Forward Area: 1-20 Infantry Headquarters is located at LZ Liz and will continued to work with ARVN units in their Area of Operations. At 0420hrs 1-20 Infantry TOC Radar Targets At 1926hrs 6 to 7 stationary personnel at BS744377 and engaged with 8 HE of Artillery 105mm and at 1940hrs TMF sighted 4 personnel moving south to north at BS790366 and engaged with 10 HE of Artillery 105mm. At 2015hrs 6 to 8 stationary personnel were engaged at BS819455 with 20 HE of Artillery 155mm. At 2130hrs 10 to 15 stationary personnel were sighted at BS781463 with MACV informed. At 2225hrs 10 to 15 stationary personnel were sighted at BS735419 and where engaged with 17 HE of 4.2 Mortar and at 2355hrs 30 to 40 stationary personnel were sighted at BS796450 and engaged with 7 HE of Artillery 155mm. At 0155hrs 5 to 7 stationary personnel were spotted at BS832426 and engaged with 12 HE of Artillery 105mm. At 0455hrs TMF sighted an unknown number of personnel with metal detected at BS795371 with Bravo Company informed. At south OP WO1 Lynch reported a dud 105mm, 81mm round at the base of the south OP on the north side. Delta Company squad checked it out at 1550hrs and was completed at 1645hrs. At 1330hrs Brigade all Combat Assaults requests will contain the reason, intelligence source, intelligence reliability and nature of the intelligence. At 1335hrs Headquarters and Headquarters Company 1SGT was informed to tell SSGT Nivens to go to Bravo Company then to LZ Liz. At 1341hrs North OP SSGT Hoa (Flower) said he saw one VC Cadre on the way to a meeting. He was about 1 click north of the OP. At 1508hrs 1-20 Infantry we request 1 gun ship and 1 slick for the Combat Assault at 1530 from SGT Fischer. It was approved and will be here at 1530hrs for Charlie Company. At 1435hrs 1-20 Infantry SSGT Hoa (Flowers) said that there are 3 VC attending a meeting at BS752448. He is observing from the north OP, a reaction Combat Assault was completed. At 2307hrs Radar has sighted 1 to 5 stationary personnel at BS725433 with Recon Platoon informed and at 2300hrs 5 to 7 stationary personnel were sighted at BS738406 and Charlie Company was informed.
Rear Area: Battalion Rear continued their Mission of general support for the battalion and continued their Security Mission for LZ Bronco.
Alpha Company

At 0810hrs Alpha Company 31 element is moving out to search for the mailbag at BS723467. At 1449hrs in the Air lift of Alpha Company 34 element 2 left to BS717467. At 1920hrs Alpha Company we are in our Night Defense Position at BS742456 with multiple ambushes. At 2165hrs the 34 multiple elements while moving to their snake location heard voices in a hootch, the RF went into the hooch and pick-up two male detainees and one female detainee. The RF said the 2 males are VC and will keep until tomorrow. The female was released and later one of the males was also released.
Bravo Company

At 0230hrs Bravo Company the 84 element at the Twin Ville received small arms fire, B 40 rockets from the Kim Giao area at 0050hrs. Also some rounds came from the west of the 54 elements location. At the same time the Command Post received one B 40 rocket and the 54 element engaged with small arms fire. At 0013hrs an estimated 5 VC penetrated the 54 element perimeter and were throwing grenades and Molotov cocktails. At 0215hrs the Bravo Company Command Post received small arms fire from Van Truong and were engaged with 50 cal. fire. The results of the 54 element contact is two VC KIA, and one PF KIA, 5 PF WIA, one US KIA and 3 US WIA, Line # of the US WIA are 8, 39, and 36. Gun ships worked over the Kim Giao at 0140hrs until 0215hrs. A Dust Off was called for the PF negative situation report Bravo Company is still sweeping the area of contact. At 0455hrs Bravo Company we request an urgent Dust Off for 5 PF with multiple frag wounds to the head and chest due to the Bravo Company contact and the 3 US with frag wounds are minor complete at 0520hrs. At 0632hrs the 54 element made a sweep of the area with negative finding. The two VC KIA were dressed in green T shirt with blue shorts, ages 29 and 19. The VC/NVA were carrying NVA pistol belts with 2 magazines of AK 47 ammo, Chi Com grenades and 2 hand frag made of coke cans. The 54 element said the VC came into the perimeter between a US and PF position and found no cuts in the Wire. Bravo Company had a greater analysis of the rounds received last night and say the rounds were 82mm mortars. The US was killed by multiple frag wounds and it is not known if he was wearing a frag jacket. At 0843hrs Bravo Company 38 element is providing road security at BS825398 and at 1536hrs Bravo Company RF ambush was sprung at BS798374 last night resulting in 1 KIA with no weapon. He was a male about 25 years old, wearing all green. At 1818hrs it was reported one additional VC KIA and 1 AK 47 CIA as result of the same action. The VC was about the same age and wore same type of clothing as the other VC. At 1543hrs Bravo Company 76 element Combat Assault PZ at BS783434 at 1545hrs and 1st LZ is at BS751450 at 1551hrs. At 1755hrs Bravo Company the Vietnamese male came to Bravo Company Command Post and says that there is a VC at his hooch at BS817407 who wants to Chieu Hoi, he has a weapon. The Command and Control helicopter made a pick up of a Chieu Hoi at 1825hrs he was 25 dressed in green uniform, has a Carbine and was well fed. Bravo Company was inserted to provide security for the extraction for the Chieu Hoi. Bravo Company reports that PFC MICHAEL JOHN LALLY LISTED AS KIA and Bobby E. Alexander where evac to 91st Evac Hospital FW Face, (L) Flank, (L) Arm and SGT Eugene D. Umbehhauer was evac to 27 Surgical multiple frag wounds back, both hips, both legs. SSGT Michael R. Ryan treated at 23 med for loss of hearing.
Charlie Company

Charlie Company Set up Day Logger and use saturation patrolling of their Area of Operation. At 0607hrs Charlie Company the 74 element is moving to BS760450, the 54 element is moving to BS761392 and the 36 element is moving to BS769373. At 0700hrs Charlie Company the 74 element is in their Day Logger at BS835407. At 0800hrs Charlie Company we found a 155 round in a hedgerow at BS823434 and it was not booby trap. At 0840hrs Charlie Company the 34, 94, and 31 elements area in location at BS820427. At 1036hrs the 34 element bought on VIP program one M-16 magazine loaded but in poor condition. 6 M-79 rounds (New), 1 M-26 hand grenade (New) all items found in hedgerow. the Total Cost Vietnamese $500. At 1135hrs the 56 element found vicinity BS774387 2 dud 105mm rounds, one dud 155mm round with charges removed, also parts removed. At 1240hrs Charlie Company the 34 element requests an EOD Team to blow a 500 pound bomb at BS820417. The EOD Team was taken out at 1400hrs and the bomb was destroyed at 1544hrs. At 1303hrs Charlie Company the 34, 31 and 94 elements have 59 personnel, the 54 element has 34 personnel and the 78 element has 29 personnel. 1-20 Infantry reports the Combat Assault for Charlie Company 1st PZ 1525hrs, last LZ 1612hrs from BS807443 to BS760380. At 1700hrs Charlie Company the Command Post, 94 and 54 element are moving to BS760413 and BS773403. At 1909hrs Charlie Company at BS762398 found one dud 155mm round was blown in place. Set up their Night Defense Position with many snakes. At 1940hrs Charlie Company Command Post and 91 elements is in their Night Defense Position at BS764385 with multiple ambushes closed on their location at 2033hrs.
Delta Company

Delta Company will continue their Security Mission for LZ Liz. At 1910hrs we found 2 dud 81mm ill rounds just inside the wire and 150 meters from the red ball on the south side of access road vicinity BS777443. Two Vietnamese children showed the mine sweep where the duds were at, and 250 #Vietnamese will be paid per round and they were blown in place. At 0935hrs we found a basket near a culvert at BS777444 on the access road. They found some footprints near the culvert, size 7, bare feet; the basket was evacuated to the TOC. The basket can be worn as pack and was found inside the culvert at 1020hrs. At 1955hrs Delta Company the 57 SRRP is at BS776438 and the 36, 76 and 56 elements are in location on the access road. SP4 Richard E. Holt was evac to the 27th Surgical Hospital.
Echo Company

Echo Company headquarters and 4.2 Mortar Platoon is location on LZ Liz, where the 4.2 Platoon providing direct fire support for the Battalion. Echo Company Headquarters has the coordination responsibility for Base Defense. At 0745hrs Recon Platoon the 54 element our Day Logger is at BS726473. At 2215hrs Recon Platoon reports the 53 element is at BS716436 and the 55 element is at BS718429. Recon SRRP is located at BS686416.
