Forward Area: (1-20 Infantry Headquarters) is located at LZ Liz and will continue to work with ARVN units in their Area of Operations. At 0730hrs Q Company sent people out to check the area where they had a trip flare go off, they checked the area out with negative findings. At 0805hrs Dolphin 503 is on station for resupply and at 0800hrs Primo 5 on station for Command and Control Helicopter and at 0855hrs Primo 5 is breaking station. At 1130rhs S-5 at BS760470 VIP purchased following items from 4 Vietnamese children at LZ Max., 1 B-40 rocket, 1 US 60mm mortar round, 4 home made hand frag (4 to 6 pounds), 2 home made hand frag, 3 Chi Com Hand frag, 5 M-79 rounds, paid 2,370 piasters for the ordinance. At 2228hrs MACV Mo Duc reference NO 10-12 092200hrs, 092110hrs December 1970 at BS734647, RF Command Post 1-16 unknown enemy unit, reaction to intelligence. RF 1-16 dispatched to ambush BS734647. Ambushed VC element containing 5 males and 1 female, no friendly losses, 3 VC KIA, 1 M-1 carbine CIA, not confirmed by US personnel rate F-1. Legend: 1st Platoon 83-88, 2nd Platoon 33-38, 3rd Platoon 03-08, 4th Platoon 63-68 and CO 09.
Rear Area: Battalion Rear continued their Mission of general support for the battalion and continued their Security Mission for LZ Bronco.
Alpha Company

Alpha Company is using Patrol Bases and Saturation Patrolling in their Area of Operation. Alpha Company Command Post in the vicinity BS768582 found 247 pounds of tobacco under trail, wrapped in plastic, evac to LZ Bronco. At 1949hrs Alpha Company Command Post, 1st and 4th Platoon BS766585, 1st Platoon ambush BS764584, 2nd Platoon BS760605, ambush BS757605, BS764602, 3rd Platoon BS774567 and BS770565.
Bravo Company
December 9, 1970
Bravo Company used Multiple Day Ambushes to start the day. At 1630hrs 3rd Platoon while in their Day Light Ambush location spotted 2 Vietnamese males 17-22 setting up a booby trap 200 meters to their north. They engaged the enemy with small arms and 40mm fire and assaulted the 2 males. Resulting in 2 WIA/CIA, 1Chi Com grenade, and 5’ of trip wire and one of the males was wearing all black, the other was wearing black shorts and white top, Dust Off completed at 1648hrs. At 2020hrs Bravo Company again multiple ambushes location around their Area of Operation.
Charlie Company

At 1600hrs Charlie Company 1st Platoon and PRU, reacting to intelligence moved to vicinity BS748438 in the hopes of finding 4 VC/VCI in a tunnel. They did not find the tunnel at the stated grid. However they did find 2 holes (5X5X4) which did contain a total of 1400 pounds of Rice. The unit did detain 1 male 51, with a bad ID card. He was taken to Duc Pho District. He was dressed in all blue. Continue the Security Mission for LZ Liz.
Delta Company

Delta Company continued patrolling their Area of Operation. At 0930hrs Delta Company 1st Platoon patrol is moving out for BS750580. At 1400hrs at BS746580, 1st Platoon while on patrol picked up 1 male detainee, 15 years old, wearing blue shirt and black pants. Evaded from a hamlet when he saw GI’s approaching, and was carrying 2 hats and 2 shirts, also had bruises and pack strap marks on his back and will send in on resupply bird today. At 1445hrs Delta Company 3rd Platoon closed on BS749547. At 1535hrs Delta Company 2nd Platoon is moving out BS7556545. At 1923hrs Delta Company Command Post 1st and 4th Platoon at BS750575, 2nd platoon BS760552 and 3rd Platoon BS749547.
Echo Company
December 9, 1970
Echo Company headquarters and 4.2 Mortar Platoon is location on LZ Liz, where the 4.2 Platoon providing direct fire support for the Battalion. Echo Company Headquarters has the coordination responsibility for Base Defense. Recon Platoon will continue their Security Mission for the 1-20 Infantry.
