Forward Area: 1-20 Infantry Headquarters is located at LZ Liz and will continued to work with ARVN units in their Area of Operations. At 0735hrs S-4 Hornet 278 is on station for re supply. At 0823hrs Primo 6 is on station for Command and Control Helicopter. At 0825hrs MACV Mo Duc PF 164 vicinity BS722577 ambushed unknown number of VC resulting in 1 VC KIA and 1 VC WIA, US confirmed. At 0836hrs 26 Engineers report Access Road is Open. At 0930hrs Primo 6 has broken station. At 1445hrs S-5 Med Cap is completed, treated 261 Vietnamese civilians. At 1530hrs LZ Liz Access Road vicinity BS774433, vehicle hit mine on Access road. Have 5 personnel injured, 3 dusted off and 2 trapped under vehicle, wrecker is on the way. Vehicle was from 6-11 Artillery and was a 2 ½ ton truck. Dust Off 53 and 54 is on station and 1st Dust Off completed at 1550hrs, 3rd Dust Off completed at 1508hrs. Mine was 35 to 45 pounds of plastic charge (no wires) pressure release maybe timed on south side of Access road. Threw the truck 25 meters over and sending 3 people clear and pinning 2, Crater was 15’ in diameter and 8’ deep, 2 KIA and 3 WIA. Legend: 1st Platoon 54-59, 2nd Platoon 64-99, 3rd Platoon 04-09, 4th Platoon 34-39, CO-21. (I believe the Charlie Battery, 6-11 Artillery KIA CPL BARRY LYNN BRINEGAR, CPL RANDALL LYNN HARRIS AND PFC WATER MEAD IS LISTED AS KIA).
Rear Area: Battalion Rear continued their Mission of general support for the battalion and will continued their Security Mission for LZ Bronco.
Alpha Company

At 0836hrs Alpha Company 1st Platoon closed on OP Wink. At 1050hrs Alpha Company vicinity BS416423 request Urgent Dust Off for 1 US with multiple frag wounds (friendly fire incident) request blood, completed 1105hrs Thomas W. Smith Alpha Company 2nd Platoon on patrol came across a trench approximately 2 meters deep. Engage at approximately 40 meters with M-79’s, while Recon by Fire. 1 round bounced off a tree branch approximately 15 meters thus exploding hitting 1 US personnel. Distance from Grenadier to tree branch was approximately 40 meters, results in multiple frag wounds to head and body. At 1130hrs Alpha Company vicinity BS721429 (VIP) 5 Vietnamese children ages 8-12 brought a 105 round and we paid 3 can’s of C-Rations and destroyed in place. At 1923hrs Alpha Company Command Post 3rd 4th Platoon in their Night Defense Position at BS721449, 2nd Platoon Night Defense Position at BS717439, 3rd Platoon Ambush BS717554 and BS725452, 2nd Platoon ambushes BS708439 and BS721416. At 2250hrs 1st Platoon moving to ambush location picks up 2 detainees, 1 male 17 wearing blue on black, negative ID, Tran Bo from Phoc My, Duc Thach. Also 1 male 36 wearing all green, negative ID, name Dang Net, evaded when element approached and will send to Mo Duc in morning. Bravo Company report SP4 Thomas W. Smith was attached to the 91st Evac Hospital.
Bravo Company

Bravo Company continued their Security Mission for LZ Liz. At 1635hrs Bravo Company 2nd Platoon vicinity BS758576 requests a Dust Off for 1 Vietnamese female with frag wounds to body. Hit Booby trap while in her garden. Negative VC suspects, possibly Brigade Infantry bouncing Betty, completed at 1655hrs.
Charlie Company

At 0757hrs Charlie Company 3rd Platoon ambush has closed vicinity BS705421 and 3rd Platoon ambush has closed vicinity BS721429. At 1623hrs Charlie Company vicinity BS710565, 17 civilians from Duc Thach vicinity BS710565 and their Village Chief said that as a result of a sighting on 4 February 71 that of 20 VC, there were 2 VC KIA by 81mm mortar and artillery 1 WIA. On 5 February a female 20 from the village Duc Thach buried 2 VC KIA and that C-19 was the element and was located approximately 1,000 meters west of OP Pax. At 1647hrs Charlie Company received info that there was some type of machinegun and 1 (82mm) mortar vicinity BS701571 element is checking it out now. At 1230hrs Charlie Company vicinity BS673572 requested a routine Dust Off for 1 US with a cut on index finger, received when hitting a engineer stake, requires stitches, Allen D. Sterchi completed 1655hrs. At 2010hrs Charlie Company 3rd Platoon vicinity BS706543 in contact, 81mm Ill fired on target area. Requested Gun Ships at 2015hrs Artillery Ill fired and Sabra 40 on station at 2020hrs. Element monitoring 1 NVA radio and the interpreter is monitoring it (enemy element was told by radio to evade South). Charlie Company 3rd Platoon found 1 WIA with a AK magazine full, 2 US football and 2 Chi Com grenades and US pistol belt, also 2 KIA unable to find radio KIA 48, male, and female 18 and the WIA had a NVA ID. At 2120hrs Charlie Company 3rd Platoon requested Urgent Dust Off for the WIA/CIA 45 years old had bullet wounds to the side and abdomen, Dust Off was covered by Saber 70 who was refueling and rearming completed at 2020hrs. When Saber 40 returned at 2024hrs the 3rd Platoon at that time was advised that the contact area at 2031hrs now directed to the south of contact area where they enemy was suspected to be seeking escape. At 2055hrs Charlie Company OP Wood stock vicinity BS683583 reports taking AK47 fire from BS683583, engaged with 81mm, 50 cal, and M-60 fire will check the area at first light.
Delta Company

Delta Company is location on LZ Liz and has taken over the Security Mission for LZ Liz and Road Security. At 1945hrs Delta Company at Nui Vong vicinity BS695600, request Dust Off for 1 US with high fever TA Hill, completed at 1910hrs. PFC Dee A. Needum(sp) was attached to 91st Evac Hospital.
Echo Company

Echo Company headquarters and 4.2 Mortar Platoon is location on LZ Liz, where the 4.2 Platoon providing direct fire support for the Battalion. Echo Company Headquarters has the responsibility for Base Defense. Recon Platoon continued their Security Mission for 1-20 Infantry. At 0716hrs Recon is moving out for Nui Vong. At 0920hrs Recon has closed on Nui Vong and at 1350hrs Recon has closed on LZ Liz.
