Headquarters and Headquarter Company
September 8, 1969

Battalion Forward: 1-20 Infantry Headquarters is located at LZ Liz and continued their working with the ARVN units in their Area of Operations. At 0445hrs Effective immediately- there will be no offensive operations only for security. At 0555hrs Command Message to pass on to companies (Take your big pill today). At 0605hrs 11th Brigade Heavy weather warning Heavy showers throughout the day with gusts up to 15-20 knots from the east. At 0730hrs 1-20 Infantry request LRRP team to be put in 0600hrs 10 September at BS705405and move to southeast BS715455. Recon Platoon the area for trails and enemy locations and what unit if possible and how much the trails are used.

Battalion Rear: Battalion Rear continued their Mission for providing general support for the Battalion. At 0845hrs Charlie Company 39 Engineer at BS755495 while on mine sweep, found 1 30 pounds mine approximate 8’ north of culvert 402l and 6’ from shoulder with bamboo pressure plate and now destroyed. Headquarters and Headquarter Company reports PFC Luther Messengill was evac to the 91st Evac Hospital sick.

 

Alpha Company
September 8, 1969

Alpha Company continued their Security Mission for LZ Liz and the Access Road.

 

Bravo Company
September 8, 1969

At 0445hrs EFFECTIVE IMMEDIATELY- There will be no offensive operations only for Security and keep 1-1 Cavalry to a minimal due to the poor weather. At 0505hrs Bravo Company 64 element has closed on northern bridge site and at 0550hrs 63 has closed on the southern bridge site. At 0800hrs Bravo Company Command Post at BS783434, 64 BS771461, 69 and 63 at BS783434, with 64 BS774454, 63 BS704428, 93 BS777448 with 67 BS797416 and at 2300hrs will move to BS795513. At 1515hrs Bravo Company 67 element at 2000hrs will go to BS790437, then move back to southern bridge at 2300hrs and at 0530hrs will move to BS795425. At 0700hrs Bravo Company has move back to southern bridge. At 1845hrs S-3 Liz talked with 39th Engineer and will give Bravo Company their locations on cipher. At 1925hrs Bravo Company 64 just moved out on tonight operations and 92 in location rest of Company in our Night Defense Position. At 1045hrs Bravo Company 64 and 63 snakes are in their location.

 

Charlie Company
September 8, 1969

At 0620hrs Charlie Company 54 and 67 have closed on Night Defense Position. At 1105hrs Charlie Company reports #421 will be coming in for job on Montezuma and Line # 452 will be coming in for 4 to 5 days. At 1120hrs Charlie Company 62 closed on Day Logger (BS743440) and the 32 element is moving out as local security for Day Logger and at 1425hrs 32 reports it location at BS742437. At 1538hrs the 32 has closed on the Day Logger position. At 1610hrs Charlie Company we found 105mm artillery round at our Day Logger and will blow it in place. At 1800hrs Charlie Company is located in Day Logger the vicinity of BS743440 and at 2010hrs Charlie Company is moving into their Night Defense Position at BS737442 with 36 at BS734442 and 95 at BS737442.

 

Delta Company
September 8, 1969

At 0445hrs 1-20 Infantry effective immediately there will be no offensive operation only for Security due to the weather conditions. At 1105hrs Delta Company reports that Line # 77C will be coming in and attached to LZ Liz. Delta Company is at their Night Defense Position vicinity BS733543, 32 and 62 at BS736533 with the two tracks.

 

Echo Company
September 8, 1969

Echo Company headquarters and 4.2 Mortar Platoon is location on LZ Liz, where the 4.2 Platoon providing direct fire support for the Battalion. At 0630hrs 4.2 Platoon reports Schedule Fires 4, Observed Mission 2 and Defense Targets 2 for a total expended 14 HE and 30 Illumination rounds. Echo Company Headquarters has the responsibility for Base Defense. At 0445hrs Effective immediately- there will be no offensive operations only for security. 0605hrs 11th Brigade reports Heavy weather warning Heavy showers throughout the day with gusts up to 15-20 knots from the east. Recon Platoon remains on LZ Liz for their Security Mission.
