Headquarters and Headquarter Company
September 5, 1970

Forward Area: 1-20 Infantry Headquarters is located at LZ Liz and will continued to work with ARVN units in their Area of Operations. At 0220hrs TMF S75B sighted 4 to 5 personnel that where moving north to south initial report TMF never called back to confirm. At 0200hrs MACV Mo Duc said at 2200hrs PF 149 at BS686607 captured a prisoner believed to be Chinese can speak very little Vietnamese, capture 300 meters from Song Ve Bridge, unknown age. At 0200hrs Information on booby trap from 4-3 Infantry on 02 April at BS612497, unknown type mine 9 US KIA, 17 WIA, 25 July at BS616490 Chi Com with trap wire on trail 2 US WIA was near old .51 Caliber position. At 0400hrs net as been keyed for over an hour, now have Bravo, Charlie Companies and Y33 on administration, believe net keyed by Delta Company, they can not be reached on Command or by their internal. At 0630hrs 1-20 Infantry TOC Primo on station Commander and S-3 departed LZ Liz to Visit Alpha, Bravo, Charlie, and Delta Companies for coordination of Combat Assault and Eagle Flight and returned to LZ Liz at 0725hrs. At 0730hrs S-3 1-20 Infantry AMC on station for Combat Assault and Eagle Flight, Battalion Commander and S-3 and RTO departed LZ Liz for Combat Assault and all day Eagle Flight, Command Post group will stay with the Commander for the duration of Operation. At 0905hrs AMC Chopper spotted 1 person with pack, Primo is checking area at BS615433. At 1710hrs 1-20 Eagle Fight Started at 1st PZ Recon at 0813hrs and 1st LZ at 0825hrs with Alpha Company 21 PZ at 1700hrs with last LZ at BS602479 at 1710hrs (see each unit for their times). Legend: 1st Platoon 63-68, 2nd Platoon 53-58, 3rd Platoon 23-28, 4th Platoon 83-88, CO 09.

Rear Area: Battalion Rear continued their Mission of general support for the battalion and continued their Security Mission for LZ Bronco.

 

Alpha Company
September 5, 1970

At 1300hrs Alpha Company 53 element detainee 2 females with negative ID and found some bunkers, which they destroyed. Alpha Company conducted a Combat Assault 1st Pick up 1514hrs and Last LZ 1710hrs location BS602479. At 1850hrs Alpha Company closed on Night Defense Position at vicinity BS614511 at 1815hrs closed.

 

Bravo Company
September 5, 1970

At 0925hrs Bravo Company requests Urgent Dust Off for 2 RF from RF 937 working on road and hit booby trap, multiple frag wounds on round head and body, at BS747641, was a105 booby trap completed at 0935hrs. Bravo Company 57 element Day Logger at BS732627, the 66 element is at Day Logger at BS739661, the 64 element moving out on Patrol. At 1145hrs Bravo Company 64 element receiving sniper fire from BS728628, small arms fire about 6 rounds of fire, fired 81mm, small arms out of contact at 1210hrs. At 1650hrs Bravo Company the 53 element in Night Defense Position at BS716635. At 2255hrs 23 element took 2 82mm rounds, 1 hit 200 meters to the north rounds came from BS702588, negative casualties, returned fire 81mm unknown results.

 

Charlie Company
September 5, 1970

1-20 Infantry Eagle Fight at 0915hrs Charlie Company 53 PZ at BS765377 to LZ at BS615483 at 0928hrs, at 1015hrs 63 PZ at BS728429 to BS605478 at 1033hrs, and 23 at 1015hrs PZ BS728427 to LZ BS603484 at 1025hrs. At 1534hrs Charlie Company continues to conducts Eagle Flight 23 PZ BS585475 to LZ BS598485 at 1545hrs, At 1620 Charlie 53 PZ BS605478 to LZ BS609500 at 1640hrs. At 1010hrs Charlie Company 55 element found 2 bunkers at BS609477, 1 new and 1 fairly old, fresh boot prints in the area, will CS both bunkers, old bunker was more like a fighting position. At 1250hrs Charlie Company 23 element found at BS585475, 8 positions under rocks, 1 was a very small tunnel, all positions were shaped in a half moon position, altogether 50 to 75 meters long and 3 to 4’ long, looked to be about 1 week old. Also 800 pounds of rice found above ground, and 1 55 gallon drum buried. At 1332hrs Charlie Company 53 element has 1 female detained 45-47 with bad ID, also inside hootch found some documents and AK 47 springs. Charlie Company 63 element at 1400hrs at BS594470 63 element has 1 NVA KIA had a bamboo rucksack with poncho and hammock, engaged with small arms fire by point man who spotted him and open fire. At 1445hrs Charlie Company 53 element has 2 detainees at BS613474 with negative ID, 1 male 50 years old, and 1 female 35 years old. Charlie Company has a total of 3 detainees to send to Military Intelligence.

 

Delta Company
September 5, 1970

At 0835hrs Part of Eagle Flight completed the following PZ and LZ were utilized 0825hrs Delta 23 PZ BS765377 to 0900hrs LZ at BS625468, Delta 63 0835hrs PZ BS765377 to 0900hrs LZ BS619475. At 1445hrs Delta Company reports Delta 63 PZ at BS605478 to LZ BS609503 at 1500hrs, at 1455hrs Delta 53 PZ at BS605478 to LZ BS609503 at 1447hrs and at 1650hrs Delta Company PZ to LZ BS613491. At 1623hrs Delta Company 09 picked up 12 detainees at BS609503 with negative ID. Delta Company 63 has 5 males and 4 females pick up at BS616509 negative ID also 2 babies. At 1800hrs Delta Company at BS613491 routine Dust Off for #42F with 103 temperatures completed 1803hrs. At 1915hrs Delta Company 63 found BS613491, 2000 pounds of Corn in 5 gal cans and bags. It was in hootches, and appeared to have been carried in the area, destroyed in place.

 

Echo Company
September 5, 1970

Echo Company headquarters and 4.2 Mortar Platoon is location on LZ Liz, where the 4.2 Platoon providing direct fire support for the Battalion. Echo Company Headquarters has the coordination responsibility for Base Defense. At 0813hrs Recon Platoon reports PZ LZ Liz to 0825hrs LZ at BS631516. At 1603hrs Recon Platoon requests routine Dust Off for (US) Woosley at BS631516 was completed at 1707hrs.
