Headquarters and Headquarter Company
October 6, 1968

Forward Area: 1-20 Infantry Headquarters is located at LZ Dottie and will continued to work with ARVN units their Area of Operations. At 0945hrs at BS496784 OP-1 notified the (1-20 Infantry TOC) that a PF had a patrol outside their Village going west, they ran into an ambush. They believe approximately 60 VC in Ambush. Pf had 1 KHA with 1 KHA and claim 1 VC KIA. Also PF reported VC had Automatic Weapons along with their individual weapons, broke contact at 1040hrs unable to tell in which direction VC took when evading. At 1214hrs Swift Boats request clearance on grid BS775860 to shoot 81 mortars. The Swift boats received automatic weapons fire from this location, clearance given by 1-20 Infantry. At 1400hrs 1-20 Infantry request Aerial Scouts on 7 October for 2 missions 1 from 0815hrs-1015hrs and other from 1300hrs-1500hrs to conduct Aerial Recon and screen during Operation Logan Field, report to LZ Dottie contact 1-20 Infantry. At 1755hrs 1-20 Infantry TOC LRRP Jack Daniel’s was extracted. At 1815hrs Major Mayberry approved the moving of the 11 Brigade PPS5 from LZ Charlie Brown to LZ Uptight for the duration of Operation Logan Field, upon completion of operation it will move to OP1. At 0905hrs 1-20 Infantry TOC reports 1-1 Calvary arrived at LZ Dottie at 1905hrs and left 1 tank at Chu Lai.

Rear Area: Battalion Rear continued their Mission of general support for the battalion and continued their Security Mission for LZ Bronco. SP4 James R. Robertson was evac to 312th Evac Hospital with gunshot wound.

 

Alpha Company
October 6, 1968

Task Forces Alpha consisting of Alpha Company and one platoon of E Troop 1st Cav. Worked their way into to position to be able to crossing the Line of Departure a 0700hrs tomorrow. Alpha Company is at BS585843 and at BS582842 received sniper fire results 1 US WHA, Dust Off called engaged with artillery negative assessment Dust Off completed at 1020hrs. At 1020hrs Alpha Company at LZ Dottie and at 1250hrs Alpha Company departed LZ Dottie and moved to BS655880 and at BS681875 engaged an estimated VC squad, received heavy small arms fire with results 1 WHA Dust Off completed at 1515hrs. Request Sharks ASAP at BS681875 contact was broken at 1525hrs with negative results and at this time Alpha Company and Recon is at BS682870. Alpha Company reports PFC Damon A. Bazzoghin gunshot wound and SP4 Gary Wayne Bartow and PFC David L. Stokes frag wound. Also SP4 Terry Lee Hess was evac to 312 Evac Hospital.

 

Bravo Company
October 6, 1968

At 0820hrs Bravo Company departing LZ Dottie and at 1125hrs Bravo Company at BS636871, found 1 105 rounds and blew in place. At 1230hrs Bravo Company is located at BS668874 and by 1505hrs Bravo Company is now at BS678879. At 1840hrs Bravo Company moved into their Night Defense Position at BS688883. At 1905hrs 1/1 Calvary arrived at LZ Dottie to work with Bravo Company in Task Force Bravo. Bravo Company found 1 round of unknown size in their Night Defense Position and blew it in place. The 1/1 Calvary left one tank at Chu Lai for repair.

 

Charlie Company
October 6, 1968

1-20 Infantry Operation LOGAN FIELD was to start tomorrow and units where putting themselves into position for the Operation. The 2nd ARVN Division attacked on the 6 of October 1968, to occupy blocking position along the Diem Diem River. From LZ Buff and LZ Dottie Delta Company with Heavy Mortar Platoon, Battalion Command Post and Delta 6-11 Artillery into LZ Uptight at BS725856 by UH and CH47 Charlie Company and Recon made a Combat Assault into LZ Lee at BS723816. Task Force consisting of Alpha and one platoon of E Troop 1st Calvary and Task Force B consisting of Bravo Company and 1 where preparing to attack into their Zone in the morning.

 

Delta Company
October 6, 1968

1st Battalion 20th Infantry conducted movement from LZ Buff (BS539825) and LZ Dottie (BS633855) with Delta Company, Heavy Mortar Platoon, Battalion Command Post and D-6-11 Artillery into LZ Uptight (BS725856) by UH 1 and CH 47 choppers. Delta Company was also given the mission of Battalion Reserve OPERATION LOGAN FIELD. The 2nd ARVN Division attacked on the October 6, to occupy blocking position along the Diem Diem River.

 

Echo Company
October 6, 1968

Echo Company is located at LZ Dottie where Battalion Forward is and coordinates with the Battalion Rear Elements and Base Defense elements on LZ Dottie. The 4.2 Platoon is located on LZ Dottie where they continue to provide direct fire support for the (1-20 Infantry Battalion). At 1359hrs Recon Platoon reports their location at LZ Buff with Charlie Company which will make their Combat Assault from LZ Buff.
