Forward Area: 1-20 Infantry Headquarters is located at LZ Liz and will continued to work with ARVN units in their Area of Operations. At 0300hrs TMF S-72B sighted Station target with metal confirmation, engaged with 6 VT 105 Artillery and S-76 Stationary Target and engaged with 8 VT rounds 105 Artillery. At 0818hrs AMC Dolphin 16 is on station. At 0815hrs Brigade to 1-20 Infantry send 1 squad to the burned out bridge, to secure Engineers at BS685658, Bravo Company the 84 element will furnish 1 squad for the mission to pick up by the Engineers at Highway 1 on Bravo Company access road. At 0840hrs Battalion Commander and AMC Bird departed LZ Liz Recon Combat Assault begun, 1. PZ Recon 0853hrs 1st LZ at 0910hrs at BS711520 and then 2nd LZ 0910hrs Recon to BS709528 and Combat Assault is completed. At 0908hrs Warlord at BS738590 spotted 1 Vietnamese, who evaded into a tunnel Warlord engaged tunnel and inserted blues, negative results. In the same area were 4 fresh graves and 4 bunkers, broke station at 0945hrs. At 0915hrs 1-20 Infantry Battalion Commander returned to LZ Liz, AMC bird released. At 1545hrs 1-20 infantry Area of Operation extension to B-52 Date/Time/Grid now to 202400hrs October 1970, BS6861 to BS6661 to BS6659 purpose combat operations for Charlie Company approved by CPT Can. At 1825hrs 1-20 Infantry requests Area of Operation extension for B-55, extended south to 48 east-west grid line, Purpose to react to intelligence received today requests extension ASAP to 082400 October 1970. At 2107hrs Area of Operation Extension B-55 approved BPT Can approved to 082400hrs October. Legend: 1st Platoon 54-59, 2nd Platoon 84-89, 3rd Platoon 34-39, 4th Platoon 04-09 and CO 12.
Rear Area: Battalion Rear continued their Mission of general support for the battalion and continued their Security Mission for LZ Bronco. At 0710hrs 1-20 Infantry Resupply locations, Alpha Company 84 at BS742457, 34 at BS755390 and 04, 54 and 12 at BS735415, Delta Company 34 at BS754574, 81, 12 and 04 at BS743558 with 54 at BS752589.

At 0700hrs Alpha Company 55 element closed on BS729426, 84 at BS742457 and the 34 element is at BS755390. It appears to setting up blocking force positions.
Bravo Company

At 0815hrs Brigade: Send one squad to burn out bridge and to secure engineer at BS685658, Bravo 84 element will furnish one squad for the mission to be picked up by the engineers at Highway 1 on Bravo Company Access Road. At 1400hrs Bravo Company 34 and 39 closed detained 2 females at BS699595, BS700386, 45 and 58, no ID. At 1935hrs Command Post requests Urgent Dust Off at BS733652 for 2 US. A box for XM-202 (multiple shot flame gun) ammo place on ground had 1 round explosion which detonated 1 more rounds Dust Off completed at 1958hrs. Bravo Company reports SP4 Charles R. Thompson (1925hrs) a non battle incident with blast injury, Tommy E. Paine to 91 Evac with 2 degree burns to hands and both cafes and PFC Tommy Vaughn with 2nd degree burns to both hands and both cafes (see October 7, 1970).

Delta Company

At 0720hrs Delta Company change in plans for Delta Company 37 replacing 36 BS751582 and BS748575 with 56 moving out to BS750583 and the 86 Patrol was canceled. At 0805hrs Delta Company the 27 element at checkpoint 2 at BS748575 and 58 element at checkpoint 1 at BS745576. Delta Company continued to work their Area of Operation, which was bagging rice and protecting it as we bagged. At 1210hrs Delta Company on 5 October bagged and ready for extraction 7,800 pounds of rice, bagged and ready for extraction 8,000 pounds. There was 1200 pounds left from yesterday that could not be extracted. Found and bagged 6,800 pounds today. The Ville 200 meters to his south at 200 meters vicinity BS746554 has 2,000 pounds of rice, that hasn’t been bagged, good condition, this year harvest, unpolished, in cache under the ground, wrapped in plastic, to be extracted to MACV. At 1545hrs extracted the remaining rice complete total 325-20 pound bags, 35 100pound bags for total of 10,000 pounds MACV. Delta Company XM-202 exploded in bunker, l personnel injured 1 personnel has internal injuries, and WP burns, the other is in a State of shock, with possible internal injuries. He also has WP burns to the legs. A chemical NCO will go first thing in the morning to check out the XM-202. It will not be touched until it has been examined. Line T2405, V8445, extended Launcher with 1 man standing behind it, a box of ammo was placed on the ground, and when it had one round exploded and the 2nd round went off. The (WM-202) is a Multi-shot Portable Flame Launcher. Dust Off Completed 1958. At 1940hrs Delta Company 54 and 34 in location at Night Defense Location at BS756576 with 12 in the Night Defense Position at BS758556.
Echo Company

Echo Company headquarters and 4.2 Mortar Platoon is location on LZ Liz, where the 4.2 Platoon providing direct fire support for the Battalion. Echo Company Headquarters has the coordination responsibility for Base Defense. At 0840hrs Battalion Commander and AMC Bird departed LZ Liz Recon Combat Assault begun 1 PZ Recon 0853hrs with 1 LZ at 0910hrs at BS711520, 2 LZ 0910hrs Recon to BS709528 Combat Assault is completed. At 1548hrs Recon Platoon at BS711525 and BS720521 was reacting to intelligence on a tunnel complex they found caved in tunnels and no signs of recent use. At 1710hrs Recon Platoon reports Robin Hood location at BS707526 and Little John is located at BS705533. At 1925hrs Recon Platoon reports in location at BS714524.
