Headquarters and Headquarter Company

Forward Area: 1-20 Infantry Headquarters is located at LZ Thunder and will continued to work with ARVN units in their Area of Operations. At 1017hrs 1-20 Infantry TOC Delta Company 19 Engineer at BS917253 a 5 ton truck hit a pressure type mine (bamboo type 40-45 pounds) results 1 US WHA (M), not evac and truck was disabled, the truck is being towed back to LZ Thunder. Personnel on truck also received 20 rounds small arms fire, came from village east of Highway 1, returned fire with negative results. At 1145hrs 1-20 Infantry TOC reports Charlie Company 19 Engineer late report, 0740hrs to 0820hrs at BS915167 north of bridge 92 mine sweep team found 30 holes approximately 25 meters apart. The hoes were approximately 10" X 10" in diameter with no explosives. To the north found 5 more holes in these were 7.62 rounds also at BS921185 other small holes were found 1 with coke can with small piece of commo wire leading to can. At 1210hrs MACV Duc Pho reports RF Company 714 is in contact at BS786433 with estimated platoon of VC, MACV request permission to stay out there. At 1545hrs Delta Company 19 Engineer at BS915247 going north received 150 rounds automatic weapons fire from the West side of road, with negative casualties of damage and returned fire. At 2155hrs 1-20 Infantry TOC reports saw one man in white shirt and engaged with small arms fire with negative assessment.
Rear Area: Battalion Rear continued their Mission of general support for the battalion and continued their Security Mission for LZ Bronco.
Alpha Company
September 5, 1968
Alpha Company continued their Security Mission for LZ Liz with Alpha 20 and at 0820hrs Alpha Company 1st Platoon is at BS757436. At 1002hrs Alpha 10 is located at BS760430 and Alpha 30 is at BS740429. At 1438hrs Alpha Company locations are A 10 at BS778443 and A 30 at BS723423. At 1820hrs Alpha Company 10 and 20 are location at LZ Liz with ambushes 31 at BS787473, 32 at BS802446, and 33 at BS788451.
Bravo Company
September 5, 1968
Bravo Company continued their Security Mission for LZ Dragon and at 1820hrs no changes. PFC Ralph E. Ponn was evac to the 2nd Surgical Hospital sick at 1910hrs.
Charlie Company
September 5, 1968
Charlie Company continued their Security Mission for LZ Thunder and at 0820hrs the 20, is at BS870350, 23 at BS863353, and 30 is sweeping to 20 and LRRP no change. At 0845hrs Charlie Company at BS859349 engaged 2 VC evading results in 1 VC KIA and other VC successfully evaded. At 1339hrs Charlie Company at BS847349 detained 1 male VCS, had French type ID, 51 years old, but looks like he is around 34, was dressed in white, will evac to LZ Thunder. At 1438hrs Charlie Company reports their location 20 at BS268344 and 24 is located at BS870350. At 1820hrs Charlie Company at LZ Thunder with the 13 element ambush at BS906285.
Delta Company
September 5, 1968
Delta Company continued their Security Mission for LZ Charlie Brown and at 0820hrs LRRP Niagra and Ohio, no change with Delta Command Post at 908202. At 1820hrs LRRP Niagra is now at BS768318 and Ohio is at BS846252, Delta Company ambushes are at BS919199, BS921185, BS919195, BS917196 and BS916166. SP4 James R. Smith was sick and at 0800hrs was evac and attached to the 6th Connivance Center. At 1300hrs SGT Roger E, Prestage was sick and evac to the 85th Evac Hospital at 0300hrs.
Echo Company
September 5, 1968
Echo Company is located at LZ Thunder where Battalion Forward is and coordinates with the Battalion Rear Elements and Base Defense elements on LZ Thunder. The 4.2 Platoon is located on LZ Thunder with 2 tubes and has 2 tubes on LZ Charlie Brown where they continue to provide direct fire support for the (1-20 Infantry Battalion). At 0820hrs Recon Platoon reports their location at BS828267. At 1002hrs Recon Platoon reports their location at LZ Thunder waiting transportation to LZ Bronco. At 1820hrs Recon Platoon is located at LZ Bronco.
