Forward Area: 1-20 Infantry Headquarters is located at LZ Liz and will continued to work with ARVN units in their Area of Operations. At 0009hrs 1-20 LZ Liz is on 100% Alert, due to inadvertent firing of Red Star Custer. North OP 100% at 0010hrs South OP 100% at 0010hrs, Bravo Company 100% 0011hrs, 105 100% at 0010hrs, 155 100% at 0010hrs, reaction force 100% at 0011hrs, cease fire called at 0012hrs and Alert judged satisfactory. At 0019hrs 1-20 Infantry Bunker line Bunker #14 informed TOC it had 1 US WIA Terrell Alpha Company mine sweep team, results of a cook off of a M60 round, Dust requested because of fag wounds at 0034hrs Dust Off completed at 0120hrs Informal investigation by CPT Ross and CPT Berdan, show that Terrell was acting as M-60 gunner during the accident, the gun misfired, the fee tray was opened to discover cause of malfunction, as try was opened the bolt accidentally went forward causing double feed round to ignite fee tray causing frag wounds of the stomach, leg and right arm. At 0627hrs LZ Liz North OP reports all claymores in. At 0730hrs 174 Aviation Dolphin 651 re supply bird is on station. At 0820hrs 1-20 Infantry Inferno 56 (123 Aviation) is in Box 50. At 0900hrs LZ Liz Access Road is mine swept. At 1030hrs ARVN Tanks left Nui Vong. At 1225hrs 1-20 Infantry AMC is on station at 0830hrs 2 lift ships at 0900hrs is on station. Alpha Company 1st PZ 0912hrs and 7th and last LZ at 1051hrs with Bravo Company 5th and first PZ at 0941hrs and 8th and Last LZ at 1111hrs Combat Assault is completed and AMC and Lift ships are released. At 1430hrs Primo 6 (11 Brigade Aviation) is on Station and broke station at 1535hrs. At 1512hrs Inferno 59 is on station and in APP box 62. At 1555hrs 1-20 Infantry 26 Engineers with US tank from Nui Vong going to Snoopy to get water. Halfway there it hit a 155 round booby trap which blew the tracks off, results 5 WIA 4 US with minor wounds, Dust Off 52 made pickup and completed at 1652hrs. WIA personnel Bravo Company reports SSGT Wayne Wilson, SP4 Harold J. Phillips, John Schmidt, SP4 Salvador Sanchiz and SP4 Author G. Talameants. At 1607hrs 1-20 Infantry Inferno 59 broke station. At 2050hrs 1-20 Infantry reports Field Strength Bravo 61, Charlie 67, Delta 53, Echo 22 and HHC 9. At 2100hrs 1-20 Infantry Mechanical Ambushes out: Bravo 2, Charlie 1, Delta 2 and Recon 1 for a total 6 out. At 2116hrs 1-20 Infantry Inferno Black (123 Aviation) is on station working Box 52 and at 2201hrs at Bronco perimeter, at 2208hrs at LZ Liz, at 2218hrs at Snoopy and broke station at 2234hrs. At 2212hrs MACV Mo Duc PF 170 made contact at 071300hrs at grid BS797421 with estimated 2 squads of VC with results 1 PF KIA, 1 PF WIA, 2 VC CIA. At 1355hrs Gun ships expended rockets when they received small arms from the location. Legend: 1st Platoon 59, 2nd Platoon 56, 3rd Platoon 89, 4th Platoon 97 and CO-29.
Rear Area: Battalion Rear continued their Mission of general support for the battalion and continued their Security Mission for Chu Lai.
Alpha Company

Terrell, Alpha Company mine sweep team results of a cook off of M-60 round. Dust Off was requested because of frag wounds at 0034hrs and Dust Off was completed at 0120hrs. At 0710hrs Alpha Company 2nd Platoon moving out to the old Patrol Base at BS743387 to police up area and then moved to LZ Liz to take over the Security Mission for LZ Liz.
Bravo Company

At 0830hrs Bravo Company conducts a Combat Assault from LZ Liz and Alpha Company is back hauled to LZ Liz. At 1155hrs Bravo Company 1st Platoon has closed at Patrol base at BS643495. At 1530hrs Bravo Company 1st Platoon is located at BS643454. At 1530hrs Bravo Company 1st Platoon is located at BS643454. At 1555hrs 26 Engineers US Tank from Nui Vong going to LZ Snoopy to get water halfway there it hit a 155 round booby trap which blew the tracks off and results with 5 WIA, 4 US with minor wounds. Dust Off 52 made pick up completed at 1652hrs SP4 John Schmidt, SP4 Salvador Sanchiz and SP4 Author G Talamanta. At 1835hrs Bravo Company 1st Platoon is moving into their Night Defense Position at BS643495 and closed at 1942hrs.
Charlie Company
August 7, 1971
At 0920hrs Charlie Company 1st Platoon is at Checkpoint 1 and at 1130hrs closed back on Patrol Base. At 1305hrs Charlie Company 2nd Platoon moving out to BS664486. At 1700hrs Charlie Company is heading out to their Night Defense Position at BS643495. Charlie Company field strength is 57 and they have one Mechanical Ambush out tonight.
Delta Company

At 0710hrs Delta Company their LZ is at grid BS649489 time to be at LZ is at 1211hrs and at 0730hrs Delta Company is sending out a clearing team out to clear LZ BS649489. Delta Company 1st Platoon reports at 1058hrs that they are moving to their Patrol base. At 1350hrs Delta Company 1st and 2nd Platoon is at BS645477. At 1650hrs Delta Company 1st and 2nd Platoon moving to Night Defense Position and at 1732hrs closed on BS647480.
Echo Company
August 7, 1971
Echo Company headquarters and 4.2 Mortar Platoon is location on LZ Liz, where the 4.2 Platoon providing direct fire support for the Battalion. Echo Company Headquarters has the responsibility for Base Defense. Recon Platoon continued their Security Mission for 1-20 Infantry. At 0627hrs Recon is on the move to LZ Liz and closing at 0647hrs. At 1910hrs Recon Platoon is moving out to their Night Defense Position and closed at 1942hrs on BS703597 and 50% with ambush at BS703601.
