Forward Area: 1-20 Infantry Headquarters is located at LZ Liz and will continued to work with ARVN units in their Area of Operations. At 0005hrs Radar South OP spotted 12 to 15 personnel, Saber 44 scrambled, and entered area and spotted 5 wild boar, negative further findings. At 0150hrs Saber 44 checked out sighting of 10 to 15 personnel vicinity BS829442, negative findings, broke station at 0225hrs. At 0900hrs 1-20 Infantry LZ Liz Access Road is now open. At 1035hrs MACV Mo Duc requests Urgent Dust Off for 2 US and 2 PF with multiple frag wounds from a mine, vicinity BS769514. Dusty 54 made pick up completed at 1040hrs. At 1330hrs 1-20 Infantry Dolphin 516 is on station for Re supply. At 1345hrs 1-20 Infantry S-5 Med Cap is commencing at this time and at 1545hrs reports Med Cap is completed at this time. At 1700hrs To Brigade at 1445hrs Division Commanding General visited LZ Liz, given Intelligence/Operation briefing, discussed 1 Song Ve (ARVN/US) joint Operations. 2 The possibility of resettlement program, of Vietnamese into the area from BS7157 to BS7358, as possible hindrance to VC movement through the area. 3 Status of OP Wink- indicated Quad .50 would remain, and departed at 1505hrs. At 1925hrs 1-20 Infantry S-3 to Bravo Company, 1 Dig in NOW, 2. Move patrol base north at first light. 3. Do not use same trails/same area as today patrols. 4. Keep eyes open for enemy activity against you. At 1926hrs 1-20 Infantry S-3 To Charlie Company 1. Keep alert for enemy movement from southwest to northeast through your area. Possible enemy activity toward LZ Liz tonight is expected. At 1915hrs 1-20 Infantry 1-20 Infantry Access Road, while burning grass on south side of road, BS762434, observed 1 secondary explosion which is believed to be a can of Petna, with not damage or casualties. At 2150hrs TMF Fire Mission at 2120hrs String 313 Target A have stationary target unknown number with negative metal confirmation and at 2143hrs engaged with 4 HE VT rounds Artillery 155mm. At 2225hrs Saber Black is on station to check out Box 31 B, at BS811485 engaged 1 large hootch with bunker alongside, sampans, clothes and fishing nets in area, had negative findings, has broke station at 2310hrs. Legend: 1st Platoon 39, 2nd Platoon 74, 3rd Platoon 31, 4th Platoon 57, CO-52. 11 Brigade began arriving on 8 April 1971 with advance party heading to LZ Bronco.
Rear Area: Battalion Rear continued their Mission of general support for the battalion and continued their Security Mission for LZ Bronco.
Alpha Company

1-20 Infantry TOC: informed Alpha Company to continue their 360 degree dug in Defense Position with Observation position. 3rd Platoon is at BS626522.
Bravo Company
April 8, 1971
Bravo Company at 0958hrs 3rd Platoon on patrol found 2 one man fighting position 2’ in diameter, 3’ deep vicinity BS636531. At 1130hrs Bravo Company 1st Platoon while on patrol found at vicinity BS633529, found a rock formation containing protective sleeping positions for 5 personnel, and looks like it had been used in the last 48hours. It was approximately 7’ X 7’ 7" was located on a cliff and appeared to be used as an OP. At 1250hrs Bravo Company 1st Platoon engaged one VC at BS634528 wearing with pack and weapon, was moving eastern, engaged with M-79 and M-16 fire believed they hit him but checked area with negative results. At 1302hrs Bravo Company 2nd Platoon while on patrol at BS634538 discovered a bunker and tunnel complex recently destroyed by Artillery. Also 3 10’ X 10’ bunkers were found with three tunnels leading to 3 fighting positions. The fighting positions had sleeping positions on top with overhead cover. They’re also a garbage dump and latrine in the area. CIA was 1NVA rucksack, 1 NVA mess kit, 1NVA pistol belt, 40’ claymore wire, 5 ponchos, and 1 NVA short whip antenna. Kit Carson Scout reported recent activity in the area of estimate 16-20 personnel. At 1507hrs Bravo Company the 2nd Platoon at BS634528 continuing their search found 6 bunkers large enough to hold 4 to 6 personnel, and 1 large hooch with over head cover with large cooling pot with Kitchen with 4 strove made of wood. I NVA helmet, 1NVA canteen, numerous eating utensils, also 50 meters from this position found 2 man OP with cooking utensils. At 1930hrs to Bravo Company from S-3 (1) Dig in NOW (2) move patrol base north, (3) do not use same trails same area as today’s patrol, (4) Keep eyes open for enemy activity against you.
Charlie Company

Charlie Company used multiple patrolling in their Area of Operation today. At 0745hrs Charlie Company 1st Platoon ambush closed on vicinity BS705420. At 0810hrs Charlie Company 1st Platoon patrol is moving out to BS703414. At 0935hrs Charlie Company 3rd Platoon is moving out to BS718385. At 1020hrs Charlie Company 2nd Platoon is moving out to BS690419. At 1300hrs Charlie Company all morning patrols have closed. At 1926hrs to Charlie Company from S-3 keep alert for enemy movement from southwest to northeast through your area. Possible enemy activity toward LZ Liz tonight expected. At 1938hrs Charlie Company location Command Post and 1st Platoon at BS711411, 3rd and 4th Platoon at BS715402, 2nd Platoon at BS687421, 1st Platoon ambush at BS707417, 3rd platoon ambush at BS713391.

Echo Company headquarters and 4.2 Mortar Platoon is location on LZ Liz, where the 4.2 Platoon providing direct fire support for the Battalion. Echo Company Headquarters has the responsibility for Base Defense. Recon Platoon continued their Security Mission for 1-20 Infantry.
