Forward Area: 1-20 Infantry Headquarters is located at LZ Liz and will continued to work with ARVN units in their Area of Operations. At 0019hrs Saber 44 is on station to work NH Box 65, at BS672523 found a home made tripod, going to Box 63 at 0115hrs engaging a large bunker complex at grid BS730410 in artillery hole, broke station at 0136hrs. At 0155hrs Saber 44 is on station in Box 67, broke station at 0235hrs with negative findings. At 0025hrs Alpha Company LT Crompdon inspected bunkers $ 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6 all were satisfactory. At 0110hrs RF intelligence from Quang Ngai G-2 vicinity BS928225 reports VC sniper fired into Ville from BS917228 resulting in 1 RF WIA Dust Off completed from LZ Bronco with negative enemy casualties. At 0815hrs TO Brigade FROM 1-20 Infantry S-3 Reference MTT Training for the Districts: Mo Duc District requests Division Mine and Booby Trap Military Tactical Training from District Advisory Team and a separate date for RF and PF Commanders. Also desires Air-mobile training from Brigade with separate dates for RF/PF leaders. Also CH 47 loading Military Tactical Training for Advisory team and separate for RF/PF leaders. Division Mines and Booby Trap is requested for Advisory Team. At 0830hrs 1-20 Infantry LZ Liz Access Road now cleared. At 0840hrs 26 Engineer a 5 ton truck while traveling on highway 1 from Bronco to Liz at 15 mile per hour vicinity BS778443, had a hand frag thrown behind the vehicle with negative damage or casualties, believed to have come from a hootch near bridge, information passed on to Duc Pho for investigation. At 1140hrs LZ Liz Commo: Medics request priority Dust Off for 1 US with severe cut to arm. Who fell off a hootch while fixing wire lines and PFC Torres punctured arms with nail, Completed at 1215hrs. At 1319hrs 1-20 Infantry Warlord 24 on station for Air Calvary Box 52 and at 1350hrs 1-20 Infantry Dolphin 18 is on station for resupply. At 1525hrs Assistant Division Commander arrived at LZ Liz at this time and at 1601hrs Assistant Division Commander has departed LZ Liz. At 1603hrs Primo 2 broke station at this time. At 1620hrs To Brigade, From Commanding Officer 1-20 Infantry General McDonough and Colonel Hathaway, former Commander of 196 Brigade who was with the General, discussed the followings: 1. a general situation-report briefing. 2. Charlie Company contact, where RPG launcher was captured. 3. Company field strength. 4. General troops attitude. 5 Drug problems extent, control measures-briefed on closing of Access Road, possible raid on Ville at end of Access Road by District National Police Field Force asked what Division could do to support and asked for more education material, films, etc. 6. Troop strength in field evolved into discussion for Headquarters being over strength, seemed upset that Division AG was talking clerks from Battalion to do morning reports. At 1850hrs TO Brigade from the Battalion S-3: 1. Request LOH for special mission at 0700hrs for 07 to go to Nui Vong, short 1 way mission. 2. Also request morning LOH time for 1000hrs to 1100hrs in lieu of 0830hrs to 0930hrs and still desire 1500hrs to 1600hrs afternoon allocation. At 1900hrs TO Nui Vong, LT Karona FROM S-3: no one departs your location for any reason unless they have permission from this location the Commander to explain tomorrow. At 2050hrs 1-20 Infantry Mechanical Ambushes out Bravo 2, Charlie 8, Delta 4 and Recon 1 for a total 15 out. At 2105hrs MACV Mo Duc reports H 17 Calvary and PF moving into Night Defense Position received 1 RPG vicinity BS750570, results were 3 US wounded in action (1 priority, 2 routine), and 1 Vietnamese interpreter with very minor wounds. Dust Off completed at 2027hrs by Bird # 88, time of event was 2005hrs. At 2110hrs Recon snipers are back into Night Defense Position a BS754398. At 2301hrs Saber 46 is on station to work Nighthawk Box 67 and broke station at 2318hrs with negative findings. Legend: 1st Platoon 34, 2nd Platoon 05, 3rd Platoon 89, 4th Platoon 78, CO-07.
Rear Area: Battalion Rear continued their Mission of general support for the battalion and continued their Security Mission for LZ Bronco.
Alpha Company

Alpha Company will continue their Security Mission for LZ Liz. At 0025hrs Alpha Company LT Crompden inspected bunkers 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6 all were satisfactory.
Bravo Company
June 7, 1971
Bravo Company continued to use Patrol Bases and multiple patrolling in there Area of Operation. At 0648hrs Bravo Company all elements in their Patrol Bases, 1st Platoon patrol is moving to BS712483, Command Post with 3rd Platoon at BS712472, 1st and 4th Platoon at BS709485 and 2nd Platoon is at BS699466. At 0845hrs Bravo Company 1st Platoon Patrol has closed on BS709485, 3rd Platoon Patrol is moving out to BS708466 and 2nd Platoon patrol is moving out to BS695460. At 0920hrs Bravo Company 3rd Platoon spotted 2 VC with weapons at grid BS708467, personnel were wearing black and received about 8 to 10 rounds enemy fire, used 2nd Platoon as blocking force and call in Artillery Fire Mission. At 1346hrs Bravo Company 3rd Platoon patrol has closed on BS712472. At 2032hrs Bravo Company all elements in their Night Defense Position with 3rd Platoon at BS714467, 2nd Platoon at BS694466 and 1st Platoon at BS704482. At 2045hrs Bravo Company Command Post element while in Night Defense Position heard a Mechanical Ambush detonate in today’s Patrol Base vicinity BS212472, checking out area with results 1 KIA, a 200 pound tiger. Bravo Company has 2 Mechanical Ambushes out. At 2205hrs Bravo Company Command Post reported 2 secondary explosions at BS698470 from fire started by illumination mission to check out the area.
Charlie Company

Charlie Company continued to use Patrol Bases and multiple patrolling in their Area of Operation. At 0747hrs Charlie Company 2nd Platoon patrol is moving to BS724387, with 2nd Platoon P Patrol is moving out to BS728387. At 0800hrs Charlie Company 1st Platoon patrol is moving to BS716448. At 1123hrs Charlie Company 2nd Platoon bought 1 dismantled booby trap from a Vietnamese male, 11 vicinity BS721386, was a can of Petna, blasting cap, trip wire, and smoke grenade firing device was paid 2 cans C Rations and blown in place. At 1455hrs Charlie Company 2nd Platoon patrol checked out cave at grid BS728388 and found fresh digging. The Cave forks to left and right after 100 meters and extends 20 meters to a dead end. Cave with fresh digging, within the last 2-3 days, negative finding and the Cave was destroyed. At 2006hrs Charlie Company Night Defense Positions 2nd Platoon BS720384, 1st Platoon at BS714446, 3rd Platoon and Command Post at BS720428 with 3rd Platoon ambush at BS724438.
Delta Company

Delta Company continued using Patrol Bases and multiple patrolling in their Area of Operation. At 0648hrs Delta Company Command Post and 2nd Platoon moving to Patrol Base at BS632557. At 0700hrs Charlie Company 1st Platoon plans on sweeping the area of contact. At 1200hrs Delta Company 1st Platoon patrol while sweeping vicinity BS626555 of yesterday’s contact found 4 blood trails, a scarf, hootch building materials, paper with blood on it. Along the bank they found trenches, spider holes, 2 tunnels 3’ X 3’, well use trail, 1 bag of freshly cooked rice, and 1 bag of bandages. At 1255hrs Delta Company vicinity BS635562 requests Priority Dust Off for 2 US with severe cramps, possible heat exhaustion, both members of a tracker team, completed at 1323hrs. At 1900hrs Nui Vong, Lt. Karona from S-3 1-20 Infantry no one departs your location for any reason unless they have permission from this headquarters, your CO will explain tomorrow. At 2015hrs Delta Company 1st and 4th Platoon in Night Defense Position at BS641561, 2nd and Command Post at BS642550 with 4 Mechanical ambush out.
Echo Company

Echo Company headquarters and 4.2 Mortar Platoon is location on LZ Liz, where the 4.2 Platoon providing direct fire support for the Battalion. Echo Company Headquarters has the responsibility for Base Defense. Recon Platoon continued their Security Mission for 1-20 Infantry. At 0610hrs Recon is sending a patrol to area of last night contact vicinity BS768415. At 0646hrs Recon vicinity BS768415 upon sweep found dried blood, bits of clothing and a piece of paper 6" X 8" with handwriting, word VC distinguishable dated 5 June. At 0815hrs Recon at vicinity BS768415 has 1 female detainee, 25 to 30 years old wearing all black and with negative ID found in area of last night contact. At 1837hrs Recon snipers will stay grid BS758404 until 2100hrs, tomorrows Patrol Base BS758404, morning patrol to BS750380, afternoon patrol to BS730390 and tomorrow Night Defense Position at BS740400. At 1957hrs Recon snipers are in location until 2100hrs, Recon is moving to Night Defense Position at BS754398 and closed at 2006hrs. .
