Forward Area: 1-20 Infantry Headquarters is located at LZ Liz and will continued to work with ARVN units in their Area of Operations. At 0415hrs Radar sighted the following targets at the following times. At 2010hrs 5 to 10 personnel were spotted moving north at grid at grid BS758460 and were engaged with 6 HE of 4.2 Mortar and at 2030hrs 8 to 10 stationary personnel were spotted at grid BS759453 and were engaged with 12 HE of Artillery 105. At 2115hrs 5 to 7 personnel were spotted moving west at grid BS740484 and were engaged with 12 HE of Artillery 155mm and at 0200hrs 2 to 3 stationary personnel were spotted at grid BS745450 with Alpha Company notified. At 0505hrs 7 to 8 personnel were spotted moving west at grid BS789466 and were engaged with 20 HE of Artillery 105mm. At 0508hrs Radar sighted 10 to 12 stationary personnel at grid BS787464 we expended 34 HE of 105mm on the target. At 1150hrs 1-20 Infantry to all units, Police up your Day Loggers and Night Defense Positions and Burn the trash and bury it. The unit Commanding Officer will personally inspect these positions. The old position encountered with in this Area of Operation will also be policed and trash burned and buried. At 1226hrs Helix we are putting in an Air Strike into grid BS799470. At 1516hrs Dolphin 13 we made a snatch of 1 Vietnamese about 15 years of age at BS763415 and at 1645hrs Dolphin 6 we made a snatch of 1 Vietnamese male about 18 years of age. We also detained and released 15 female detainees at grid BS784416.
Rear Area: Battalion Rear continued their Mission of general support for the battalion and continued their Security Mission for LZ Bronco. At 1230hrs Delta Company we have a male VC, age 23, struck by a Delta Company vehicle on Highway 1. The Vietnamese is being taken to the rear by the vehicle and has back injuries. The Delta Company 1SGT will give a full detail report later. He was struck at grid BS804382 when he moved suddenly across the street.
Alpha Company

At 0707hrs Alpha Company all elements have closed on BS734452. At 1015hrs Alpha Company and Charlie Company plan to have ambushes along the following grids Alpha Company BS738455, BS726445, BS728430, BS730422, and BS737408. Charlie Company ambushes along BS738406, BS458380, BS765375, BS770373, BS774373, BS778374, BS787388, and BS789395. At 1810hrs Alpha Company (-) moving to Night Defense Position at BS733439 and by 1958hrs all snakes are in position.
Bravo Company

At 0630hrs Bravo Company reports 45 and 46 elements closed on BS783433 and at 0704hrs Bravo Company the 18 element is moving to BS766455. At 0720hrs Bravo Company 17 has closed on BS783433. At 0915hrs Bravo Company 18 element received small arms fire at grid BS749447. The VC/NVA evaded to the east at grid BS755447 and we are chasing them at this time. At 1015hrs Bravo Company 58 element request that Bravo Company check out hootches at grid BS757459, we intelligence on some M 79 and other small arms in the area. At 1115hrs Bravo Company the 18 element has closed on BS771461. At 1401hrs Bravo Company the 58 element will conduct a Recon in Force to BS784417. At 1545hrs Bravo Company conducts Combat Assault the 44 and 45 element 1st PZ at BS789417 (4 Ships) LZ BS787399 and BS787405 all LZ cold completed at 1600hrs (Bravo Company AJAX 99). At 1700hrs Bravo Company is moving and close on Song Tra Cau will execute phase 4. At 1740hrs Bravo Company the 58, 05, 16, 44 and 45 elements have closed on Highway 1. At 1955hrs Bravo Company reports the 45 and 18 snakes are moving out to BS791423 and BS778457 respectively and the 09 snake is at BS789433. At 2000hrs all snakes are in location the 18 snake is at BS778457 and the 45 snake is at BS791423. At 2115hrs Bravo Company the 44 and 19 elements request three crating charges and a piece of detonate cord to blow a total of 6 bunkers tomorrow, the 1st SGT. was notified they should be on the pad no later then 1000hrs. The Bravo Company 44 element location tomorrow will be BS785415 and Bravo Company 19 element location for tomorrow will be BS775426.
Charlie Company
February 8, 1970
The results were 1 VC/NVA KIA, 1 M14, serial number 1367702, CIA. The 16 element received small arms fire from the enemy, mostly from the rear of the column. The VC/NVA were well spread out and that was the reason for only 1 KIA. The KIA was in the center of the ambush, 15 meters away. The remaining personnel scattered to the southwest. The 16 element found blood trails leading to the southwest into a river and we could not follow it farther and request a tracker dog team. The KIA was about 22 years old, medium build with stocky legs. He was wearing a US green fatigue shirt with a white silk shirt under it. He also had blue silk pants. The following items are what he had in his possession: 1 NVA pack, 1 M14, 1 baseball frag MA11-8, 1 US pistol belt, 1 roll 550 cord, nylon type, one blue shirt (inside the pack). Also 2 green ponchos, 1 diary, letters, newspaper articles, 1 blasting caps, each packed with 1" of time fuse, 1 penlight flashlights, 1 silk camouflaged, shirt and 1 pair of fatigue pants. At 0707hrs Charlie Company one US suffered a possible broken leg when he jumped into a ditch seeking cover on a false alarm, grid BS729444. He was extracted when hot A-rations were brought in at 0820hrs. The 21 element snake captured 1 NVA with NVA uniform and MVA ID age 21, he was in excellent health and no weapon, grid BS736466. He also was on the extraction of hot A’s. At 1015hrs Charlie Company plan to have ambushes along BS738445, BS728430, BS765375, BS770373, BS774373, BS778374, BS787388 and BS789395. At 1305hrs Charlie Company our Day Logger of the Command Post is at BS753387, the 04 element Day Logger is at BS744404 and the 14 element Day logger is at BS772372. At 1705hrs Charlie Company we are moving to our Night Defense Position at BS763376. At 1915hrs Charlie Company we are in our Night Defense Position
Delta Company

Delta Company continued their Security Mission for LZ Liz. At 0705hrs Delta Company has closed on LZ Liz. At 1030hrs Delta Company all elements have closed on LZ Liz. At 1230hrs Delta Company we have a male VC, age 23, struck by a Delta Company vehicle on Highway 1. The Vietnamese is being taken to the rear by the vehicle and has back injuries. At 1401hrs Delta Company the 14 element will conduct a Recon in Force operation to BS779417. At 1800hrs Delta Company 14 element has closed on LZ Liz. At 1950hrs Delta Company snake locations 47 at BS758453, 45 at BS761437, the 16 at BS765439 and 06 at BS772441.
Echo Company
February 8, 1970
Echo Company headquarters and 4.2 Mortar Platoon is location on LZ Liz, where the 4.2 Platoon providing direct fire support for the Battalion. At 0630hrs 4.2 Platoon reports the total ammo expended for last night was 28 HE. Echo Company Headquarters has the coordination responsibility for Base Defense. At 1400hrs Recon Platoon we are moving off LZ Liz on a Recon in Force to grid BS775405. At 1415hrs Recon we have 1 Vietnamese male detainee at grid BS757427. He had no ID and is about 35 years of age. At 1445hrs Recon we have 2 female Vietnamese detainees at grid BS768425. They had no ID and were about 40 to 50 years of age. We also have 2 more detainees, 1 about 20 and the other 35. We have 1 male about 75 years of age with no ID. 1 of the females has a baby. At 1950hrs Recon all snakes are in location Robin Hood is at BS776453, Little John is at BS776411 and Will Scarlet is at BS780414.
