Headquarters and Headquarter Company
November 6, 1968

Forward Area: 1-20 Infantry Headquarters is located at LZ Cork and will continued to work with ARVN units their Area of Operations in OPERATION VERNON LAKE II. At 0750hrs Aerial Scouts at BS448758 engaged 1 VC evading results 1 VC KIA. At 0900hrs 174 Aviation at BS463359 slick received small arms fire, negative hits altitude unknown continued to fly. At 1040hrs Aerial Scouts at BS456704 received small arms fire negative hits. At 1015hrs Aerial Scouts at BS391589 observed 5-10 hut well camouflaged, a bunker underneath, a trench running on ridgeline. At 1150hrs Aerial Scouts at BS395589 engaged 1 automatic weapon position with negative assessment.

Rear Area: Battalion Rear continued their Mission of general support for the battalion and continued their Security Mission for LZ Bronco. At 1300hrs S-2 39 Engineer reports Charlie Company at BS608904 at 1100hrs reports Work Party received 40 to 50 rounds sniper fire with negative casualties and return fire with 21 HE Artillery and 100 rounds of M-14 rounds. At 1515hrs 26 Engineer at BS777445 spotted possible dead ARVN 3 clicks south of LZ Max in middle of road. Informed 3-1 Infantry they are checking it out. Body recovered by PF in a Lambretta heading north. At 1715hrs 11 Infantry Brigade requested Aerial Scouts to work for 1-20 Infantry from 0730hrs to 0930hrs also from 1300hrs to 1500hrs.

 

Alpha Company
November 6, 1968

At 0755hrs Alpha Company conducted a Combat Assault 1st PZ at BS433641 and LZ at BS463578 completed at 0825hrs, and conducted sweeps southwest. At 1228hrs Alpha Company is located at BS473576 and by 1742hrs Alpha Company is establishing their Night Defense Position at BS468565. PSGT Richard E. Byrd injured with sprained right ankle sent to 27 Surgical Hospital.

 

Bravo Company
November 6, 1968

At 0845hrs Bravo Company conducted a Combat Assault from PZ BS407620 to LZ located at BS473578, and at BS465585 found a hut with 500 pounds or rice and destroyed because of location they then continued sweep to the south from the Landing zone completed at 0920hrs. At 1140hrs Bravo Company at BS458589 found 3 cam phage huts 10’ X 10’ also 700 pounds of destroyed. At 1742hrs Bravo Company has moved into their Night Defense Position at BS463582.

 

Charlie Company
November 6, 1968

Charlie Company continued to conduct Combat Sweeps in their Area of Operation. At 1032hrs conducts a Combat Assault 1st PZ at BS407620 to LZ BS465588, completed at 1047hrs completed. At 1228hrs Charlie Company reports their location at BS465589. Charlie Company will sweep to north and west as the conduct Search and Destroy, operations. At 1330hrs Charlie Company located at BS459583 and BS461579 observed 2 camouflaged huts is moving element into the area. At 1744hrs Charlie Company has established their Night Defense Position at BS465590 have a have a Listening Post at BS463588.

 

Delta Company
November 6, 1968

Delta Company continued their Security Mission for LZ Cork. At 2200hrs Delta Company reports the 4.2 Mortar Platoon at BS443616 observed lights, engaged with 4.2 with negative assessment.

 

Echo Company
November 6, 1968

Echo Company is located at LZ Cork where Battalion Forward is and coordinates with the Battalion Rear Elements and Base Defense elements on LZ Cork. The 4.2 Platoon is located on LZ Cork where they continue to provide direct fire support for the (1-20 Infantry Battalion). At 1235hrs Recon Platoon reports their location at BS435645. At 1742hrs Recon Platoon reports their location at LZ Cork.
