Forward Area: 1-20 Infantry Headquarters is located at LZ Liz and will continued to work with ARVN units in their Area of Operations. At 0320hrs Warlord Black is on station for Nighthawk Box 67 to look for targets for Naval Gunfire, at 0345hrs out box with negative findings. At 0345hrs into Box 64, and at 0405hrs broke box out of Box 64 with negative findings going for fuel. At 0721hrs LZ Liz Access Road has been mine swept. At 0751hrs Primo 3 is on station at this time and Warlord 30 is into APD 281 at this time. At 0910hrs Primo 3 broke station at this time. At 0906hrs LATE SPOT RF 417 vicinity BS922210 during normal daylight operations made contact with unknown size enemy force resulting in 1 RF KIA and 1 RF WIA with enemy unknown, time of contact 071530hrs. At 1115hrs Primo 3 is on station at this time and broke station at 1141hrs. At 1320hrs LZ Liz, while checking wire found 1 M-1 carbine with 7 magazines, approximately 175 rounds of .30 caliber ammo in extremely good shape although bolt is missing from carbine. Was found in proximity to where a Defense Target was fired at 0400hrs continued to search area with negative findings. At 1600hrs Requested Area of Operation from Brigade for Alpha Company 1-20 Infantry BS6940 to BS7440 to BS7450 to BS7150 to BS7153 to BS6953 to start. Duc Pho (MKF), Mo Duc (WW), 4 ARVN (TU) Brigade (LWM) and Ba To (LOS). At 2104hrs LZ Liz had a practice alert at 2104hrs when 1 man popped a red star cluster from the north OP, Alpha company was a 100% at 2106hrs, the 155 100% at 2107hrs. A cease-fire was called at 2107hrs. At 2112hrs alert ended. All was judged a satisfactory. At 2145hrs MACV Duc Pho reported that at 1650hrs vicinity BS920201 and unknown size enemy force of VC ambush 1 civilian bus resulting in 3 civilians KIA and bus completely destroyed. At 2310hrs Warlord Black is on station for Nighthawk Box 64 and at 0013hrs breaking station with negative findings. Legend: 1st Platoon 81, 2nd Platoon 83, 3rd Platoon 59, 4th Platoon 88, CO-50.
Rear Area: Battalion Rear continued their Mission of general support for the battalion and continued their Security Mission for Chu Lai.
Alpha Company

Alpha Company continued their Security Mission for LZ Liz. At 2104hrs Alert, Alpha Company is 100% at 2106hrs ceased fire was called at 2107hrs.
Bravo Company

Bravo Company continued will continue to use Patrol bases and multiple patrolling in their Area of Operation. At 2013hrs Bravo Company locations 1st Platoon is at BS672415 and the Command Post with 2nd Platoon is located at BS664525.
Charlie Company

Charlie Company is in Chu Lai for their Stand Down.
Delta Company
July 8, 1971
Delta Company will continue to use Patrol Bases and multiple patrolling in their Area of Operation. At 0718hrs Delta Company reports 2nd Platoon and Command Post in Patrol Base at BS707427 and 1st Platoon in Patrol Base at BS718424. At 1200hrs Delta Company 2nd Platoon at checkpoint 2 vicinity BS702413. At 1219hrs Delta Company 1st Platoon is at checkpoint 2 vicinity BS715423. At 1708hrs Command Post bought 2 60mm mortar rounds on the VIP program from a Vietnamese child, 10, paid with 4 cans C Rations, and was blown in place vicinity BS674512. At 2025hrs Delta Company Night Defense Position locations 1st Platoon at BS716415, 1st Platoon ambush at BS712417, Command Post and 2nd Platoon at BS718421 with 2nd Platoon at BS715426.
Echo Company

Echo Company headquarters and 4.2 Mortar Platoon is location on LZ Liz, where the 4.2 Platoon providing direct fire support for the Battalion. Echo Company Headquarters has the responsibility for Base Defense. Recon Platoon continued their Security Mission for 1-20 Infantry. At 0620hrs Recon is moving to LZ Liz at this time. At 0651hrs Recon vicinity BS745444, while moving to LIZ took and returned small arms fire from 4 VC/NVA with weapons. The VC/NVA immediately broke contact and evaded to the southwest, the remainder of Recon was sent out to establish a blocking position and assist in the sweep of the area. Results of contact was 1 US WIA with gunshot wound to the stomach and 1 VC KIA, KIA was found hidden in a small tunnel in a hedgerow with 1 US hand frag, extended LAW casing and 2 NVA bush hats. Dust Off 88 and shark 2 and 9 assisted in the Dust Off for coverage, completed at 0732hrs the patient was taken to Chu Lai Thomas Alfred (E-5) At 0714hrs Recon patrol is moving out to BS745444. At 0812hrs Recon is moving back to LZ Liz at this time and closed on Liz at 0856hrs. At 0954hrs Recon is moving out to vicinity BS770410 and close on location at 1044hrs. At 1140hrs Recon closed on LZ Liz at this time. SGT Alfred E. Thomas and SP4 James P. Cahoon ( See July 7, 1971) were attached to 91st Evac Hospital.
