Headquarters and Headquarter Company

Forward Area: 1-20 Infantry Headquarters is located at LZ Cork and will continued to work with ARVN units their Area of Operations in OPERATION VERNON LAKE II. At 0930hrs Aerial Scouts at BS395619 detained 1 VCS for questioning brought to LZ Cork. At 1100hrs Aerial Scouts at BS398571 observed 15-20 individuals in khaki uniforms and evaded to the West of hill engaged with negative results. At 1519hrs Aerial Scouts at BS372559 received automatic weapons fire from 1-2 positions, at BS369564 automatic weapons fire at 15’ negative hits. At BS348535 automatic weapons fire and small arms fire at approximately 800’, received 1 hit negative casualty, Shot out some of their instruments and are returning to Chu Lai. 11 Infantry Brigade Message: Area of Operation Split 1-20 Infantry from 1-46 Infantry from 1-20 Infantry from BS454610 to BS455600 southwest to BS4455594 southeast to BS454585 southeast to BS460550. Area of Operation Split 1-46 Infantry from 4-3 Infantry from BS439600 southeast to BS438595 southwest to BS432580 southwest to BS429578 south BS429570 southwest to BS428562 south to BS424558 and southwest to BS421550. 1-46 Infantry makes air moved from Hill 54 and Fat City to Quang Ngai Airfield becoming OPCON to 11 Brigade and closing at 1935hrs.
Rear Area: Battalion Rear continued their Mission of general support for the battalion and continued their Security Mission for LZ Bronco. At 0810hrs Bravo Company 19 Engineer at BS753499 mine incident 5 ton truck dump hit mine. Pressure type estimate 25 pounds, EM evac 3rd degree burns over most of body (John Wells E-3). Requests Doze previously requested to be dispatched to field location.
Alpha Company
November 5, 1968
At 0800hrs Alpha Company conducts Combat Assault and completed at 0804hrs. At 1138hrs Alpha Company is located at BS429636 and continued to use Search and Destroy Operations in their Area of Operation. At 1745hrs Alpha Company is moving into their Night Defense Position at BS433641. Alpha Company reports CPT Kenneth W. Bartlett was attached to 27th Surgical Hospital.
Bravo Company

Bravo Company continued Search and Clear operations in their Area of Operation and at 1138hrs Bravo Company reports location at BS408612. At 1745hrs Bravo and Charlie Companies will join in their Night Defense Position located at BS407620.
Charlie Company
November 5, 1968
At 0717hrs Charlie Company conducted a Combat Assault to BS432628 to BS428612 and completed at 0753hrs, LZ is cold. At 1138hrs Charlie Company is located at BS420612 and by 1342hrs Charlie Company at BS433658 found old base camp.
Delta Company
November 5, 1968
Delta Company continued their Security mission for LZ Cork. At 1333hrs Delta Company at BS461617 observed 1 VC digging under tree, engaged with 81, HE rounds with negative results.
Echo Company
November 5, 1968
Echo Company is located at LZ Cork where Battalion Forward is and coordinates with the Battalion Rear Elements and Base Defense elements on LZ Cork. The 4.2 Platoon is located on LZ Cork where they continue to provide direct fire support for the (1-20 Infantry Battalion). At 0935hrs Recon Platoon at BS425640 found small base camp with men holes and some charcoal 3-4 hours old. At 1138hrs Recon Platoon reports their location at BS427642. At 1332hrs Recon at BS427641 found base camp 14 huts 20-25 feet long, 12’ wide and 2 mess halls, 50 holes each with 5’ tunnel. Command Post trenches around all base camp 9’ deep small holes every 4-5’. At 1330hrs found base camp area with 5 huts appeared to be Officer Quarters, or R & R center negative defensive position only bomb shelters.
