Forward Area: 1-20 Infantry Headquarters is located at LZ Custer (BS512573) and will continued to work with ARVN units in their Area of Operations. At 0645hrs S-4 Resupply bird is on station Rattler 24 tail # 004. At 0945hrs Air Calvary request upper left BS4461 and Lower right BS5053. At 0945hrs TO Brigade from 1-20 Infantry Requested to conducts Eagle Flight with Charlie Company and Recon 1st PZ LZ Custer to 1st LZ at BS528586 and 2nd PZ LZ Custer to LZ BS488601 and 3rd PZ at BS528586 to LZ BS488601, 4th LZ BS488301 to 4th LZ BS463581. Then 5th PZ BS492551 to LZ Custer and Charlie Company 3rd PZ 463581 to LZ Custer and back to their Security Mission. At 1200hrs Echo Company request a priority Dust Off for 1 individual who was hit by unknown object when a hook was hovering over LZ Custer Line # V6938, Dust Off completed at 1220hrs by Dust Off #57. At 1500hrs Concord (Bravo 123 Aviation) is going into special Air Calvary Box. At 1615hrs Commanding General arrived at LZ Custer at 1545hrs Discussed Defense of LZ Custer also the movement of Bravo Company to valley to the north and Delta (-) to follow on afternoon of 05 September 1971. Discussed our shortages were air mattress, poncho, small trousers and small boots. Commanding General also wanted what we did on Stand down we have the Companies relax, check personnel actions, pay, medical appointments. Commanding General stated he wanted no formal training programs. Just relax, have Company Commanders talk to troops to discuss deficiencies noted on previous operation and to on weapons and equipment. At 1640hrs Bravo Company 123 Aviation Company at BS722245 saw 2 VC with packs running across rice patty fire at them with negative results. At 1640hrs Gun Ship (Bravo 123 Aviation) at BS733522 found a RPG Launcher went over it and came around again and found it gone and at BS712257 found a bunker complex and 5 to 10 hootches destroyed. Legend: 1st Platoon 59, 2nd Platoon 56, 3rd Platoon 89, 4th Platoon 97 and CO-29.
Rear Area: Battalion Rear continued their Mission of general support for the battalion and continued their Security Mission for Chu Lai.
Alpha Company

Bravo Company
September 5, 1971
At 0825hrs Bravo Company 1st Platoon is moving to BS506575 and at BS503574 and at 1150hrs Bravo Company 1st Platoon closed on BS506575. At 1635hrs Bravo Company established their Night Defense Position at BS506575 and at 1640hrs moved it to BS505573. At 2045hrs Bravo Company found recent enemy movement found 15 camp fires, along stream. Also found a wash up area inside of the mountain that could hold 20 to 30 men along with recent C-rations cans, these where found between 1400hrs and 1700hrs. Bravo Company reports the following SP4 Robert J Janis and SP4 Howell R Reid where attached to 91 Evac Hospital.
Charlie Company

At 1020hrs Charlie Company 1st Platoon at BS516565 and at 1045hrs Charlie Company at BS515566 1st Platoon which on patrol found a booby trap marker it consisted of a pointed stick laying across a dead tree pointing down the trail negative findings. At 1145hrs Charlie Company 1st Platoon closed on LZ Custer to take over the Security Mission. Also part of Charlie Company is at Chu Lai for Stand Down.
Delta Company

Delta Company has the Security Mission for LZ Custer. Delta Company at 0945hrs moving out to BS519575 and closed on that location at 1038hrs and then moved to BS521577 and then closed on LZ Custer at 1145hrs. At 1600hrs Delta Company has moved to BS508563 found 2 Punji stakes 3 to 5 moths old, and at 1700hrs Delta Company is moving to BS504566. At 2000hrs Delta Company moved to BS504566 where they established their Night Defense Position. At 2030hrs Delta Company found 1 Punji stake.
Echo Company

Echo Company headquarters and 4.2 Mortar Platoon is location on LZ Custer, where the 4.2 Platoon providing direct fire support for the Battalion. Echo Company Headquarters has the coordination responsibility for Base Defense. Recon Platoon continued their Security Mission for 1-20 Infantry. At 1200hrs Echo Company request a priority Dust Off for 1 individual who was hit by unknown object when a hook was hovering over LZ Custer Line # V6938, Dust Off completed at 1220hrs by Dust Off #57.
