Headquarters and Headquarter Company

Forward Area: 1-20 Infantry Headquarters is located at LZ Liz and will continued to work with ARVN units in their Area of Operations. At 0405hrs 1-20 Infantry Radar at 2055hrs sighted 3 to 5 stationary personnel at BS768418 and engaged with 9 HE rounds of 4.2 Mortar and at 2135hrs 6 to 8 personnel were sighted moving northwest at BS707430 and engaged with 9 HE and 8 HE rounds of Artillery 105mm. At 2310hrs 3 to 5 stationary personnel were sighted at BS730442 with negative clearance and Charlie Company Infantry and at 0030hrs 1 to 5 stationary personnel were sighted at BS791418 and engagement was not cleared due to the proximity of Charlie Company. At 0632hrs A Troop is moving out. At 0710hrs A Troop we have linked up with Recon Platoon, the element found a booby trap at BS843414. The trap consisted of a concussion grenade with a trip wire attached, it was blown in place. At 0805hrs A Troop the 16 element is at BS834414, the 36 element is at BS834403 and the 26 element is 1 click northwest of the 36 element. At 0810hrs A Troop the 36 element found a sign written in Vietnamese, made of a C ration box and mounted on a stake. There were about 5 lines of writing which appeared to be mounted as so as to be read on emerging from the water, more to follow. At 0817hrs Warlord Lead is on station and working in the western part of your Area of Operation. At 0840hrs A Troop the 24 element is having trouble with a track. It will be escorted by the 26 element to highway 1 for pick up and maintenance. At 0904hrs A Troop the 26 element is at BS833420 and will be moving to Highway 1 with the 24 element and the 16 element is at BS834414 with the 26 element and Recon Platoon is at BS835403. At 1525hrs A Troop we request a routine Dust Off for 1 US with a frag wound of the arm. He received these wounds from friendly M-79 fire, completed at 1725hrs. At 1600hrs A Troop the 16 and 36 elements are moving from Day Logger and the 26 element is moving back from highway 1 to Gaza. At 1840hrs Recon and A Troop the Recon 63 element is in their snake location at BS820437 and the 36 element and Recon is at BS823436. Alpha Troop 1-1 Cav reports SSGT William F. Duffner, (Friar) treated and released in the field with frag wound back.
Rear Area: Battalion Rear continued their Mission of general support for the battalion and continued their Security Mission for LZ Bronco.
Alpha Company
April 9, 1970
At 1115hrs Alpha Company report that 41, 61, 62 patrols have closed on BS778386 and at 1136hrs the 02 element picked up at female, 39, with pole marks on her shoulders at BS772392. She was wearing black pajamas and apparently she is pregnant, also wearing a clasp in her hair very similar to the one found on the woman KIA a few days ago. She has a ID and was released by Alpha Company at 1700hrs. The 01 element is moving to their Night Defense Position at BS782384 with no Mechanical Ambush out.
Bravo Company

At 0714hrs Bravo Company again is moving out to security the Rice Harvest and 64 will provide road security at BS786394. In the night operations Bravo Company working with the ARVN units set up multiple ambushes along with 4 Mechanical Ambush out.
Charlie Company
April 9, 1970
At 0700hrs Late Report the documents captured last night from the NVA at 2115hrs was interpreted by the Kit Carson Scout as orders which state the NVA is a CPT, and he has 20 men with him at the base of the mountain, he took four men on a scouting party to Recon LZ Liz. Also said the documents stated they were to hit LZ Liz with rockers and mortars within the 10 days. He had on a red shirt and trousers, one gray uniform and his last name was Guang. At 0910hrs Charlie Company the 44 element is moving out, the 03, 04, 04, 05, 65, 43 and the 45 element have closed on BS733441 and the 63 element is moving back to BS733441. At 1015hrs Charlie Company at BS734443, Charlie Company found VC paper work and will hold them for extraction. At 1930hrs we are in out Night Defense Position at BS731430, the 45 element is in their snake at BS727435 and the 04 element is moving to BS735467. Charlie Company has multiple ambushes out with one sniper location. At 2230hrs Charlie Company the 43 element at BS707435 spotted lights and when artillery was called in the lights went out. We will check out the area in the morning.
Delta Company

Delta Company continued with their Security Mission for LZ Liz. At 0940hrs Delta Company elements have closed on LZ Liz. At 1552hrs Delta Company the 01 element is moving to BS745440 and the 61 element is moving to BS745438. At 1955hrs Delta Company roving patrols for the Access Road are in location with 4 Mechanical Ambush out. Delta Company reports that SP4 Leonard Perrine was attached to 91st Evac Hospital.
Echo Company

Echo Company headquarters and 4.2 Mortar Platoon is location on LZ Liz, where the 4.2 Platoon providing direct fire support for the Battalion. At 4.2 Platoon reports Observed Mission 11 and Unobserved Mission 1 for a total expended of 18 HE and 120 Illumination rounds. Echo Company Headquarters has the responsibility for Base Defense. At 0710hrs A Troop we have linked with Recon Platoon, the element found a booby trap at BS843414. At 0904hrs A Troop the 26 element is at BS833420 and will be moving to Highway 1 with the 24 element and the 16 element is at BS834414 with the 26 element and Recon is at BS835403. 1840hrs Recon and A Troop the Recon 63 element is in their snake location at BS820437 and the 36 element and Recon is at BS823436.
