At 0905hrs LZ Liz Requested by S-3 to personnel at Goldie Security Platoon these four pax to return to LZ Bronco tomorrow- All Delta Company personnel, The names #1 446 Grieser,j. #2 67R Butler r, #3 32b Rosebrook, J, and #4 106G Greeme, J.
Battalion Rear: Battalion Rear continued their Mission for providing general support for the Battalion.
Alpha Company
August 9, 1969
At 0740hrs Alpha Company is moving to base of LZ Liz at this time, ready for hooks. Alpha Company is going to Chu Lai for a Stand Down.
Bravo Company
August 9, 1969
At 0945hrs Bravo Company returns from Stand Down and Alpha Company going to Stand Down. Bravo Company is at LZ Liz for Security Mission.
Charlie Company
August 9, 1969
At 0830hrs Charlie Company is moving into their Day Logger at BS836430. At 1005hrs the 51 element moving out to BS833439 and closed at 1105hrs. Charlie Company moves their Day Logger to BS833427. At 1325hrs Charlie Company 91 and 51 are elements both moving out to BS833427 using a Recon in Force. At 1445hrs Charlie Company reports the 51 element ran into a planned ambush at location BS823434. Enemy size estimated from weapon fire estimate 4 with AK-47, 1 M-79, location of VC/NVA 250 meters north of the Charlie 51element grid. Enemy broke contact and evaded due north putting 81mm and Artillery on enemy position. The 51 element then searched the area finding freshly dug trenches and some bunkers. They blew the bunkers. No people or packs were in the area. At 1945hrs we are in our Night Defense Position at this time BS827427. We have just received on in coming M-79 round negative causalities. Charlie Company at 2010hrs the 93-BS833426 and 94-BS823431 are now in location.
Delta Company
August 9, 1969
At 0535hrs Delta Company is moving out of Night Defense Position to our Day logger position. At 1015hrs spotted a suspected VC walking across rice paddy, we went and captured him, 50. People around the area say he is VC and he had 2 women with him. 1425hrs at location BS734447 Delta Company found 2 ½ tons of rice buried in bin type storage covered by poncho type covers waxed all underground not in bags the PF will bag and Delta Company will provide security, all rice in same area but in one ton sections. Delta Company moved to Night Defense Position at BS738445, with the 51 snake at BS732444, the 91 snake at BS735449 and the 91 snake at BS735449. Delta Company 53 snake heard Vietnamese talking and moving around a trip flare went off and the 53 snake still heard talking and movements they shot M-79’s and blew claymores and then moved back to Night Defense Position. They then returned to sweep the area and take a position in the area. Requested by S-3 to personnel at Goldie Security Platoon these 4 packs is to be returned to Bronco Tomorrow all Delta Company Personnel Grieser J., Butler R., Rosebrook J., and Greeme J.
Echo Company
August 9, 1969
Echo Company headquarters and 4.2 Mortar Platoon is location on LZ Liz, where the 4.2 Platoon providing direct fire support for the Battalion. At 0650hrs 4.2 Platoon reports Defensive Targets 5, Observed Missions 6 total expend 28, HE 13 WP, 71 Illumination, 37 CS. Echo Company Headquarters has the responsibility for Base Defense. At 0735hrs Recon Platoon location which will become their Day Logger. At 1325hrs Recon Platoon reports there will be a 10 patrol go to BS724421 at 1400hrs. At 1535hrs Recon Platoon my patrol is back at our location at this time. At 2015hrs Recon Platoon we are now in our snake location at BS724445.
