Forward Area: 1-20 Infantry Headquarters is located at LZ Liz and will continued to work with ARVN units in their Area of Operations. At 0915hrs LZ Liz Access Road is now open. At 1005hrs Slow Motion 3 is breaking station. At 1045hrs to S-3 198 Infantry Brigade from S-3 1-20 Infantry in view of displacement of IOS from OP Wink request withdrawal of US element this unit from OP Wink at the same time. At 1050hrs Delta Company closed on LZ Liz. At 1330hrs Hornet (19) 496 is on station for re supply. At 1355hrs Firebird 99 took fire from grid BS630536, heavy volume of AK47 and 51 caliber fire, took unknown number of hits and broke station, request an air strike ASAP on this grid. Firebird was flying at approximately 75’ at 70 knots, Air Strike was approved and completed at 1700hrs. At 1950hrs TMF Fire Mission at 1919hrs String 294 target C has 2 to 3 personnel moving north to south at 3 miles per hour, negative metal confirmation and engaged at 1925hrs with 81mm HE Mortar and at 1938hrs engaged with 16 HE rounds VT Artillery 155mm. At 2220hrs TMF Fire Mission at 2201hrs String 294 target A personnel moving north at 3 miles per hour, negative metal confirmation, and at 2205hrs engaged with 22 HE rounds 81mm Mortar and 8 HE VT rounds Artillery 155mm. At 2330hrs Saber 40 spotted 1 VC with AK 47 vicinity grid 773558, engaged and person was KIA, at this time received heavy volume of small arms fire (100 rounds AK-47) from bunker complex, engaged bunkers, results unknown at this time. Rear Area: Battalion Rear continued their Mission of general support for the battalion and continued their Security Mission for LZ Bronco.
Alpha Company
April 6, 1971
At 0630hrs Alpha Company, Mechanical Ambush detonated at BS927521; negative result bird tripped it out. At 1528hrs Alpha Company 3rd Platoon moving outs to BS626522 and closed on BS626522. At 1615hrs 3rd Platoon patrol is at checkpoint 1, at 1710hrs 3rd Platoon patrol closed on BS626522.
Bravo Company
April 6, 1971
At 1155hrs Bravo Company 1st Platoon and 2nd Platoon at BS636536 requested gun ships and urgent Dust Off for 1 US WIA, 1 US KIA made contact with approximately 15 NVA and received B40 rockets and heavy AK 47 fire. Helix 28, Red Baron 40, Dust Off 83 on station at 1220hrs and Dust Off 83 without gun ship picked up WHA at 1300hrs. Firebird 99 on station at 1320hrs Johnson E-5 KHA and E4 Simpson WHA (I believe James R. Simpson). At 1355hrs Hornet 17 on station for re supply Firebird 99 took fire from grid BS635036, heavy volume of AK 47 and 51cal fire, took unknown number of hits and broke station, request an Air Strike ASAP on this grid. Firebird was flying at 75’ and at 70 knots. Air Strike was approved and completed at 1700hrs. At 1755hrs Bravo Company while observation Fire-Mission called in on contact area BS630539 and BS629536, hear 24 secondary explosions. At 1855hrs Bravo Company locations are Command Post and 4th Platoon Night Defense Position at 643544, and 2nd Platoon Night Defense Position at 640551. SGT JOSEPH WALLACE JOHNSON is LISTED AS KHA.
Charlie Company

At 0905hrs Charlie Company 3rd and 4th Platoon moving out to BS712412, and at 0955hrs Charlie Company 2nd Platoon moving out to BS706426. At 1000hrs Charlie Company 1st Platoon and Command Post is moving out to BS715425. At 1517hrs Charlie Company 1st Platoon and Command Post is at Patrol Base vicinity BS717424, 3rd, 2nd and 4th Platoons is still moving 1st Platoon patrol about around the 1st Platoon and Command Post location. At 1945hrs Charlie Company 3rd and 4th Platoon with the Command Post at BS712413, 2nd Platoon at BS706426, 1st Platoon moves out to join the Night Defense Position.
Delta Company

At 1955hrs Delta Company leaving LZ Bronco en route to LZ Liz. At 1050hrs Delta Company closed on LZ Liz and is part of the Security Mission for LZ Liz.
Echo Company
April 6, 1971
Echo Company headquarters and 4.2 Mortar Platoon is location on LZ Liz, where the 4.2 Platoon providing direct fire support for the Battalion. Echo Company Headquarters has the responsibility for Base Defense. Recon Platoon continued their Security Mission for 1-20 Infantry. At 0615hrs Recon is moving out to Day Location at BS719423. At 0715hrs Recon searching area of IOS sighting and artillery Fire Mission found 1 VC KBA, negative equipment or supplies, drag marks moving west. At 0800hrs Recon is closing on LZ Liz. SP4 FAL Borrero Garcia was attached to 91st Evac Hospital (11B20).
