Forward Area: 1-20 Infantry Headquarters is located at LZ Liz and will continued to work with ARVN units in their Area of Operations. At 1430hrs Primo 3 Bravo Company 54 at BS7565 we spotted 2 males evading with 1 going to an abandoned hootch and the other to some bushes. We did not engage but picked up 1 female detainee. Bravo Company 54 is moving into the area. Primo 3 later engaged 2 VC killing both with 1 rucksack and a pistol belt CIA. At 1610hrs Primo 3, 1 LOH crashed with 1 US KIA and 2 US WIA at grid BS752658. The Bravo Company 57 element is in the area for security. A crewmember that was evac says they picked up a bag of documents, which were booby trapped and exploded in the LOH. The 2 WIA were evac to LZ Bronco by Primo 3 (I believe it was CPT JOHN LANIER WADSWORTH LISTED AS KHA). At 1836hrs S-5 report In the TAOR the following PSYOPS were conducted at grid BS7256 27,000 VIP leaflets were dropped, at grid BS7458 27,000 VIP leaflets drop and at BS7458 27,000 leaflets were target at C 19. Brigade conducted the following PSYOPS at BS7558 20 minutes of tape was played again C 19 and at BS7441 20 minutes of tape was played against C 219. Alpha Company and Charlie Company conducted VIP program and spent 2,050 Vietnamese dollars. At 2130hrs North OP Radar sighted 5 personnel, stationary at BS738439. Rear Area: Battalion Rear continued their Mission of general support for the battalion and continued their Security Mission for LZ Bronco.
Alpha Company

At 0925hrs Alpha Company the 56 element has closed and the 34 element is on a patrol en route to tonight Night Defense Position. At 1110hrs Alpha Company we paid 300 piasters for 155 round and 250 piasters for a 81mm round and need more money and paper work. At 1605hrs Alpha Company we purchased 2 sensors M37 and 3A1 and 81mm which we paid 300 piasters each. At 1840hrs Alpha Company we are at out Night Defense Position at grid BS752407.
Bravo Company
July 8, 1970
Bravo Company continued their joint Operations with PF and RF units on their Hamlet Pacification and security of Highway 1. At 0950hrs Delta Company the 18 element request an Urgent Dust Off for 1 PF with gunshot wound both knees from sniper fire at BS769572. The fire came from BS758582 and directed at the Vietnamese, the 18 element did not receive sniper fire. The Vietnamese say there was 5 to 6 VC to their northwest at approximately 350 meters. It was the 182 PF Platoon completed at 1008hrs grid BS769572. At 1140hrs Bravo Company the 58 element received a heavy volume of small arms fire the rounds came from the northeast at approximately 500 meters from BS719639. Every time the 58 tries to move they received a heavy volume of rounds, they have returned fire and engaged with artillery and 81mm mortar fire. At the end of the Artillery Fire Mission at 1220hrs and the area was checked by the 58 element with negative findings. At 1320hrs Bravo Company the 38 element is going to the Bravo Company 18 element location for re supply and spotted 6 VC/NVA with weapons and gave chase. They were dress in light blue uniforms and evaded to the northeast. Pick up one female in area with no ID, age 55 and wearing a blue top and black bottoms. The 6 were dressed in what looked like NVA Uniforms and were sighted at 500 meters and the detainee was turn over to MACV. At 1430hrs Primo 3 and Bravo 54 at BS7565 spotted 2 males evading with 1 going to an abandoned hootch and the other to some bushes. We did not but picked up 1 female detainee. Bravo 54 is moving into the area. Primo 3 later engaged 2 VC killing 1with one rucksack CIA and a pistol belt CIA. The Bravo 54 element confirmed the KIA age 25, Chi Com grenade, rucksack, documents, enemy equipment turned into Military Intelligence. At 1610hrs one LOH crashed with 1 US KIA and 2 WIA at grid BS752658. The Bravo 57 element is in the area for security. Crewmembers of the LOH were evac, says they pick up a bag of documents, which were booby trap and exploded in the LOH. The 2 WIA were evac to Bronco by Primo 3.
Charlie Company

At 0520hrs Charlie Company 18 element had a mechanical ambush detonate and in checking the area one VC female was KIA with negative ID and approximately 30 years old, she was dressed in black pajamas and has no weapon grid BS774477. At 0737hrs Charlie Company the 54 element has returned from the Cordon and Search operation with negative findings. At 1135hrs Charlie Company 2 VC suspects evaded into a wood line with the 14 element checking the area of BS778478. At 1240hrs Charlie Company the 14 element was pursuing 2 Vietnamese who were moving to BS770478 and detained one male 30 years of age in the area. The Kit Carson Scout said it was not his ID and sent to Military Intelligence. At 1930hrs Charlie Company we are in our Night Defense Position at BS784458 with multiply ambush locations.
Delta Company
July 8, 1970
Delta Company continued their Security Mission for LZ Liz. At 1010hrs the 14 element is at BS749439, the 34 element is at BS741436 and the 54 element is at BS749448. At 1045hrs Delta Company the 34 element picked up 2 detainees at BS741436, both females, no ID, and wearing back pajamas age 25-30, (they were released). At 1132hrs Delta Company 34 element engaged 2 VC/NVA who were walking along a trail at BS749418 and wearing Blue and Black, they evaded to the south and dropping pistol belt and some other equipment. The 34 checked the area found one US Canteen, 2 sandbag Rucksacks, with US straps and one pair of Ho Chi Minh slippers. At 1422hrs Delta Company the 14, 34, and 54 elements closed. At 2021hrs Delta Company access road security are in their locations.
Echo Company
July 8, 1970
Echo Company headquarters and 4.2 Mortar Platoon is location on LZ Liz, where the 4.2 Platoon providing direct fire support for the Battalion. At 0515hrs 4.2 Platoon reports Fires Mission 1 for a total expended of 32 Illumination rounds. Echo Company Headquarters has the coordination responsibility for Base Defense. At 0724hrs Recon Platoon all elements are at BS747464. At 0810hrs Recon Platoon the 21 element is at BS730437, the 22 element is at BS719437 and the 23 element is at BS738429. At 2020hrs Recon Platoon reports they are in their preplanned ambushes locations. 1LT Warren T. Waterbury was evac to the 91st Evac Hospital.
