searched area, with negative results.
Bravo Company
July 9, 1968
Bravo Company continued their Security Mission for LZ Thunder. At 2129hrs Bravo 10 at BS843320 received 2 incoming M-79 rounds, negative casualties in their night ambush location.
Charlie Company
July 9, 1968
At 0800hrs Charlie Company is located at BS900303. At 0840hrs Charlie Company reports their locations 10 at BS925269, 20 at BS899308 and 30 at BS893207. At 1220hrs Charlie Company reports their location at BS898302. At 2030hrs Charlie Company at BS914290 spotted and engaged running south on beach 9 VC with packs, Request flare ship and 2 sharks, results is 1 VC KIA. Charlie Company established their Night Defense Position at BS901310 with ambushes and plan on sweeping area at first light.
Delta Company
July 9, 1968
Delta Company continued their Security Mission for LZ Charlie Brown. At 0500hrs Delta Company late entry at BS932243 the 32 spotted 2 VC moving, with negative results move back to CP will check at 1st light. At 1234hrs Delta Company at BS9312748, detained 1 VCS in hooch approximately 25-40 years old found khaki uniforms which VCS says are his uniforms looks like NVA. At 1815hrs Delta Company reports their location at LZ Charlie Brown.
Echo Company
July 9, 1968
Echo Company is located at LZ Thunder where Battalion Forward is and coordinates with the Battalion Rear Elements and Base Defense elements on LZ Thunder. The 4.2 Platoon is located on LZ Thunder where they continue to provide direct fire support for the Battalion. At 0923hrs Recon Platoon reports their location at BS483476 moving to BS481460. At 1530hrs Recon Platoon at BS485464 observed 5 males and 1 female some with weapons tried to detained them, lost sight of them at 1540hrs. Estimate group moved 300 meters and as element was moving back to last reported location received snipers fire from high ground. Established good commo with relay will move out shortly. At 2000hrs Recon Platoon reports they are located at BS481464. At 2200hrs Recon Platoon request there is a man going to Recon Platoon tomorrow. When he goes out have him take 1 case of M-79 rounds.
