Forward Area: 1-20 Infantry Headquarters is located at LZ Cork and will continued to work with ARVN units their Area of Operations in OPERATION VERNON LAKE II.

Rear Area: Battalion Rear continued their Mission of general support for the battalion and continued their Security Mission for LZ Bronco. At 0730hrs Charlie Company 39 Engineer at BS707608-BS727598 spotted 4 VC preparing to sniper at Mine Sweep Team, action taken fired 3 rounds 105mm Artillery rounds results VC disappeared negative confirmation. At 0730hrs E Troop 1 Cav at BS935225 at BS935225 1 VC with leg blown off brought to their location on the Hard Stand. People in Village brought him there, said his leg was blown off by a mortar round, last night and evac to Duc Pho notified IPW CPT Wolfe.

Alpha Company

Alpha Company will continue their Security Mission for LZ Cork.

Bravo Company
December 9, 1968

Bravo Company will continue their Search and clear in their Area of Operation and At 1255hrs Bravo Company engaging 2 VC evading at BS324582, resulting in 2 VC KIA with negative weapons, ID and packs containing rice. Bravo Company reports their Night Defense Position at BS324577.

Charlie Company
December 9, 1968

Charlie Company will continue to sweep and clear in their Area of Operation. While crossing the Song Tra Khuc River because of a very swift moving river at 1615hrs engaged 1 VC evading with results 1 VC KIA approximately (20 years old) with black PJ, and pack had small amount of rice. Sp4 Leigh was lost and all attempts to rescue proved unsuccessful and he was recovered. Charlie Company reports their Night Defense Position BS313583. Charlie Company reports SP4 JOEL MILLER LEIGH LISTED AS KHA body was recovered (see LATE REPORT on December 10, 1968).

Delta Company
December 9, 1968

During the day Delta Company has found several small rice caches and continued their Search and Clear Operation. Delta Company reports their Night Defense Position at BS368597.

Echo Company
December 9, 1968

Echo Company is located at LZ Volunteer where Battalion Forward is and coordinates with the Battalion Rear Elements and Base Defense elements on LZ Volunteer. The 4.2 Platoon is located on LZ Volunteer where they continue to provide direct fire support for the (1-20 Infantry Battalion) with Recon Platoon to continue their Security Mission for the TOC.
