Forward Area: 1-20 Infantry Headquarters is located at LZ Dottie and will continued to work with ARVN units their Area of Operations. At 0835hrs LRRP Jack Daniel’s report their location at BS699865. At 0947hrs LRRP Jack Daniel’s reports approximately location at BS7184 that FAC received sniper fire from approximately BS7184. FAC did not report this to 1-20 Infantry TOC. Didn’t realize he had been fired upon. LRRP is trying to adjust artillery on sniper location, also observed 60-70 Vietnamese passing their location and moving southwest to northwest carrying building material. At 1230hrs 1-20 Infantry request background and information on the following VC Nguyen, Mhc. He is supposed to be the commander of the 48 Local VC force Battalion, request information ASAP. At 1810hrs 1-20 Infantry TOC LRRP Jack Daniels at BS698867 sighted 4-5 carrying parties moving west at BS695848. They Lost sight of them at BS693845 they had basket contents unknown, also 6-7 had weapons, also sighted 100-120 Vietnamese party carrying building materials moving to east northeast, lost sight at BS698855. At 218hrs Message to Division TOC Request the Air strikes to operate not from the 11th Brigade from 071000hrs to 101800hrs October 1968. The Air Strikes will be working out of LZ Dottie and will be operation control with the 1-20 Infantry during operations Logan Field contact 1-20 Infantry. At 2330hrs 1-20 Infantry Swift Boat at BS775862 observed VCS evading and fired 50 Caliber Machinegun with negative assessment.
Rear Area: Battalion Rear continued their Mission of general support for the battalion and continued their Security Mission for LZ Bronco.
Alpha Company
October 5, 1968
The operations order was issued to the unit commanders and key personnel at 051330hrs October 1968 at LZ Dottie (BS633855). The OPERATION LOGAN FIELD was to begin on the 7 October 1968 at 0700hrs. At 0805hrs Alpha Company is located at BS545860 using saturation patrols and at 1015hrs with Center of Mass is at BS531855. At 1014hrs at BS523860 observed 1 VC run out of hut down through some hedgerows, engaged 1 VC KIA, no weapon or documents. At 1102hrs at BS521860 located a 30 Caliber ammo can in a hedgerow contained medical supplies, will evac to LZ Dottie. Alpha Company working to BS552850 and at 1550hrs and by 1725hrs is at BS769846 where Alpha Company has 1 US tripped a grenade booby trap resulting in 1 US WHA frag wounds in back and both legs Dust Off.
Bravo Company

Bravo Company continued their Security Mission for LZ Dottie and continued to prepare for Operation LOGAN FIELD.
Charlie Company
October 5, 1968
At 0835hrs Charlie Company reports their location at Quang Ngai Airstrip. At 1830hrs Charlie Company is at Quang Ngai Airstrip for their reaction force mission. At 1300hrs at LZ Dottie the operation order was issued to Unit Commanders and key personnel for LOGAN FIELD. Charlie Company is moving from Quang Ngai Airstrip to LZ Buff by CH-47, 1st PZ at 1610hrs and last LZ is at 1650hrs and moved into LZ Buff with Delta Company to prepare for OPERATION LOGAN FIELD.
Delta Company

At 0935hrs Delta Company has the Security Mission for LZ Buff. The Operations order was issued to the unit commanders and key personnel at 051300hrs Oct 1968 at LZ Dottie (BS633855). At 2154hrs Delta Company 96 element has 1 US with high temperature and convulsions. Request priority Dust Off completed 2219hrs (line #86). Delta Company reports SGT David L Carroll evac to 27th Surgical Hospital.
Echo Company
October 5, 1968
Echo Company is located at LZ Dottie where Battalion Forward is and coordinates with the Battalion Rear Elements and Base Defense elements on LZ Dottie. The 4.2 Platoon is located on LZ Dottie where they continue to provide direct fire support for the (1-20 Infantry Battalion). Recon Platoon reports their location at LZ Dottie.
