Battalion Forward: 1-20 Infantry Headquarters is located at LZ Liz and continued their working with the ARVN units in their Area of Operations. At 0530hrs Command Message pass on to the Companies (Keep your weapon clean). At 1410hrs FAC 31 Air Strike into BS823440, 20mm passes only cleared by S-3 Air, Bomb Damage Assessment 2 hootches destroyed, 1 hootch knocked down. At 2106hrs South OP Spotted flashes possible mortar tub at BS745440.
Battalion Rear: Battalion Rear continued their Mission for providing general support for the Battalion. At 2000hrs Base Defense LZ Bronco requested a free fire zone between the hours of 1800hrs to 0630hrs daily zone is as follows; BS818423 east to South China Sea- from BS818423 south to BS818400 and east to the South China Sea. At 2100hrs LZ Bronco PP/SI-5 picked up 6 persons at BS824408 and engaged with 18 rounds or 105 Artillery rounds, 13 rounds 81mm Mortar and 9 rounds HE 105 Artillery direct fire. At 2220hrs at BS817402 picked up 5 persons and engaged with 2 rounds 81mm mortar and unknown amount of 50caliber fire.
Alpha Company

Alpha Company continued their Security Mission for LZ Liz. At 2228hrs Alpha Company Bunker 4 spotted movement 150 meters out, blew a claymore and shooting (50 caliber) Machine Gun.
Bravo Company
September 5, 1969
At 0014hrs Bravo Company at BS777443 spotted 1 VC/NVA and engaged area with small arms fire with results unknown. At 0445hrs Bravo Company 32 element is moving out on their operation from their snake location. At 0508hrs Bravo Company 63 has closed on BS789416 and at 0516hrs 64 and 62 elements has left their snake locations and is proceeding to its blocking position for today’s Operation. At 0615hrs Bravo Company 32 and 67 elements moving out on their sweep. At 0635hrs the sweep had negative results on this morning operation 32 element spotted 3 individuals, but they were not close enough for any identification. At 0650hrs1-120 Infantry S-3 to Bravo Company 67 element to return to grid 765441 and wait for mine sweep people and check area our, had radar, visible and sensor reading of VC in this area. At 0657hrs Bravo Company 32 elements is closing on my location 64 is moving to 402 and 67 is moving toward grid BS765441. At 0715hrs Bravo Company 32 element closed on Night Defense Position and 67 elements checking out area that was requested. At 0805hrs Bravo Company is closing on Day Logger at this time. At 1005hrs Bravo Company 67 element is located at the south bridge. At 1330hrs at BS777414 received AK 47 fire about 20 rounds, while checking out ambush location at 1800hrs Bravo Company at BS777445. At 2020hrs Bravo Company is moving into their Night Defense Position at BS787429, with 64 at BS774454, 92 at BS781434, and 67 at BS795405.
Charlie Company

At 0616hrs Charlie Company all snakes have closed on our location. At 0718hrs Charlie Company in located in the vicinity of BS740465. At 0800hrs Charlie Company 92 Ranger element is moving out on today’s Operation. At 1005hrs Charlie Company 92 elements closed on Day Logger have 5 female VCS also. At 1130hrs S-3 LZ Liz information was passed to Charlie Company about men for Recon, TOC NCO Liz and NCOIC of bud pad Bronco total of 4 men. At 1400hrs Charlie Company at BS746454 and moved to BS756454 by 1605hrs. At 1820hrs 1-20 Infantry to Charlie Company, 39 Engineer, informed of all Bravo Company and Recon Operations and location from 4 September 69 to 6th. Charlie Company by 2045hrs has moved into their Night Defense Position at BS744448, with 35 at BS748453 and 94 at BS744445. At 2115hrs Charlie Company 94 element spotted about 7 flashes possible mortar tube, to west of Night Defense Position site at the base of the mountains.
Delta Company

At 1200hrs Delta Company remain in their blocking position. At 2045hrs Delta Company moved into their Night Defense Position at BS732548. Delta Company reports SP4 Ralph W. Butler was evac to the 91st Evac Hospital.
Echo Company
September 5, 1969
Echo Company headquarters and 4.2 Mortar Platoon is location on LZ Liz, where the 4.2 Platoon providing direct fire support for the Battalion. At 0633hrs 4.2 Platoon reports Schedules Fires 16, Observed Missions 3 and Defense Targets 3 for a total of 81 HE, 3 WP, and 2 Illumination rounds. Echo Company Headquarters has the responsibility for Base Defense. At 0533hrs Recon and Tracks are leaving LZ Liz at this time. At 0750hrs Recon Platoon reports their location at BS738423. At 1010hrs Recon and E Troop are located at BS7324. At 1200hrs Recon Platoon is located at BS740414 and at 1248hrs Recon Platoon and tracks has closed on LZ Liz.
