Battalion Forward: 1-20 Infantry Headquarters is located at LZ Liz and continued their working with the ARVN units in their Area of Operations.
Battalion Rear: Battalion Rear continued their Mission for providing general support for the Battalion.

Bravo Company

Bravo Company continues their Stand Down at location is at Chu Lai.
Charlie Company
August 8, 1969
At 1720hrs Charlie Company the 21 element is moving to BS834429. At 0930hrs Charlie Company location BS816437, initial contact report: Our 21 element came under automatic weapons fire from unknown size enemy force we have negative causality report at this time. Fire was coming from northeast distance 300 meters calling in Artillery on area at this time. At 1015hrs Charlie Company 21 is moving into area to check out area of contact. At 1020hrs Priority Dust Off for 1 US with M-79 frag wounds in back, received wounds from enemy fire. Name Fowler (Dave SGT) pick up site BS816435 completed at 1040hrs. At 1140hrs the 91 element has linked up with the 21 element they have checked out area with negative results, now moving into the Ville and will check it out. At 1200hrs Charlie Company the 21 and 91 have closed on the Day Logger after negative results in search of area. At 1350hrs Charlie Company 51 element was moving out to BS816433. At 1502hrs the 51 and 91 elements have closed at this time. At 1925hrs Charlie Company we are moving out of Day logger for out Night Defense Position and at 2040hrs we are moving in at BS823424. The snakes for tonight will be 91 at BS833429 and 93 at BS823431.
Delta Company

At 0645hrs Delta Company at BS730445 have come across on Cordon and Search operation, found 1 Chi Com Hand Grenade, 2 US Hand Grenades, 1 pistol belt, 1 green shirt, pouch with documents. Also, spotted 2 VC/NVA fled to south when fired on also Cipher problems again. At 0745hrs Delta Company Location BS739445, spotted one NVA/VC KIA who ran and was shot, age about 39 years old wearing purple pants and white shirt, had black PJ in a bundle. Also have 1 VC suspect who saw the KIA, he threw a weapon in a well before he was shot. The VC suspect is about 18 years old. He is searching the well for the weapon. He was caught while evading in same area as the KIA. Delta Company also found a sandbag full of Detonate Cords, fuse, and a bayonet. At 0805hrs Delta Company also detained 3 VC suspects. We will send in, our little people think they have good information on who could be member of women association, 3 female VCS, ages 20, 25, 45. At 1030hrs Delta Company 91 elements moving toward area to lay sensor devices, a NVA soldier jumped out of hedgerows to give himself up. NVA said that he was in area to collect rice for enemy force located vicinity BS708442 and BS713443. Artillery and diverts of 1000lbs bombs with delay fuse called on grids. Continue with mission of sensor devices after and air strikes.
Echo Company
August 8, 1969
Echo Company headquarters and 4.2 Mortar Platoon is location on LZ Liz, where the 4.2 Platoon providing direct fire support for the Battalion. At 0645hrs reports Schedule fires 12, observed Missions 4, total expend 65 HE 6 WP. Echo Company Headquarters has the responsibility for Base Defense. Recon Platoon now leaving perimeter of LZ Liz. At 0825hrs Recon Platoon we are now at checkpoint one BS770410 and by 0905hrs Recon Platoon we are not at checkpoint 2 at BS780415. At 0955hrs Recon requested Urgent Dust Off for 2 US one with frag wounds in legs, one with frag wounds in stomach, they received these wounds while moving to check point 3 hit a booby trap. (Ellison, hit in legs and Sexton, hit in stomach) Booby Trap was probably a pressure type chi Com grenade and the pick up site is at BS778425 completed at 1010hrs. At 1145hrs Recon Platoon closed on LZ Liz. Report Recon Platoon pick up 2 males VCS 1 male 57 years old, no ID, he was found on other side of the booby trap. Second VCS male 14-16 years old, found in general area of booby trap also Quwin- received minor frag wounds from booby trap was treated in the field. (PFC William B. Ellison was attached to 312th Evac Hospital (11B10). At 1840hrs Recon Platoon moving out to their snake location and at 2025hrs reported they are in their location.
