Forward Area: 1-20 Infantry Headquarters is located at LZ Liz and will continued to work with ARVN units in their Area of Operations. At 0058hrs MACV, Intelligence Squad of PF 168 on a raid vicinity BS769513, engaged 2 VC, resulting in 2 VC KIA, 2 hand frag, 1 AK47 and assorted documents CIA, negative friendly casualties. At 0254hrs Sabre 40 is on station working Box 60 and at 0335hrs Sabre 40 vicinity BS655572, while checking Box 69 sighted some tunnels, black clothing an a camouflaged hootch, didn’t engage the area due to the proximity of a village. At 0340hrs Saber 40 broke station with negative findings in Box 67. At 0933hrs Primo 6 is on station for Command and Control Helicopter and breaking station at 1105hrs. At 1115hrs Helix 38 is on station, working the area around OP Wood stock. At 1800hrs Area of Operation extension from ARVN DATE/TIME/GRID 101600 to 142400 BOX 5 from BS707488 along road to BS740453 to BS740420 along river to start, approved AEP III. At 1830hrs Hornet 27, while flying near OP Pax, had 8 rounds fired at it with 1 round hitting the rear of the bird, then went to LZ Dragon to check it put, and resumed flight and was flying 200 feet and traveling at 75 knots when hit, was able to continue and completed his mission. At 2100hrs 1-20 Infantry LZ Liz Practice Alert and end at 2117hrs. Legend: 1st Platoon 54-59, 2nd Platoon 64-99, 3rd Platoon 04-09, 4th Platoon 34-39, CO-21.
Rear Area: Battalion Rear continued their Mission of general support for the battalion and continued their Security Mission for LZ Bronco.
Alpha Company

Alpha Company is using patrolling and some Day ambush in their Area of Operation. At 0815hrs Alpha Company Command Post with 3rd and 4th Platoons in their Patrol Base at BS727546. At 1200hrs Alpha Company 3rd Platoon has closed on BS727448 and 2nd Platoon patrol closed on BS708411. At 1845hrs Alpha Company 2nd Platoon patrol is in location at BS714413, Mechanical Ambush at BS708408. At 1900hrs Alpha Company 3rd Platoon ambush is moving to BS718452, Command Post 3rd and 4th Platoons is moving to BS725453. Charlie Company on combined operation with Alpha Company 1st Platoon on patrol engaged 3 VC/NVA at grid BS670545 have 1 VC WIA/CIA was hit in the leg, cheek, and rear with a 40mm round and captured with a AK-47 and full magazine. The remaining VC/NVA evaded to the north by northwest and 1st Platoon engaged the area with Artillery. They swept the area into some heavy undergrowth in the foothills and found indications of recent movement but negative further findings. There were negative documents on WIA/CIA. The captured individual indicated that the enemy uses the area of contact to move through every night. He is being held at OP Pax with frag wounds (minor) and will be back hauled to Military Intelligence tomorrow.
Bravo Company

Bravo Company continued their Security Mission for LZ Liz. At 2100hrs 1-20 Infantry LZ Liz Practice Alert and end at 2117hrs.
Charlie Company
February 9, 1971
At 0012hrs Charlie Company IOS at OP Wink sighted 1 personnel to the east moving south to north and engaged with 81mm mortars. At 0732hrs Charlie Company 3rd Platoon moving out to BS706543 and sweeping the area while moving. At 1905hrs Charlie Company and Alpha Company 1st Platoon vicinity BS670545 on combined operation have 1 VC WIA CIA and 1 AK47 also CIA. Artillery fired at 1908hrs, 81mm also fired as Charlie Company patrol engaged 3 VC/NVA at the above grid at a distance of 100 meters. The WIA/CIA was hit in the leg, arm, check, and rear with a 40mm round and was captured with AK47 and 1 full magazine, the remaining VC/NVA evaded to the north northwest and 1st Platoon engaged the area with Artillery. They swept the area into some heavy undergrowth in the foothills and found indication of recent movement. He is being held at OP Pax with frag wounds minor. Charlie Company reports the Vietnamese vicinity BS702532, ambush in contact and Charlie Company fired 81mm Ill in support and Vietnamese said there were surrounded and returned to OP Pax will check the area in morning. At 2000hrs Alpha Company and Charlie Company 1st Platoon closed on OP Pax. At 2115hrs Charlie Company vicinity BS693538, request Priority Dust Off for 1 NVA with frag wounds completed at 2130hrs.
Delta Company

Delta Company is location on LZ Liz and has taken over the Security Mission for LZ Liz and Road Security.
Echo Company
February 9, 1971
Echo Company headquarters and 4.2 Mortar Platoon is location on LZ Liz, where the 4.2 Platoon providing direct fire support for the Battalion. Echo Company Headquarters has the responsibility for Base Defense. Recon Platoon continued their Security Mission for 1-20 Infantry.
