Headquarters and Headquarter Company

Battalion Forward: 1-20 Infantry Headquarters is located at LZ Liz and continued their working with the ARVN units in their Area of Operations. At 0530hrs 1-20 Infantry Command Message "known how to set out trip flares" send out to all units. At 0930hrs 1-20 Infantry at LZ Liz requested a Dust Off for two Vietnam civilians, one boy shot in back one women hit in legs by frag where evac to LZ Bronco. At 1000hrs Helix 39 at BS809445, thinks he may have taken 51caliber fire from sure he took automatic weapons fire will engage. At 0930hrs 1-20 Infantry reference to spot report at 0625hrs Recon Platoon investigation was made and found out that the KIA and WIA were engaged by men of Bravo Company not the PRU, possible by one medic and one commo man.
Battalion Rear: Battalion Rear continued their Mission for providing general support for the Battalion. At 0208 LZ Bronco received 4 rounds of 60mm or 82mm mortar all rounds impacted 1-20 Infantry (Rear Area), with negative casualties. All rounds impacted in fork of road entering 1-20 Infantry.
Alpha Company

Alpha Company continued their Security Mission for LZ Liz. At 0604hrs my 95 element is closing on LZ Liz. At 0935hrs The Alpha Company 95 element will be finish closing on LZ Liz shortly.
Bravo Company
September 7, 1969
At 0625hrs Bravo Company part of my element opened upon by the Recon element and killed one US (Bailey) Bravo Company and wounded 2 men WIA Recon Platoon (Mack) frag in jaw and hand and (Harris) hit in neck. Request Urgent Dust Off completed at 0650hrs Mack was not Dusted Off also (Knutson) frag in neck not dusted off. It was the US who did the shooting it was not the RF or PRU, by one Medic, and one Commo man. At 0710hrs the 63 element we have returned to the perimeter at this time, please inform the Southern Bridge. The 62 and 64 element is manning the northern Bridge site. At 0735hrs Bravo Company 5 says he can not find a crossing site on this side of the river so we will move north of the Red Ball and Recon will move south along the river to the Red Ball. At 0845hrs the 67 element was left behind for security and will now move through the area, which we just swept through. At 0940hrs Bravo Company sending in 1 VCS female, age 20, negative ID. Bravo, Charlie Companies and Recon and Bravo Command Post and 92 are now at the southern Bridge site, but will be moving out shortly to marry up with the rest of the element at there planned Day Logger BS777444. At 1005hrs Bravo Company 67 element is now at the southern bridge site. At 1005hrs Bravo Company will be using saturation and daylight ambushes through out their Area of Operation and their Night Defense Position will be at BS786429. At 2005hrs Bravo Company 82 and 92 element at BS703432 while moving into Night Defense Position received small arms fire from a hootch located at BS783432 resulting in 2 US KHA, returned fire with unknown results. CPL TOLLIE BAILEY, CPL LARRY TRUMAN SANDERS AND 2LT PETER JOHN TROY LISTED AS KHA. I believe that 2LT PETER JOHN TROY had just joined Bravo Company on September 6, 1969.
Charlie Company

At 0710hrs Charlie Company request an Urgent Dust Off for US with multiple frag wounds in the right side, back and leg, urgent and 3 other minor wounds. (Matson) is serious, (Nichols) frag chest, (Shoemaker) frag lower left leg, (Pugia) frag throat Dust Off completed at 0750hrs. They were walking between hedges rows in elephant grass when a trip wire attacked to a bamboo stick was tripped setting off at 105mm Artillery round booby trap. This did occur about 40 meters southwest of the Night Defense Position. Dust Off completed at 0758hrs. The Charlie Company used Day Logger and multiple patrolling in their Area of Operation. At 2050hrs at BS743440, Charlie Company in their Night Defense Position picked up 1 18 year old female who admit to being a VC hamlet guerrilla, and 1 old man believed to be a hamlet guerrilla. The girl had given names of other VC in Villages, 2 VC will be evac to Bronco in AM. Charlie Company reports PFC James A. Matson, PFC Anthony P. Puglia, and PFC Steven K. Nicholls where evac to the 27th Surgical Hospital.
Delta Company

At 1830hrs Delta Company remained in their blocking position and at 1830hrs location of Delta 62 and 2 tracks at BS736534 and Delta Company moved into their Night Defense Position at BS733543.
Echo Company

Echo Company headquarters and 4.2 Mortar Platoon is location on LZ Liz, where the 4.2 Platoon providing direct fire support for the Battalion. At 0635hrs 4.2 Platoon report Schedule Mission 17, Defense Targets 3, with total expend 54 HE rounds. Echo Company Headquarters has the responsibility for Base Defense. Recon Platoon and PRU sweep from BS819402 south to the village to be cordon. At 0625hrs PRU fired on Recon Platoon at 0625hrs at BS819402 resulting in 1 US KIA and 1 US WIA (E) Dust Off completed at 0650hrs 2 men WIA Recon Platoon (Mack) frag in jaw and hand also (Knutson) frag in neck, not Dust Off and (Harris) hit in neck. At 0930hrs 1-20 Infantry reference to spot report at 0625hrs. At 0900hrs Recon Platoon requests Urgent Dust Off for a Vietnamese (26 years old) with her leg Right almost blown off. She has lost much blood believe she was hit by Recon by fire from Bravo Company. At 1125hrs Recon Platoon Urgent Dust Off for Vietnamese VCS with multiple frag wounds all over body was blown up in a hole. Dust Off completed at 1125hrs. At 1130hrs Recon Platoon started at 1030hrs vicinity BS818407 Recon and PRU found a tunnel blew the tunnel and now have 4 VC KIA, also have 1 VC WIA/CIA evac to LZ Bronco at 1125hrs. At 1150hrs Recon Platoon we will be working both sides of river in a westerly direction until reaching the Red Ball. At 1155hrs Recon Platoon have 4 VCS (1 male, 3 females) the male is military age, the women are 2 youngsters and 1 adult, The Hamlet Chief says they are definitely member of a VC families.
