Forward Area: 1-20 Infantry Headquarters is located at LZ Liz and will continued to work with ARVN units in their Area of Operations. At 0545hrs TMF at 0525hrs S-72B sighted stationary target with metal confirmation and engaged at 0535hrs with 6 VT rounds 105 Artillery. At 0642hrs AMC is arriving on LZ Liz. At 0705hrs Battalion Commander departed LZ Liz at 0705hrs for Surge Operation 1.PZ at 0710hrs Victor 84 at BS758433 to 1 LZ Victor 84 at BS784507. The 2 PZ at 0732hrs Romeo 84 at BS697556 and 2 LZ Romeo 84 at BS740567 The 3 PZ at 0750hrs Romeo 54 BS697556 with the 3 LZ at 0759hrs Romeo 54 at BS756584. 4. PZ at 0807hrs Romeo 34 at BS697556 with 4 LZ at 0815hrs Romeo 34 at BS755587. 5. PZ at Romeo Whiskey at 0822hrs at BS697556 and 5 LZ at 0828hrs Romeo Whiskey at BS743560 and then refuel stop. 6. At 0803hrs Sharks, Gun Ships engaged 4 VC with packs and weapons at BS755583, results 2 VC KIA, spotted the 4 VC moving into hootch, engaged with rockets with 1 pack evaded to the west. The 54 element is moving out to check the area, resulting in 2 enemy KIA age 17 and 21 KIA wearing Purple an Black, Purple and Blue, CIA Pack with small amount of rice with green uniforms and hammock. At 0815hrs Brigade Commander wants all known LZ in Area of Operation by 6 digit, grid by 051700hrs October 1970. At 1025hrs Bravo Troop 1-1 Calvary is leaving LZ Dragon at 1025hrs. At 2000hrs 1-20 Infantry TOC request Area of Operation extension Date/Time/Grid 060600hrs to 082400hrs October 1970 from BS7050 to BS7053 to BS712537 southeast along Railroad Brem to BS730508 to BS7350 to start. Purpose Combat Operations, Area of Operation approved by LT Vinh, Area of Operation designated B55, however there is an ARVN OP at BS724519, we are asked to work around it and not fire it up. At 2200hrs LZ Liz Urgent Dust Off for 1 US Bitten by snake, Ferandex E-5 a Redlegs completed at 2210hrs. At 2300hrs Mo Duc at BS723547 at 052120hrs October 1970, PF 158 had ambush set up, VC walked into it resulting in 3 VC KIA and 1 M-16 CIA. Legend: 1st Platoon 54-59, 2nd Platoon 84-89, 3rd Platoon 34-39, 4th Platoon 04-09 and CO 12.
Rear Area: Battalion Rear continued their Mission of general support for the battalion and continued their Security Mission for LZ Bronco.
Alpha Company

At 0705hrs Alpha Company element closed at BS737414, the 36 element is moving out to BS749407 and the 55 element closed at BS729429. At 1625hrs Alpha Company at 742457 detained 1 Vietnamese male age 10, carrying note from VC saying GI will be attached. Was taking note to Vietnamese female her name is TranThi Hoc , then went with boy and detained her at BS738458 had ID, Age 33 both where evac to LZ Bronco. At 1715hrs Alpha Company 34 is moving out to area vicinity BS758401. Alpha Company 55 ambush is a moving to rat patrol from 1900hrs to 2200hrs to BS730435. The 85 element at BS746450 detained 1 female 18 years old dressed in blue and black, and had a bad ID. Kit Carson Scout feels husband is VC will be evacuated tomorrow. At 1905hrs Alpha Company 55 element at BS734433 and the 34 element is at BS756401.
Bravo Company
October 5, 1970
Bravo Company takes part in a Surge Operation today, at 1000hrs Bravo Company Urgent Dust Off, for #B0299 and #B9143, frag wounds to stomach at BS752629, gun ships requested at 1005hrs Dust Off completed at 1030hrs. At 1100hrs Bravo Company 24 is Combat Assault into grid BS735614, searched area proceeded to the northwest, they received sniper fire vicinity BS730608 from 500 meters, assaulted area with negative enemy results, 1US WIA from sniper fire evac by shark 6. At 1230hrs Bravo Company 84 and 12 elements Combat Assault into BS753616 moved north to BS752629 where they engaged an unknown number of enemies in a bunker, small arms fire and hand grenades were exchanged at a distance of 50 meters. Sharks arrived and provide air power while 84 and 12 element assaulted the bunkers with Members of the 84 element destroyed the bunker then started to dig into the top. As a result they found the following, 5 VC KIA, 1 M-1 Carbine, 1 Smith/Wesson 38 pistol, 1 K-54 pistol, 1 Chi Com Frag, 1 large amount of medical supplies and large amount of documents. Bravo Company reports SGT Donald K. Bryant treated and released B 23 Medical with frag wounds nose and laceration to scalp, PRC David M. Bradford treated and released B 23 Medical with frag wound forearm and chest and PFC James B. Sharpe was evac to 91st Evac Hospital with gunshot wound to left forearm.
Charlie Company

Charlie Company reports completed their Air Move from PZ at BS783510, BS783504 and BS789502 to LZ Liz at 1950hrs. Charlie Company has taken over, the Security Mission for LZ Liz and Access Road.
Delta Company
October 5, 1970
Delta Company took part in Surge Operation Combat Assault. At 1000hrs Delta Company 56 element at place where Sharks fired up 4 packs in hedgerow. Saw one more man already wounded by Sharks and another man in a hedgerow evade across field, 56 engaged resulting in 2 KIA age 18 and 22 wearing black and Blue. At 1015hrs Delta Company 54-34 element found 3,000 pounds of rice in good condition, this harvest 1,100 pounds in 100 pound bags under floor of a hootch. The rest was under ground in plastic in several holes. The 04 element at BS743558 has approximately 6,000lbs of rice, same as above, some was under ground some above ground all wrapped or started to in plastic, for total 9,000 pounds. At 1125hrs Delta Company 34 element BS757586, 1 female, dressed in black with a new born baby was evading from 34 element, age 21 also 3 female dressed in black ages 23, 27, 30, 2 were evading, 1 was new in the area and acting suspicious. At 1738hrs Delta Company rice extraction total for the day 78 100 pounds bags, completed at the above time. At 1940hrs Delta Company 12 BS744552, 85 BS743560, 86 BS744557, 34 BS756574, 54 BS755577, 57 at BS752553. At 1945hrs Delta Company at the 12 location they have 33 100 pounds bags of rice and 53 20 pound bags, 4,360 pounds total. At 2015hrs the 84 element at BS743560 has 1 male detainee with negative ID, Brown shirt and Orange shorts 29-30 years old. He has what looks like some olds wounds and seemed to be high when picked up (eating cigarettes), will have him ready for extraction. Delta Company 04-12 at BS744552, 85 at BS743560 and 86 at BS744557 these are all changes in location due to the securing of rice that they have.
Echo Company

Echo Company headquarters and 4.2 Mortar Platoon is location on LZ Liz, where the 4.2 Platoon providing direct fire support for the Battalion. Echo Company Headquarters has the coordination responsibility for Base Defense. Recon Platoon continued their Security Mission for the 1-20 Infantry. Recon Platoon requested tunnel dog, bring it with 1st Hook in morning to LZ Bronco.
