Forward Area: 1-20 Infantry Headquarters is located at LZ Liz and will continued to work with ARVN units in their Area of Operations. At 0415hrs 1-20 Infantry Radar sighted 2 to 3 stationary personnel at BS715449 and engaged them with 10 HE rounds of Artillery 155mm, and at 2005hrs 15 stationary personnel were sighted at BS790370 with negative clearance. At 2010hrs 6 to 8 personnel were sighted moving northeast with negative clearance and at 2100hrs 6 to 8 stationary personnel were sighted at BS768486 with negative clearance and the ARVN informed. At 0001hrs 20 to 30 personnel with 3 to 4 vehicles were sighted at BS770416, BS714406, and BS776401 and engaged with 8 firecracker rounds and 8 HE rounds of Artillery 105mm and 4 firecracker rounds and 4 HE rounds of Artillery 155mm. At 0100 1 to 5 stationary personnel were sighted at BS715424 with negative clearance and Charlie Company informed and at 0230hrs 1 to 3 stationary personnel were sighted at BS747409 and engaged personnel with 18 HE rounds of Artillery 105mm. At 0800hrs 1-20 Infantry the Battalion Commander left LZ Liz and returned at 0845hrs. At 0915hrs 1-20 Infantry the 11 Brigade Commander has arrived at LZ Liz and left at 0945hrs. At 0955hrs 1-20 Infantry the field units have reviewed the Rules of Engagement with their men. At 1028 A Troop 1 Calvary we are now at BS744529 and from here we will move east to the river and south into the 1-20 Infantry (Area of Operation). At 1150hrs the Nighthawk box 61b has been disapproved due to friendly in the area. At 1210hrs A Troop 1-1 Cav OPCON to 1-20 Infantry reports all elements to the south of their location at BS786428. At 1225hrs A Troop reports at 1130hrs we found and blew in place 8" dud at BS804489 and at our present location at BS804489 we found and blew in place a 155 dud and at 1255hrs at BS806484 found a dud 105 and blew it in place. At 1305hrs A Troop our present location is at BS842417 where the Recon and the 16 element has joined up. The 16 and 26 elements are 800 meters to the south of this location. At 1320hrs A Troop we are at BS814467 where the 16 element of A Troop blew a claymore mine, it was not a booby trap. At 1406hrs A Troop we are in our preplanned Night Defense Position at BS813439. At 1545hrs A Troop we request an urgent Dust Off for 1 US who hit an antipersonnel mine of an known type with a pressure type firing device which left a hole 6’ wide and 3’ deep at BS825442. The man Name Smith, Thomas with a severe foot wound, Dust Off completed at 1550hrs. At 1700hrs A Troop the 26 element found and destroyed 2 bunkers large enough for 2 men at BS821428. The 26 element is dropping the X-Ray element off at BS842410 and the 16 element is at BS836424. At 1806hrs A Troop the 16 and 36 elements are on the move to our Night Defense Position at BS813459. The 26 element blew a claymore mine at BS809441, which was not booby trap. At 1845hrs A Troop all element are in their Night Defense Position at BS813459. Recon has snakes at BS855409 and BS837404. Permission was granted for a mad minute at 1900hrs for the M60 and 50 caliber to fired in the north and east directions. At 1740hrs A Troop we spotted a sampan at BS813459, we did not engage. Alpha Company

At 0720hrs Alpha Company ambushes closed at BS778378 and they will use their Night Defense Position as their Day Logger. Alpha Company at 1230hrs report the 61 element was informed by some children that at BS795375 there was 3 VC with weapons and 1 transistor radio. The 61 element will patrol between 1330hrs and 1600hrs to BS788381, BS794378 and BS797373 to check out the intelligence, there was no description of dress or direction of movement gave. At 1735hrs Alpha Company Alpha Company we are in out Night Defense Position at BS778383 and the 63 element is at BS778382. At 2035hrs Alpha Company 41 element is at BS784379, the 43 element is at BS779396, 03 at BS779404, 02 at BS749408, 61 at BS779363, 62 at BS774377, 63 BS788368 and by 2246hrs Alpha Company reports 18 Mechanical Ambush out.
Bravo Company

Bravo Company will conduct Security Mission again for the Rice Harvest also working with the ARVN personnel in their Area of Operation. Charlie Company 45 and 46 elements at BS737437 and at 0757hrs 65 is at BS813406 with 04 at BS750450. At 0810hrs Bravo Company 44 element spotted 3 VC with weapons moving out at BS771439 and the 44 element unable to engage due to distance, they pursued enemy with negative finding. At 1816hrs Bravo Company entire unit is in their semi permanent positions and with the ARVN again will have multiple ambush out with 4 Mechanical Ambush out.
Charlie Company

Charlie Company will use Day Ambushes and multiple patrolling in their Search and Destroy operations in their Area of Operation. At 0712hrs Charlie Company 63 element pick up 3 female detainees, all dressed in black at BS724431, none had ID and range in age 38-45. At 1222hrs Charlie Company the 61 element has closed on BS724438 along with the 64 element. At 1810hrs Charlie Company 64 element closed on BS724438 and the entire company is moving to Night Defense Position at BS733441, with all elements moving out, 04 to BS739457, 03 to BS724437, 05 to BS726440 and 45 at BS734436. At 2040hrs Charlie Company we had two personnel try to get into our Night Defense Position and we engaged them with hand frag and M-79, check area at BS733441with negative finding. The personnel were 10 meters away in a creek bed. At 2115hrs Charlie Company the 65 element while moving to their location stop at the 03 element is located at BS724437, they heard movement 200 meters north northeast from an unknown size enemy force. Charlie Company engaged the area with small arms fire and found 1 NVA KIA with pack. The items found NVA pistol belt, pith helmet, .45Cal.pistol (US) and wearing a bluer uniform and 2 pounds of documents. The grid of the contact is at grid BS724440, the 65 element is closing on their Night Defense Position.
Delta Company

Delta Company continued with their Security Mission for LZ Liz. At 0721hrs Delta Company elements closed on LZ Liz. At 1552hrs Delta Company the 31 element is moving to BS745440 and the 61 element is moving to BS745438. At 1850hrs Delta Company 01 and 61 elements have closed on LZ Liz. At 1945hrs Delta Company 63 element, the 43 element and 03 elements are roving on the Access Road. Delta Company will have 4 Mechanical Ambush out tonight.
Echo Company

Echo Company headquarters and 4.2 Mortar Platoon is location on LZ Liz, where the 4.2 Platoon providing direct fire support for the Battalion. At 4.2 Platoon reports Observed Mission 4 for a total expended of 21 Illumination rounds. Echo Company Headquarters has the responsibility for Base Defense. At 1224hrs Recon Platoon we are in route to rendezvous with A Troop. At 1350hrs Recon Platoon we have now joined up with the 36 element of A Troop, the 3rd Platoon is at BS836424. At 1430hrs Recon Platoon the 63 element will be at BS835409 and the 64 element will be BS837404. At 1941hrs Recon Platoon the 63 snake is at BS835409 and the 64 snake is at BS837404.
