Headquarters and Headquarter Company

Forward Area: 1-20 Infantry Headquarters is located at LZ Liz and will continued to work with ARVN units in their Area of Operations. At 0240hrs TMF at 0131hrs S-75B sighted stationary target with no metal confirmation, with negative clearance due to RD Zone. At 1200hrs S-5 reports paid 3400 Piasters to 6 Vietnamese children 10 to 15 years of age for the following items, 18 M-79 HE rounds, 3 claymores, 2 claymore firing devices, 3 M-72 laws, 9 60mm HE rounds and 2 Rifle grenades. Also 1 Chi Com Mine, 2 M-79 HE, 2 M-79 Canister rounds, 2 hand frag, 1 2.75 rocket, 9 AK 47 rounds, 3 Chi Com grenades, 1 81mm WP, 2 mackerel cans (1 Booby Trap the other filled with starch). All items destroyed in place except for M-79 rounds, which were evac to LZ Liz. At 1605hrs Brigade any civilian correspondence that shows up any place in our Area of Operation should be reported immediately to LZ Bronco 187 Public Information. At 2250hrs TMF at 2215hrs S-76 sighted Stationary Target metal was confirmation and engaged with 8 HE rounds 155 Artillery. Legend: 1st Platoon 54-59, 2nd Platoon 84-89, 3rd Platoon 34-39, 4th Platoon 04-09 and CO 12.
Rear Area: Battalion Rear continued their Mission of general support for the battalion and continued their Security Mission for LZ Bronco.
Alpha Company

Alpha Company reports 34 element at BS739562 found 900 pounds of unpolished rice, good condition, this year crop, inside the walls of a hootch. The 12 element found 1,000 pounds of unpolished rice in good condition, this years crop, inside the wall of hootches at BS739565, the 84 element found 400 pounds of rice at BS742524, unpolished in good condition, this years crop inside the walls of hootches. At 1600hrs Alpha Company extracted of rice completed total size 5,600 pounds the size of the rice cache that they had found was a little under estimated. At 1935hrs Alpha Company all elements in location Command Post at BS740503, 54 at BS740560, 37 at BS740563, 35 at BS745566, 84 at BS741564, 85 at BS741562, and the 04-12 elements at BS740563.
Bravo Company

At 0930 Bravo Company 39 element has one female detainee at BS714573, age 23, altered ID and wife of VC will be extracted to MACV. The Bravo Company the 54 element is moving out to BS745655 and 86 is moving out to BS727649. At BS689579 the 36 element found 2 hootches camouflaged inside and 1 hole 2 X 2 X 3 that had once held rice, seems that the hootches had been occupied with the last week.
Charlie Company

At 0630hrs Charlie Company reports the 54 element is moving out for BS681598. At 0705hrs Charlie Company 04, 12, and 34 moving out to patrol base at BS689579. The 37 element is moving out to BS686578 with the 58 element moving out to BS670600. At 0932hrs Charlie Company the 57 element is moving out for BS675605. At 1020hrs Charlie Company 84 element found 1 ton of polished rice at BS679584, in a hole 4’ X 5’ X 4’, hole was lined with a VC poncho and covered by a poncho, and was in good condition. The 54 element found a booby trap at BS872589, 81mm round with pressure type device Round # Om-8-14-11-69-81mm-301A2 was parallel with a trail at this location and was destroyed in place. At 1030hrs Charlie Company found 50 pounds of corn in a metal container covered by a VC poncho at BS685583, good condition, evac along with the rice. At 1545hrs Charlie Company 54 element received sniper fire from BS675592 they received a heavy volume of fire. The 55 and 34 elements is moving and Helix 36 on station at 1605hrs is working out with elements. The 55 element is also receiving sniper fire. Helix now is expending into the area of sniper fire think they have spotted some movement and are checking spider holes, bunkers and etc. Helix still on station, the 54 element checked the area with negative findings except for foot prints leading to the west and the 54 element is now sweeping the area. Helix wants to have an Air Strike on BS658591, negative Air Strike. At 1600hrs Alpha and Charlie Companies reports a total amount of rice extracted Alpha Company 1300 pounds and Charlie Company 500 pounds. At 1948hrs Charlie Company the 54 element in location at BS675596, the 36 element at BS688583, 34, 12 and 04 in location at BS689585, the 84 element in location at BS670580, 54 and 84 has 3 Mechanical Ambushes each in the area of sniper fire they received today at BS675592.
Delta Company

Delta Company continued their Security Mission for LZ Liz and the Access Road.
Echo Company
October 8, 1970
Echo Company headquarters and 4.2 Mortar Platoon is location on LZ Dragon, where the 4.2 Platoon providing direct fire support for the Battalion. Echo Company Headquarters has the coordination responsibility for Base Defense. Recon Platoon continued their Security Mission for 1-20 Infantry on LZ Liz.
