Headquarters and Headquarter Company
March 8, 1971

Forward Area: 1-20 Infantry Headquarters is located at LZ Liz and will continued to work with ARVN units in their Area of Operations. At 0315hrs Warlord 33 is on station to check out grid BS734465 and Box 42. At 0335hrs TMF String 63 A has a stationary target with no metal confirmation and engaged with 8 rounds HE Artillery 105. At 0405hrs Saber 44 is on station to check BS734465 and at 0415 Saber 44 took small arms fire south of the 515 road approximately 100 meters vicinity BS723440, engaged the area with negative results and broke station for Chu Lai at 0420hrs. At 0835hrs 4-4 ARVN vicinity BS612562, element of 4-4 received 30 rounds of 60mm mortar fire from vicinity BS606571. Artillery was fired, element swept the area with negative findings. At 1310hrs Fire Support Base Liz vicinity BS746434, 3 Vietnamese boys came through the wire surrounding the Fire base trash dump to warn the boys off. 1 boy was hit in the back and was killed instantly. The Military Police and Village Officials along with US Civic Action, and District Officials gathering information on the incident at this time. More will follow, Investigating Officer is Major Banks. At 1630hrs S-4 Pelican 21 is on station for re supply. At 1720hrs Sow Motion 19 is breaking station. At 2050hrs TMF B-5, String 63B has 4 to 5 personnel that are moving east to west with negative metal confirmed and at 2110hrs engaged with 8 HE rounds Artillery 105. Legend: 1st Platoon 53, 2nd Platoon 98, 3rd Platoon 26, 4th Platoon 22, CO-66.

Rear Area: Battalion Rear continued their Mission of general support for the battalion and continued their Security Mission for LZ Bronco.

 

Alpha Company
March 8, 1971

At 0425hrs Alpha Company vicinity BS706519 had a mechanical ambush detonate, engaged the area with small arms and M-79, will checked the area at first light with negative findings. At 1143hrs Alpha Company 2nd Platoon vicinity BS675498 found 7 sleeping positions, which consisted of matted down grass estimated 1-2 days old. Also found I cook fire and 2 Vietnamese macheral cans. At 1955hrs Alpha Company Command Post, 3rd and 4th Platoon BS703510, 3rd Platoon ambush BS703502, 1st and 2nd Platoon location BS679510 with 1st Platoon ambush BS737466 and 2nd Platoon ambush at BS746460.

 

Bravo Company
March 8, 1971

Bravo Company continued to set up Patrol Bases and use multiple patrolling in their Area of Operation. At 0750hrs Bravo Company 3rd Platoon ambush closed BS733436. At 1820hrs Bravo Company all patrols have closed. At 1915hrs Bravo Company Command Post in Night Defense Position vicinity BS742438. At 2013hrs Bravo Company reports Command Post, 2nd and 4th Platoon at BS703510, 2nd Platoon at BS737466 and 3rd Platoon at BS746460. At 2025hrs Bravo Company 2nd Platoon Kit Carson Scout got word of VC in a Ville, 2nd Platoon left at 2040hrs to search vicinity BS742433. At 1118hrs Bravo Company 2nd Platoon raid closed from BS742433 with negative results.

 

Charlie Company
March 8, 1971

Charlie Company continued their multiply patrolling in their Area of Operation. At 1140hrs Charlie Company 3rd Platoon is making an unscheduled move by moving to BS696563. At 1200hrs Charlie Company 3rd Platoon has closed vicinity BS699562. At 1540 hrs 2nd Platoon M patrol is moving to BS655558. At 1905hrs Charlie Company RF 425 on patrol vicinity BS663564 (Hill 43) were told by civilians that 6 NVA had been there to coordinate for supplies. They also stated that Charlie Company 2nd Platoon in their contact the previous day 071835hrs March 71 had killed 2 NVA and 1 wounded.

 

Delta Company
March 8, 1971

Delta Company continued their Security Mission for LZ Liz with Road Security At 2101hrs Delta Company, 2nd platoon has a ambush, location is vicinity BS770411.

 

Echo Company
March 8, 1971

Echo Company headquarters and 4.2 Mortar Platoon is location on LZ Liz, where the 4.2 Platoon providing direct fire support for the Battalion. Echo Company Headquarters has the responsibility for Base Defense. Recon Platoon continued their Security Mission for 1-20 Infantry.
