Headquarters and Headquarter Company
June 6, 1971

Forward Area: 1-20 Infantry Headquarters is located at LZ Liz and will continued to work with ARVN units in their Area of Operations. At 0010hrs IOS at Nui Vong vicinity BS685582 at 2320hrs picked up 30-35 personnel with packs and weapons, fired on by Artillery 105mm and 4.2" Mortar. Gun ship Saber 48 on station to check out the area, took fire, found 2 packs and NVA helmet and 2 KIA confirmed by Saber 48, broke station at 0035hrs. At 0240hrs MACV Duc Pho at 0200hrs VC fired B40 inside OP vicinity BS794416 with negative casualties PF 170. At 0845hrs MACV Mo Duc at 0530hrs vicinity BS753582 RF 168 while set up in an ambush location saw 20 VC going to a meeting in a hamlet at 1st Light, left meeting in small groups, results 3 female VC CIA (negative weapons or documents). At 1225hrs MACV Mo Duc, engaged an unknown size enemy force resulting I VC KIA with 4 VC CIA vicinity grid BS749556. Also CIA was 1 AK 47 and assorted hand grenades (US and Chi Com), also 6 packs with clothing and rice and some documents. 1 CIA was 19 years old, 3 CIA were 20 to 30 years old and 1 is security cadre for Duc Thaan. At 1403hrs 1-20 Infantry Dolphin 516 is on station for resupply and at 1403hrs Warlord 30 is on station for Air Calvary Box 53. At 1445hrs H Troop 17 Calvary 1st Platoon while in route to Nui Vong received 4 rounds M-79 and 20 rounds small arms fire vicinity BS720600 at proximity 250 meters to the south, negative casualties or damage. They did not return fire due to proximity of civilians. At 1458hrs 1-20 Infantry Warlord 1 broke station Box 53 with negative findings. At 1530hrs Charlie Company reports Dolphin 3 (resupply) bird spotted cave near Charlie Company grid BS728388. At 1535hrs 1-20 Infantry Primo 2 is on station is at this time. At 1838hrs MACV Duc Pho at 1045hrs VC ambush the District Chief vehicle with AK 47, fire at grid BS915245 and wounded district S-1. The vehicle took 5 hits damaging the engine and radiator. At 2048hrs 1-20 Infantry Mechanical Ambushes out: Bravo 6, Charlie 6, Delta 3 and Recon 1 for a total of 16 out. At 2355hrs Alpha Company LT Craft checked bunkers 7, 8, 9, 15 and 16 everything satisfactory. Legend: 1st Platoon 34, 2nd Platoon 05, 3rd Platoon 89, 4th Platoon 78, CO-07.

Rear Area: Battalion Rear continued their Mission of general support for the battalion and continued their Security Mission for LZ Bronco.

 

Alpha Company
June 6, 1971

Alpha Company continued their Security Mission for LZ Liz and Access Road. At 2355hrs Alpha Company LT Craft checked bunkers 7, 8, 9, 15 and 16 everything satisfactory.

 

Bravo Company
June 6, 1971

Bravo Company continued to use Patrol Bases and multiple patrolling in there Area of Operation. At 0715hrs Bravo Company 1st Platoon will use Night Defense Position as Patrol Base at vicinity BS708480. At 0750hrs Bravo Company 3rd Platoon Patrol is moving to BS714475. At 0753hrs Bravo Company 2nd Platoon is moving to BS695466. At 0955hrs Bravo Company 2nd Platoon Patrol has closed on BS698469. At 1737hrs Bravo Company 1st and 4th Platoons is moving out to Night Defense Position at BS709485. At 2015hrs Bravo Company all elements in their Night Defense Positions Command Post with 3rd Platoon is at BS712472, 1st and 4th Platoon is at BS709485 and 2nd Platoon is at BS699466.

 

Charlie Company
June 6, 1971

Charlie Company continued to use Patrol Bases and multiple patrolling in their Area of Operation. At 1348hrs Charlie Company 3rd Platoon patrol has closed on BS712413 and 2nd Platoon patrol has closed on BS722386. At 1530hrs Charlie Company message from Dolphin 3 (resupply bird) spotted a cave at BS728388 with something in it. Charlie Company 2nd Platoon is sending a patrol to check it out, cave about 4 ½ to 5’ high. Checking cave out goes about 100 meters long and forks to the left and right and continues. Due to darkness inside cave the patrol ended search after 100 meters search finding 1 plastic rain cap blue in color and will check it out further after receiving a tunnel Dog. At 1944hrs Charlie Company Night Defense Position locations Command Post and 3rd Platoon moving to Night Defense Position at BS713432, 1st Platoon at BS710446 and 2nd Platoon at BS727386 with 6 Mechanical Ambush out.

 

Delta Company
June 6, 1971

Delta Company continued using Patrol Bases and multiple patrolling in their Area of Operation. At 0748hrs Delta Company Command Post and 2nd Platoon moving to Patrol Base and the 1st and 4th Platoons using the Night Defense Position as their Patrol Base. At 0803hrs Delta Company Command Post and 2nd Platoon closed on Patrol base at BS638552. At 1904hrs Delta Company 1st Platoon while on patrol found 1 Booby trap at grid BS639563. The booby trap was 1 can of Petna and with trip wire, on a trail approximately 15-20 days old was blown in place. At 0907hrs Command Post spotted 40 VC/NVA with packs and weapons vicinity BS626555 wearing black PJ and blue uniforms moving northwest along base of mountains, request guns. At 1918hrs Shark 6 on station, also requested a LOH, at 1932hrs Primo 2 on station, sharks engaged area at BS628559 and BS629563. Delta Company will sweep area at 1st Light. At 2031hrs Delta Company Night Defense Position in location 2nd Platoon, Command Post, 1st and 4th Platoon at BS638561 with 3 Mechanical Ambush out.

 

Echo Company
June 6, 1971

Echo Company headquarters and 4.2 Mortar Platoon is location on LZ Liz, where the 4.2 Mortar Platoon providing direct fire support for the Battalion. Echo Company Headquarters has the responsibility for Base Defense. Recon Platoon continued their Security Mission for 1-20 Infantry. At 1820hrs Recon is moving out from LZ Liz vicinity BS768415. At 1915hrs Recon Night Defense Position is at BS768414. At 1955hrs Recon engaged 3 VC/NVA with weapons, engaged with small arms fire, called for Illumination, at 2006hrs swept area and found 1 pair bloody Ho Chi Minh sandals, at 2028hrs found blood on floor. Lost blood-trail due to thickness of vegetation ended swept at 2050hrs the requested tracker dog and will check out at first light.
