Forward Area: 1-20 Infantry Headquarters is located at LZ Liz and will continued to work with ARVN units in their Area of Operations. At 0615hrs LATE SPOT the 4 ARVN at 052215hrs August 1971 at grid BS898314 picked up 1 VC CIA evac to Bronco. At 0616hrs 4 ARVN at 060500hrs August 1971 at grid BS898314 made contact with unknown size enemy force, results 5 VC KIA, 5 VC suspects, 1 M-16, 1 carbine, and 7 Chi Com grenades CIA, suspects taken to Bronco. At 0651hrs 1-20 Infantry resupply bird is on station. At 1300hrs Primo 2 (11 Brigade Aviation) is on station. At 1425hrs 1-20 Infantry request for Scout Dogs, Charlie 2 dogs, Delta 2 dogs, Bravo 1 dog and Echo 1 dog. At 1505hrs Inferno 59 is on station at Nighthawk Box 50 and broke station at 1705hrs with negative results. At 2010hrs 1-20 Infantry Mechanical Ambushes out: Alpha 2, Charlie 2, Delta 1 and Recon 1 for a total of 6 out. At 2018hrs LZ Liz is on 100% Alert, due to accidental firing of Alert signal (red star cluster). North OP 100% at 2019hrs, Bravo Company 100% at 2020hrs, 105Artillery 100% at 2022hrs, 155 Artillery 100% at 2022hrs Echo sector 100% at 2021hrs, South OP at 2020hrs cease fire called at 2023hrs and Alert ended at 2029hrs Alert was deemed satisfactory by hill commander. At 2043hrs 1-20 Infantry reports Field Strength: Alpha 53, Charlie 47, Delta 53, Echo 20 and HHC 9. At 2205hrs 1-20 Infantry Inferno Blue is working in Nighthawk Box 52 and at 2242hrs checking Bronco perimeter, 2250hrs LZ Liz, 2258hrs Snoopy and broke station at 2307hrs. At 2258hrs MACV Mo Duc E Troop 1 Calvary found 20 pounds of Petna and 1 155 round booby trap at BS675527 and blew it in place with negative casualties. Legend: 1st Platoon 59, 2nd Platoon 56, 3rd Platoon 89, 4th Platoon 97 and CO-29.

Rear Area: Battalion Rear continued their Mission of general support for the battalion and continued their Security Mission for Chu Lai.

 

Alpha Company
August 6, 1971

Alpha Company continued to conduct saturation patrolling in their Area of Operation and at 0725hrs Alpha Company 2nd Platoon moving to their Patrol Base at BS743387 and closed on location at 0817hrs. At 2007hrs Alpha Company closed on Night Defense Position at BS739395 with 2 Mechanical Ambushes out.

 

Bravo Company
August 6, 1971

Bravo Company will continue their Security Mission for LZ Liz and Access Road security. At 2018hrs LATE SPOT LZ Liz I s on 100% due to accidental firing of Alert Signal (Red Star Cluster), North OP 100% at 2019hrs and Bravo Company 100% at 2020hrs and Alert is terminated and was deemed Satisfactory by Hill Commander.

 

Charlie Company
August 6, 1971

At 1040hrs Charlie Company 2nd Platoon at BS657484 and Charlie Company 1st Platoon patrol is at BS689485. At 1305hrs Charlie Company 2nd Platoon is moving out to BS664486. At 1700hrs closed on their Night Defense Position at BS660487. At 1740hrs Charlie Company found 55gal drum of CS in Night Defense Position located in brush on downward slope of hill at grid BS660487, not being used as booby trap. Charlie Company has 2 Mechanical Ambushes out again tonight.

 

Delta Company
August 6, 1971

At 0651hrs Delta Company Delta Company all that was found on sweep this morning was some broken brush leading to the river. At 0825hrs Delta Company point element is cutting toward their Patrol Base location and it wasn’t until 1405hrs Delta Company 2nd Platoon is in their Patrol Base at BS647416. At 1730hrs Delta Company moved into their Night Defense Position at BS646477, field strength 53. At 1800hrs Delta Company is in PAPA Bravo Night Defense Position at BS646477.

 

Echo Company
August 6, 1971

Echo Company headquarters and 4.2 Mortar Platoon is location on LZ Liz, where the 4.2 Platoon providing direct fire support for the Battalion. Echo Company Headquarters has the responsibility for Base Defense. Recon Platoon continued their Security Mission for 1-20 Infantry. At 1900hrs Recon is moving to their Night Defense Position at BS767418 and closed on their position at 2000hrs and changed at 2035hrs to BS768415.
