Forward Area: 1-20 Infantry Headquarters is located at LZ Liz and will continued to work with ARVN units in their Area of Operations. At 0830hrs 1-20 Infantry all units have reviewed the Rules of Engagement. At 1012hrs Brigade we requested clearance for an APD (anti-personnel detection) sniffer from 8 January 1970 Unknown time to unknown time and date at Grids BS660395, BS720425, BS720395 and BS660365. At 1105hrs Helix (FAC) we are putting in an Air Strike on grid BS758380, with Bomb Damage Assessment we opened up a tunnel and had 3 secondary fires. At 1230hrs Helix (FAC) 36 we spotted 5 personnel at grid BS793505, they where wearing black shorts. At 1455hrs Helix (FAC) 38 we spotted 4 to 5 personnel on "Uncle Ben’s Island" and south of this they spotted 6 to 8 personnel. We are going to check out the area when a cloud clears the area. At 1810hrs 1-20 to MACV our friendly location were passed on to Mo Duc and Duc Pho also that Alpha Company will be operating in the grids BS7752, BS7851 and BS7751 tonight and tomorrow.
Rear Area: Battalion Rear continued their Mission of general support for the battalion and continued their Security Mission for LZ Bronco.
Alpha Company
January 6, 1970
At 0905hrs Alpha Company 04 element is moving out on patrol and the 44 and 24 elements have closed on BS793505. At 1110hrs Alpha Company the LZ for the 04 element is at BS781510. At 1145hrs 04 element found and blew 155 round that was booby trap at grid BS783510, it was a bamboo pressure type with batteries. At 1420hrs Alpha Company 04 closed on grid BS793505, they had blew two bunkers and found newly cut wood and digging but no personnel where found in the area. At 1600hrs Alpha Company the 25 element has closed on the Command Post at BS793505 and at 1640hrs we are moving to our Night Defense Position. At 1635hrs Alpha Company we have some people located at grid BS768505. While we were moving to our Night Defense Position we spotted 30 to 40 Vietnamese coming out of the wood line and moving across a rice paddy. The National Police say these people look like VC. At 1945hrs Alpha Company we are now in our Night Defense Position at BS775517 and with 04 at BS772523 and the 44-46 at BS772512.
Bravo Company
January 6, 1970
At 0600hrs Bravo Company 25 closed on BS787424, at 0645hrs Bravo 46 closed on BS783433. At 0705hrs Bravo Company Request Urgent Dust Off, has one male Vietnamese civilian with frag wounds in both legs and one Vietnamese female civilian with severe frag wounds of the abdomen. They received these wounds from Artillery grid BS783433. At 0727hrs Bravo Company the 26 snake closed on the South Bridge and the 28 element is moving to BS799381, and the Gorilla element is at checkpoint 1 at BS788447. At 0807hrs Bravo Company the Gorilla element is at (Checkpoint 2) at grid BS799442, we found two newly built bunkers made of bamboo, mud and rocks, the bunkers were 5’ X 6’ x 4’, there was also some fresh digging in the area. The Gorilla Element blew the bunker and will check the area. At 0850hrs Bravo Company at Date/Time 052400 Jan 1970 we had what looked like a 4.2 round which fell on a hootch at grid BS788434. it killed 2 Vietnamese civilians and seriously injured the Vietnamese civilians who were Dust Off at 0720hrs and the 46 element reports little damage to the Ville. At 0926hrs Bravo Company request Priority Dust Off for 1 Vietnamese child with frag wounds of both lower legs, the wounds were caused from unknown source, completed at 1015hrs. At 1030hrs Bravo Company the Gorilla element has closed on BS783433. At 1520hrs Bravo Company the 47 element closed on Command Post at grid BS783433. At 1900hrs Bravo Company Urgent Dust Off at grid BS789440 three PF received frag wounds to the legs and body from a booby trap. The 04 element wile moving to their snake location hit the gate type booby trap (the PF were with the 04 element) and the 1 US was injured in the same incident was PFC Gary S. Anderson, Dust Off completed at 1915hrs. At 1940hrs Bravo Company the 48 element is at 778425, 06 element is at 768455 and 25 element is at 788423. At Bravo Company the 26 element is at 793409. At 2143hrs the 04 element at the Twin Ville (776446) reports taking 5 to 10 sniper rounds from the southeast, we had negative casualties and contact is now broken. Sgt. Leo A. Stagg was also treated on released on January 7, for Multiple Frag wound to left side of head. PFC Timothy S. Waters was evac to 91st Evac Hospital.
Charlie Company

At 0750hrs Charlie Company the 44 elements which is on LZ Dragon reports no work for today. At 1115hrs Charlie Company we are moving to our Day Logger at BS803366. The 44 element has field strength of 15 and Charlie Company totals field strength 103. At 1235hrs Charlie Company our present location is BS788378. At 1410hrs Charlie Company our Night Defense Position is at BS802368 and the Day Logger is at BS803366. At 1752hrs Charlie Company we are moving to our Night Defense Position at BS802368 and closed at 1812hrs.
Delta Company

Delta Company continued their Security Mission for LZ Liz. At 0630hrs Delta Company our 26 element has closed on BS787424. At 0950hrs Delta Company all snakes have closed on LZ Liz. At 1120hrs Delta Company the 25 element is at BS745416 and is checking out the tunnels. At 1445hrs Delta Company 25 closed on LZ Liz. At 1950hrs Delta Company reports the 47 snake is at BS741428, 26 at BS768440, 06 at BS772441 and the 46 snake is at BS763437.
Echo Company

Echo Company headquarters and 4.2 Mortar Platoon is location on LZ Liz, where the 4.2 Platoon providing direct fire support for the Battalion. At 0630hrs 4.2 Platoon reports Supporting Platoon 4, Observed Mission 3 for a total expended 38 HE and 18 Illumination rounds. Echo Company Headquarters has the coordination responsibility for Base Defense. Recon Platoon reports our present location is BS712416. At 1211hrs Recon our Night Defense Position for tonight is at BS718415. At 1445hrs 1-20 Infantry Recon you are to move your Night Defense Position to vicinity of BS711403. Report your exact location as soon as possible also forward your plans for tomorrow. At 1530hrs Recon our present location is BS716414, Plans for tonight and tomorrow. Tonight Night Defense Position is at BS715414 and tomorrow Recon in Force to BS723404. At 1600hrs 1-20 Infantry to Recon tomorrow search grid square BS7039, BS7038 and BS7138 and tomorrow night ambush is vicinity of BS718385. At 1705hrs Recon we are in our Night Defense Position at BS715405.
