Headquarters and Headquarter Company
December 6, 1970

Forward Area: (1-20 Infantry Headquarters) is located at LZ Liz and will continue to work with ARVN units in their Area of Operations. At 0650hrs MACV Mo Duc LZ Max and Tu Son 5 received approximately 10 mortar rounds (caliber not determined), M-16 fire and AK 47 fire. Contact over at approximately 0600hrs Results: 4 PSDF WIA, 2 civilians WIA, 3 PSDF WIA, 4 PF WIA, 4 VC KIA, (1 B-40 Rocket) Launcher CIA. US Advisor said approximately 30 VC/NVA, attack centered around the village headquarters rather then LZ Max OP. ARVN with US Advisors pursing the enemy to the east. Enemy possible C-22 NVA. At 0705hrs MACV Mo Duc requests Urgent Dust Off for 4 Vietnamese friendly wounded by mortar fire. Pick up location at Mo Duc Soccer field, (1 female civilian, 2 PSDF and 4 PF). At 0730hrs MACV Mo Duc element is pursuing the enemy as far as the edge of the village and then returned to highway 1. At 0800hrs Primo 2 is on station for Command and Control Helicopter. At 0820hrs MACV Mo Duc, reference this mornings contact vicinity BS750470, reports they have CIA 25-30 Chi Com grenades, 1 RPG round, 6 B-40 rockets, 1 B-40 rocket launchers, 1 Bangalore torpedo and also have 4 NVA KIA. At 0910hrs Primo 2 spotted 1 male military age dressed in black carrying a pack. The male evaded into the tree line dropping his pack in the process. Primo 2 landed and picked up the pack, however in doing so he lost sight of the man. 3rd Platoon Alpha Company dispatched a patrol into the area after Primo marked the target. Pack contained 1 ½ pound of rice, 1 VC hammock and 1 pair green pants. At 2348hrs MACV 2 RF walking to their home were ambushed by 9 VC firing small arms, resulting in 1 RF KIA, 1 WIA vicinity BS727624. Legend: 1st Platoon 83-88, 2nd Platoon 33-38, 3rd Platoon 03-08, 4th Platoon 63-68 and CO 09.

Rear Area: Battalion Rear continued their Mission of general support for the battalion and continued their Security Mission for LZ Bronco.

 

Alpha Company
December 6, 1970

At 0042hrs Alpha Company 3rd Platoon vicinity BS750573 spotted 3 VC approximately 250 meters to their south moving south vicinity BS750570. They engaged with small arms and the 3 personnel evaded to the south, will check the area in the morning. At 0900hrs Alpha sent Multiple Patrols in their Area of Operations. Alpha Company 2nd Platoon on patrol vicinity BS756583 spotted 1 VC at 150 meters moving north. He was wearing blue and green uniform and carrying a pack, had no weapon. They engaged and the VC evaded north into the underbrush. They swept the area and recovered the pack. Results: 1 flashlight, l can of milk, 1 hammocks, 16 pounds of rice, 1 pouch tobacco. At 1110hrs Alpha Company 2nd Platoon vicinity BS755579 found approximately 40 pounds of Marijuana in a hootch. It will be back hauled to LZ Liz. At 1940hrs Alpha Company Command Post and 1st Platoon BS750570 ambush BS755570, 3rd platoon BS756544, BS752546, 2nd Platoon BS747584 ambush BS748582 and BS746582.

 

Bravo Company
December 6, 1970

At 0915hrs Bravo Company 3rd Platoon vicinity BS660566 while on patrol found a rice cache consisting of 3,000 pounds of unpolished rice and 800 pounds of polished rice. It was cached in various containers (100 pounds bags, clay pots and baskets) and we found in the hootches and tunnels were destroyed. Also have 4,500 pounds of rice bagged ready to be extracted. Also detained 5 males all over 40, negative ID’s suspect VC/VCS will back haul to Mo Duc. At 1345hrs Bravo Company 4th Platoon, while searching a hamlet, vicinity BS658561, picked up 1 male detainee 12 to 15 years old, wearing a white shirt and blue shorts. Found in a bunker and they believe he has some information, will send in on back haul. Bravo Company continued their patrolling and sweeps in their Area of Operation. Bravo Company again in the evening with be using Multiple Ambushes across a part of the 515 highway.

 

Charlie Company
December 6, 1970

At 0631hrs Charlie Company all element closed on BS738618. At 0920hrs Charlie Company 1st, 2nd and 4th platoon located at BS738618 with 3rd platoon at BS771596. At 0950hrs 3rd Platoon at BS772595 found 1 bunker 4 X 4 X 4. It was a two man bunker covered with straw, it was destroyed, 40 meters to the south found 1 dud 155 WP round, it was destroyed, at 1150hrs Charlie Company 2nd Platoon found 1 bunker vicinity BS738616 with not entrance located. A sniper position in a tree line next to a trench at BS737616, 1 bunker with a blocked entrance at BS738613, l bunker with water entrance vicinity BS735616, 1 WP grenade booby trap in front of hootch at BS735616, the bunker was destroyed and the booby trap blown in place. At 1910hrs Charlie Company Command Post BS738618, 3rd Platoon is at BS761617 with ambush at BS756619, 2nd Platoon has ambush at BS729611 and 1st Platoon has ambush at BS738610.

 

Delta Company
December 6, 1970

Delta Company has the Security Mission for LZ Liz, which includes Road Security Mission from BS760435-BS776435.

 

Echo Company
December 6, 1970

Echo Company headquarters and 4.2 Mortar Platoon is location on LZ Liz, where the 4.2 Platoon providing direct fire support for the Battalion. Echo Company Headquarters has the coordination responsibility for Base Defense. At 0057hrs 1-20 Infantry PZ LZ Liz 0005hrs LZ 1 BS746424 at 0010hrs cold first lift 8 packs, PZ 2 LZ Liz 0016hrs LZ 2 BS746424 at 0021 cold 2nd Lift with 7 Packs. At 0100hrs Recon Platoon reference spot # 45 BS742317, Blue Ghost advised that he saw a body on the ground. Ghost continued to fire up the tree line. Recon Platoon moved in the area and found 1 VC KIA with M-1 carbine Serial Number unknown because the weapon was blown away. The VC was approximately 26 years old, Recon confirmed the KIA at 0058hrs credited to Blue Ghost Black. At 0112hrs Blue Ghost Black is breaking station. At 0710hrs Recon Platoon closed on LZ Liz. At 1230hrs Recon Platoon is moving out to check report of bodies at base of South OP vicinity BS749543 and BS742422. At 1310hrs Recon Platoon closed on LZ Liz with negative findings.
