Forward Area: 1-20 Infantry Headquarters is located at LZ Dottie and will continued to work with ARVN units their Area of Operations. At 004hrs Delta Company on LZ Uptight at BS729849 at 072348hrs October 1968 received 15 rounds 82mm Mortar Scrambled Gun Ships and Flare Ship returned fire with Artillery and Mortars. At 0116hrs 1-20 Infantry at BS729849 reports results of LZ Uptight received 25-30 rounds (60mm and 82mm) Mortars fire with results 1 KHA, 8 WHA (E), 12 WHA (M) and 10 Vietnamese National Police where evac. At 0415hrs 1-20 Infantry reports LZ Uptight received 1 round mortar believe to be 60mm about 8’ outside of perimeter northern side, negative casualties. At 0730hrs Helix 04 begin to conducts Air Strike at BS778862 on bunkers and trenches as they continue, to provide Air Strikes ahead of advances units for bunkers and trenches along with mines and booby traps. At 0843hrs Helix 31 spotted 2 people at BS758580 will check area with negative results. At 0938hrs Aerial Scouts at BS723884 engaged 1 VC evading results 1 VC female KIA and remains of 1 carbine CIA. At 1315hrs Alpha Company at BS782845 hit a booby trap with 12 WHA, Command and Control Helicopter Dusting Off the Wound along with 2 WHA from E Troop. At 1344hrs 1-1 Calvary at BS685928 found camouflaged path and a bunker about 15’ deep. At 1420hrs Recon Platoon at BS701834 destroyed 2 sand pans which contain approximately 2000 pounds of rice and salt mixed. At 1400hrs Division Aviation was notified, Major Danner notified Division G-3, 6-11 Artillery at Uptight is down to 400 HE rounds. Colonel Barnard requested a Tactical Emergence and the 6-11 Artillery normally has around 1500 rounds on hand, they have fired over 700 rounds since operation has started. At 1627hrs 1-20 Infantry reports 1-1 Calvary reports their location at BS675930. At 1630hrs Message from MACV Quang Ngai unless the 11 Brigade has much more action on 9 October the 2 ARVN Division is going to start withdrawing their blocking force. At 1857hrs 1-20 Infantry reports that 1-1 Calvary their location at BS655920 and are on the move to LZ Dottie.
Rear Area: Battalion Rear continued their Mission of general support for the battalion and continued their Security Mission for LZ Bronco.
Alpha Company
October 8, 1968
At 0832hrs Alpha Company is at BS773853 and at 1003hrs Alpha Company and E Troop 1-1 Calvary is at BS774247 is working to objective 4. At 1315hrs Alpha Company at BS782845 hit a Booby Trip results 12 WHA Command and Control Helicopter and Dust Off was dusting out the personnel E Troop had 1 WHA also, Dust Off was completed at 1301hrs. Alpha Company hit a M-16 anti personnel mine, the concussion from the mine caused a M-72 law detonate on a man’s back. 12 men were Dust Off. Then at BS782845 one man stepped on a M-16 anti personnel mine results 1 KHA and 2 WHA Dust Off completed at 1420hrs. At 1605hrs Task Force Alpha at BS782845 attacked to search and clear and seize objective 4 by 1857hrs they establishes a Night Defense Position at BS774828. Alpha Company reports KIA CPL JAMES THOMAS LONG AND SP4 STEVE PERRY LISTED AS KHA. Also reports WHA SP4 Terry Lee Hess at 1210hrs, PFC David L. Stokes, SP4 Edward A. Panther with frag wounds at 1240hrs and SP4 Gary Wayne Bartow at 1430hrs where evac with frag wounds and attached to the 312th Evac Hospital.
Bravo Company

1st Cav unit could not make link up with Bravo Company 1-20 Infantry. TFB minus 1-1 Cav continued the attack at First light to secure objective 3. Naval gunfire was used extensively to prep Objective 3. At 1110hrs Bravo Company detained 2 VC’s at BS778857 who were later classified as POW’s from the 48th Battalion and the P-31 LF Co. Bravo Company 1-20 Infantry continued the attack to objective 5. At 1344hrs C Troop 1-1 Calvary at BS685928 found a camouflaged path and a bunker about 15’ deep. Recon is located at BS761834, destroyed 3 sampans which contained approximately 2000 pounds of salt and rice mixed. At 1627hrs Bravo Company is at BS788850 and by 1855hrs Bravo Company has moved into their Night Defense Position. The C troop 1-1 Calvary is on the move to LZ Dottie. At 1905hrs Bravo Company had a couple of men digging in for the night hit a mine results 3 US WHA, Dust Off completed at 1900hrs. Bravo Company reports that SP4 Richard L. Gray, SP4 Dennis M. Brady, and PFC Herbert F Kay where evac to 312th Evac Hospital.
Charlie Company
October 8, 1968
At 0823hrs Charlie Company and Recon locations are at BS752838. Charlie Company continued to search and clear in their zone and secured Objective 8, with Recon Platoon reported finding over 1 ton of rice and salt mixed between 1400hrs and 1445hrs. All rice along with 3 sampans was destroyed. At 1845hrs Charlie Company at BS756837 received automatic weapon fire with 81mm and M-79 and sniper fire ceased. At 1857hrs Charlie Company and Recon reports their location at BS856834, 68 and Command Post BS754834, Recon BS759837 and Charlie Company 82 BS856837.
Delta Company

Delta Company continued their Security mission on LZ UPTIGHT and Battalion Reserve for OPERATION LOGAN FIELD. At 0415hrs 1-20 Infantry reports LZ Uptight received 1 round Mortar fire believe to be 60mm about 8’ outside of perimeter northern side, negative casualties.
Echo Company

Echo Company is located at LZ Dottie where Battalion Forward is and coordinates with the Battalion Rear Elements and Base Defense elements on LZ Dottie. The 4.2 Platoon is located on LZ Uptight where they continue to provide direct fire support for the (1-20 Infantry Battalion). At 0822hrs Recon Platoon reports their location with Charlie Company at BS752828. At 1007hrs Charlie Company and Recon Platoon reports their location at BS758834. At 1857hrs Recon Platoon reports their location at BS758837.
