Headquarters and Headquarter Company

Forward Area: 1-20 Infantry Headquarters is located at LZ Thunder and will continued to work with ARVN units in their Area of Operations. At 0800hrs 1-20 Infantry reports RF Company just now starting his move. At 1420hrs E Troop 1 Cav at BS815410 found a hole, inside found 1 ton of rice and 4 VC in hole engaged with results 2 VC KIA and 2 VC CIA, will evac rice and 2 VC to LZ Bronco. At 1825hrs E Troop at BS914155 LZ Lowboy received 12 incoming 105 rounds, 4 US WHA, 1 serious, rounds were fired by 173rd from LZ Tom and 173rd states that computer malfunctioned.
Rear Area: Battalion Rear continued their Mission of general support for the battalion and continued their Security Mission for LZ Bronco.
Alpha Company
August 9, 1968
Alpha Company continued their Security Mission for LZ Thunder and at 0929hrs at BS879320 found 3 Punji pits in hedgerow, Pits uncovered and destroyed. At 1000hrs Alpha Company locations 10 element is at BS881328 and 20 at BS883320. At 1104hrs Alpha Company at BS883270 observed 1 Vietnam female approximately 18 years old, evading into a village and will search for questioning. At 1805hrs Alpha Company location is at LZ Thunder with ambushes at BS873317 and BS878325.
Bravo Company
August 9, 1968
Bravo Company at 1410hrs is located at BS795375 and at 1805hrs Bravo Company establishes their Night Defense Position at BS804324 with ambushes at BS795323, BS797312 and BS803315. At 1700hrs at BS799328 engage 3 VC evading results 1 VC KIA, CIA Poncho, cooking utensils, salt and rice and 2 VC evaded to the Northwest.
Charlie Company
August 9, 1968
At 0823hrs Charlie Company at BS778355 observed 3 VC 1 with weapon moving east, calling in Artillery and ill check it out. At 1203hrs Charlie Company reports their location at BS785347. At 1805hrs Charlie Company in their Night Defense Position at BS775342 with ambushes at BS787346 and BS758393.
Delta Company
August 9, 1968
Delta Company continued their Security Mission for LZ Charlie Brown. At 1805hrs Delta Company ambush location at BS924176, BS917187, and BS900258.
Echo Company
August 9, 1968
Echo Company is located at LZ Thunder where Battalion Forward is and coordinates with the Battalion Rear Elements and Base Defense elements on LZ Thunder. The 4.2 Platoon is located on LZ Thunder where they continue to provide direct fire support for the (1-20 Infantry Battalion). At 0800hrs Recon Platoon reports their location at BS759328. At 1000hrs Recon Platoon reports their location at BS763324. At 1410hrs Recon Platoon reports their location at BS763316. At 1600hrs Recon Platoon at BS759315 engaged 2 VC evading with results 1 VC KIA along with 1 poncho, cooking utensils, salt and small ration of Rice CIA and 2nd VC evaded to the northwest.
