Headquarters and Headquarter Company

Forward Area: 1-20 Infantry Headquarters is located at LZ Liz and will continued to work with ARVN units in their Area of Operations. At 0700hrs MACV at Mo Duc, reported that the District Chief says the Delta Company KIA from the morning of 7 Aug 1970 was Tran Diep, Duc Loun Village Party Secretary, (a most infamous Scourer). At 1730hrs Charlie Company 26 Engineer reports a total of 30 hours were worked clearing 20 acres in the area BS704572, BS705573 to BS705570 to BS706573 and destroying 2 bunkers, all their Equipment is operational. At 2000hrs 1-20 Infantry request Area of Operation #105 by modified to include BS6549 to BS6552 to BS6754 to BS6954 to BS6953 to BS7155530 to BS715490 to BS6549. The request was disapproved by Brigade CPT Robinson at 2055hrs. At 2304hrs Brigade Area of Operation 106 was adjusted to BS687589 to BS680586 to BS700540 to BS733543 to BS726563 and was approved by 1LT Waterbury and now deleted the overlap with Area of Operation 105. At 2305hrs 1-20 Infantry Combat Assault request to Brigade for Charlie Company hooks for 9 August 1970 with the 52 PZ at BS707622 and the 28 personnel. Also the 70 PZ at BS733656 and 21 personnel and the 32 PZ at BS747666 and 23 personnel, with the 72 PZ at BS712584 and 31 personnel, it is to be on 35.00 and the PZ at 1000hrs was canceled.
Rear Area: Battalion Rear continued their Mission of general support for the Battalion and continues their Security Mission for LZ Bronco.
Alpha Company
August 8, 1970
At 0855hrs Alpha Company the 54 element is closed on BS727617 and the 52 element has also closed with the 5 detainees pick up earlier. At 1230hr Alpha Company the 32 element took fire from BS704569. There were Six M-79 rounds and 50 to 70 rounds of automatic fire. We have found five (booby traps), we engaged the area and check it out with negative finding. The fire came from 150 meters to the south. The VC fired 4 rounds of 60 mm in the area and the 32 element engaged the area with M-79 and small arms fire. Alpha Company used multiple patrolling in their Area of Operation today.
Bravo Company

Bravo Company continued their Security Mission for LZ Liz. At 1735hrs Bravo Company we request an Urgent Dust Off for Vietnamese child who hit a booby trap of undermined size or origin at BS778444. The child has multiple frag wounds to the body Dust Off was completed at 1745hrs.
Charlie Company
August 8, 1970
At 0520hrs Charlie Company 18 element had a mechanical ambush detonate and in checking the area one VC female was KIA with negative ID and approximately 30 years old, she was dressed in black pajamas and has no weapon grid BS774477. At 0737hrs Charlie Company the 54 element has returned from the Cordon and Search operation with negative findings. At 1135hrs Charlie Company 2 VC suspects evaded into a wood line with the 14 element checking the area of BS778478. At 1240hrs Charlie Company the 14 element was pursuing 2 Vietnamese who were moving to BS770478 and detained one male 30 years of age in the area. The Kit Carson Scout said it was not his ID and sent to Military Intelligence. At 1930hrs Charlie Company we are in our Night Defense Position at BS784458 with multiply ambush locations.
Delta Company

At 0626hrs Delta Company the 34 element is at their Day ambush at BS747572, the 35 day ambush is at BS763567, the 36 day ambush is at BS756566. With the 70, 42 Daly Logger is at BS755570, the 52 Day Logger is at BS753574 and the 72 element Day Logger at BS759559. At 1710hrs Delta Company the 32 element found 1 new nurses uniform, 1 used uniform (nurses), some old rags and sheets and pillow cases at BS756566. At 1805hrs Delta Company 32 took 4-to 6 rounds of sniper fire at BS752564 with two packs evading to the west and engagement was mad with negative finding. The fire came from 200 meters away. Delta Company is conducting saturation patrolling their Area of Operations today. At 2220hrs Delta Company the 52 element is at BS755577 and the 72, 70, 42 elements is at BS764556.
Echo Company

Echo Company headquarters and 4.2 Mortar Platoon is location on LZ Liz, where the 4.2 Platoon providing direct fire support for the Battalion. At 0315hrs 4.2 Platoon reports 2 Fire Missions for a total expend of 13 HE rounds. Echo Company Headquarters has the coordination responsibility for Base Defense. At 1003hrs Recon Platoon we have closed on LZ Liz and will continued our Security Mission for 1-20 Infantry. 1-20 Infantry we request an Area of Operation extension from the 4 Regiment 2 Division from BS687589 to BS680586 to BS699530 to BS733543 to BS726563 in the Date/Time/Grid 091200hrs to 160900hrs August 70. 1-20 Infantry, the purpose of Combat Operation of Charlie Company and the 26 Engineer the Land Clearing Operation into their Area of Operations. At 1535hrs Brigade Fire Support Mobile Training Teams which are closely geared for Battalion S3, S3 Air, S2, TOC, Division Artillery LNO and additional Company Commanders and Platoon leaders will be on LZ Liz on 17 August 1970. The purpose is for fire support elements, TOE air control parties and Army Aviation of the AMCAL Division.
