Headquarters and Headquarter Company
February 6, 1968

Forward Area: 1-20 Infantry Headquarters is located at LZ Thunder and will continued to work with ARVN units in their Area of Operations. At 0650hrs Based on last nights activities individuals apparently exposing themselves with little attempt to enter the perimeter of fire at it, and in view of the 4 civilians that were accidentally killed southeast of the perimeter. It is believe the VC were attempting to have us fire into Duc Pho possibly killing more civilians, thereby causing discontent between the civilian of Duc Pho. At 1345hrs 1-20 Infantry message from Major Davis, 2 Platoon Bravo Company will secure the new bridge near northern Area of Operation until PF take over and will inform Bridge when 2nd Platoon is in position at bridge site. At 1415hrs 1-20 Infantry E Troop at 1356hrs, on bridge 95 2 member of E Troop injured when a 50 caliber round exploded and 1 had head wound and the other stomach wound, Dust Off Completed. At 1504hrs 1-20 1504hrs the Bridge North of Duc Pho which 1-20 Infantry is responsible for is now secure by Bravo Company. At 1830hrs 1-20 Infantry reports Swift boats report seeing 40 boats leaving Sa Huynh.

Rear Area: Battalion Rear continued their Mission of general support for the battalion and continued their Security Mission for LZ Bronco. At 0410hrs Bunker 14 spotted 2 VC moving near the wire and fired on them with negative results. At 0605hrs the Bridge to Carentan, saw 2 personnel run from sanitary fill southeast across road, lost sight as soon as they crossed road. At 2106hrs Sector H Bunker 02 received 4 rounds of sniper fire from BS827376. At 2207hrs Sharks and Flare ships working with Sector H in attempt to get sniper north of the road to Carentan. At 2326hrs had 2 trip flares set off in front of Bunkers 11 & 12 with negative sightings when illuminated.

 

Alpha Company
February 6, 1968

At 0706hrs Alpha Company at BS867316 is checking the ambush site and policing up, found 1 pistol belt, 1 US ammo pouch, 1 VC ammo pouch, 2 W/P grenades, 1 US type frag grenade, 1 razor, 1 pack and some bandages. At 0920hrs Alpha Company at BS868363, detained 11 Monks with the Military Intelligence to be sent back to the National Police for further questioning. At 1030hrs Alpha Company reports location at BS869459. At 1430hrs Alpha Company locations is at BS867352, 2nd Platoon at BS862357, and 3rd Platoon at BS860350. At 1800hrs Alpha Company located a fresh grave with a body at BS867352 with multiple shrapnel wounds believed to have been killed last night.

 

Bravo Company
February 6, 1968

At 1035hrs Bravo Company 1st Platoon is at BS791385, 2nd Platoon at BS782424 and at 1200hrs Bravo Company 1st Platoon is at BS786394, 2nd Platoon is at BS783404. At 1345hrs Bravo Company will secure the Bridge site near Northern Area of Operation until PF take over the, 2nd Platoon has it total secured at 1404hrs. At 1510hrs 1st Platoon is located at BS785395, 2nd Platoon at BS781405. At 1241hrs Bravo Company reports their locations 1st Platoon at BS864357, 2nd Platoon at BS783404 and 3rd Platoon and Charlie 1-20 at BS866358. At 1345hrs 1-20 Infantry message from Major Davis, 2 Platoon Bravo Company will secure the new bridge near northern Area of Operation until PF take over and closed on Bridge at 1504hrs. At 1510hrs Bravo Company locations 1st Platoon at BS785395, 2nd Platoon at BS781405 and 3rd Platoon and C 1-20 at BS869352. At 1835hrs Bravo Company at ambush site at BS802395. At 2358hrs Bravo Company can not make contact with it 1st Platoon ambush element, called MACV to see if they had any activity in that area.

 

Charlie Company
February 6, 1968

Charlie Company continued their Security Mission for LZ Uptight. At 1015hrs Charlie Company vicinity BS733858 detained 2 VCS and at 1130hrs vicinity BS745855 detained 3 more VCS with no ID.

 

Delta Company
February 6, 1968

Delta Company continued their Security Mission for LZ Thunder and a couple of Bridges. At 0730hrs vicinity BS883326 had 1 US KHA by command detonated mine and now unit is under sniper fire. Colonel Beers requested gun ships all gun ships north on a Combat Assault, diverted Primo birds to area. At 1200hrs remain the same till the end of day, Delta 1st Platoon with Recon Location at BS886329, 2nd Platoon Bridge 104-105, 3rd Platoon located 99-100. PFC BEN JOWERS JR. is listed as KHA.

 

Echo Company
February 6, 1968

Echo Company and 4.2 platoon and radar platoon where located on LZ Thunder to provide direct support to the Battalion. At 1510hrs Recon Platoon and the 1st Platoon Delta Company are located at BS886329 working the area with Recon Blocking and 1st Platoon Search and Destroy Operations in their Area of Operations.
