Forward Area: 1-20 Infantry Headquarters is located at LZ Liz and will continued to work with ARVN units in their Area of Operations. At 0150hrs TMF String 73 was activated by 5 personnel that where moving southwest to northeast at 4 miles per hour and metal confirmed and engaged with 4 HE rounds of 105 Artillery. At 0645hrs Brigade to 1-20 Infantry 4-3 Infantry can only handle ninety personnel on LZ Dwarf and thirteen will have to remain behind. At 0935hrs CPT Mullen reported E Troop has 150 to 200 detainees coming from the mountains this morning. Major Witt is sending Vietnamese, 1 interpreter and 2 Mat personnel to grid BS719542 to be picked up by E Troop. The Call sign for MACV will be M26 and informed MACV Mo Duc that E Troop is Insult 55.70. At 1000hrs MACV Mo Duc, Major Witt, wants to change PF platoons with Delta Company the change would be on 10 August 1970. The exchange will be at BS740569 at 1100hrs. At 0940hrs 1-20 infantry we requested 2 flame tracks from Brigade and was informed it would be 2 to 3 weeks before any are available. Brigade will check and see if some are available sooner. At 1206hrs Intelligence a B3 rated (Very Reliable) states there are 13 VC with carbines, M-66 and AK 47 at BS821526, BS822423 and BS827422. The VC are there now but don’t know how long they have been there but may be there for a long time. The VC told civilians to say away because of booby traps. At 1225hrs Intelligence at BS684574, C3 rating, on 7 August 1970 there was an unidentified Company from 38 Battalion with 50 men and mission unknown, passed on to Charlie Company 3 Platoon 1-20 Infantry. At 1235hrs 11 Brigade reports Air Calvary Box 66 in the Upper Left BS6251 and lower right BS7243 in the Date/Time/Grid 100600hrs to 101800hrs. At 1705hrs 1 US driver ran over and killed 1 female civilian, 50 years old and wearing black bottoms and purple blouse, north of the access road toward LZ Max. The Military Police are to handle the affair and arrived at 1730hrs. S5 driver reported the accident. At 1730hrs the 26 Engineer reports a total of 49 hours were worked clearing 60 acres in the area BS693586 to BS695587 to BS690590 to BS688588 destroying 5 bunkers, 30 meters of trench, 1 booby trap and 1 81mm round. All the equipment is operational. Legend: 52-57 1st Platoon, 32-37 2nd Platoon, 72 –77 3rd Platoon, 42-47 4th platoon and 70 Commander.
Rear Area: Battalion Rear continued their Mission of general support for the battalion and continued their Security Mission for LZ Bronco.
Alpha Company

Alpha Company at 1120hrs arrived on LZ Liz to take over the Security Mission for LZ Liz and Access Road.
Bravo Company
August 9, 1970
Bravo Company we are leaving LZ Liz. At 1310hrs Bravo Company we request a routine Dust Off of one Vietnamese honcho with a high fever from 143 RF Company with the 35 element completed at 1350hrs from BS747666. At 1815hrs Bravo Company a Vietnamese child was brought to the Bravo 52 element location with a 155 round at BS684605. It was destroyed and 300 $Vietnamese were paid for it. Bravo Company with the engineers clearing the road found a couple mines with trip wire attached at grid BS744666 was destroyed in place. At 1925hrs Bravo Company the 35 element at BS730653 has one male detainee slight wound in head was evading engaged, 33, and Vietnamese feel a VC Dust Off completed at 1935hrs, to Chu Lai Military Intelligence.
Charlie Company
August 9, 1970
Charlie Company is OPCON to 4-3 Infantry 1 PZ 1013hrs, 2PZ 1040hrs and 3rd PZ at 1105hrs. Question is only Ajax of 60 go. At 0942 Charlie Company 72 element with Rations and resupply for 60 personnel include Hot A’s, two C rations per man, 1 M-72 law, mail and soda is OPCON to the 4-3 Infantry. At 1930hrs Charlie 72 ARVN friendly location will be at BS700574 and to move out at 0330hrs and 0400hrs in location.
Delta Company

Delta Company will use multiply patrolling and multiply Day ambushes in their Area of Operations. At 0915hrs Delta Company request an Urgent Dust Off for two VC children at BS714581, one child had frag wounds to neck and arm and the other had frag wounds to the leg, Dust Off complete at 0930hrs. At 1020hrs Delta Company 75 closed picking up one detainee wearing all black at BS773549. He said he is 12 but appears to be 16 or older. He had no ID, and Anmed Tran Nuoc, the detainee was digging in the dirt and evaded when he saw U.S. personnel. The detainee will be evacuated on back haul to Military Intelligence. At 1022hrs Delta Company the 34 element has released female but did not detainee a female, she was just on a morning visit. At 1945hrs Delta Company the 70 and 42 elements is at BS764557, the 32 element is at BS761563, the 52 element is at BS773580 and the 75 element is at BS762548.
Echo Company
August 9, 1970
Echo Company headquarters and 4.2 Mortar Platoon is location on LZ Liz, where the 4.2 Platoon providing direct fire support for the Battalion. At 0420hrs 4.2 Platoon reports Fire Mission 1 for a total expend HE 7 rounds. Echo Company Headquarters has the coordination responsibility for Base Defense. At 0804hrs Recon Platoon the 54 element is moving to BS725453. At 1325hrs the Recon 54 element is in the Day Logger at BS725454. At 1735hrs Recon Platoon the 54 ambush is at BS723448.
