Headquarters and Headquarter Company
March 5, 1971

Forward Area: 1-20 Infantry Headquarters is located at LZ Liz and will continued to work with ARVN units in their Area of Operations. 1-20 Infantry is working under the Operational Control of the 198 Infantry Brigade. At 0445hrs MACV Mo Duc vicinity BS681610 received message above grid was in contact with an estimate company of VC. At 0505hrs Saber 40 scrambled to support the PF. At 0550hrs Saber 40 killed 1 VC evading along the river and at 0625hrs Saber 40 has broken station. At 0645hrs RF103/PF162/PSDF vicinity 766471, VC entered Thach Tru hamlet and threw a satchel in house of the Village Chief, resulting in 1 Vietnamese female WIA (chiefs wire) 1 house destroyed and not US confirmed. At 0650hrs PF144 vicinity BS689609 and BS681610, an estimate company of VC attacked Nghia Lap OP and village Headquarters at Duc Tho, resulting in 1 PF KIA, 4 PF WIA Light, 1 VC killed by Saber. At 0730hrs 4-4 ARVN vicinity 623548, while conducting a night raid engaged an unknown size enemy force with results: Enemy 11 NVA KIA, 1 M-16 CIA serial # 900793, 1 M CIA, 3 AK-47 CIA, 1 60mm mortar, 3 60mm mortar rounds, 20 Chi Com grenades CIA. Also with Friendly 1 ARVN KIA, 2 ARVN WIA, Dust Off was completed at 0630hrs. At 1600hrs Duc My village vicinity BS766471, upon questioning villagers, it was determined that 2 122mm rockets were fired into Duc My village early this morning. The rockets were fired in a direct fire role. The casing and tail fins were turned into the 198 TOC at LZ Bronco. The hamlet chief’s wife was injured in the attack. Legend: 1st Platoon 53, 2nd Platoon 98, 3rd Platoon 26, 4th Platoon 22, CO-66.

Rear Area: Battalion Rear continued their Mission of general support for the battalion and continued their Security Mission for LZ Bronco.

 

Alpha Company
March 5, 1971

Early this morning Alpha Company Command Post element had a Mechanical Ambush to detonated, results negative (BS629517). At 1650hrs Alpha Company the 3rd platoon moving to Night Defense Position at BS628523. At 1835hrs Alpha Company Command Post and 4th Platoon is moving into their Night Defense Position at BS632517 and the 2nd and 1st Platoon moving out to BS624514. At 2050hrs Alpha Company 3rd Platoon at BS628523 head movement 100 meters outside perimeter, engaged area with M-79 rounds. The first round M-79 hit a tree and fragments came back injuring 2 US, 1 has slight wounds to the foot and is routine Dust Off #L5904, and other had a wound to the head and in priority #F7252, Bird # 83 completed at 2130hrs.

 

Bravo Company
March 5, 1971

Bravo Company continued to set up Patrol Bases and use multiple patrolling in their Area of Operation. At 1825hrs Bravo Company reports that all Patrols have closed. At 1954hrs Bravo Company Command Post, 2nd and 4th Platoon at BS716435, 1st and 3rd Platoon at BS746421.

 

Charlie Company
March 5, 1971

Charlie Company believed they have the Security Mission for LZ Liz and road Security.

 

Delta Company
March 5, 1971

Delta Company had all platoons working their Area of Operation with patrols today. At 0755hrs Delta Company 1st Platoon ambush closed vicinity BS698533. At 0845hrs Delta Company 1st Platoon patrol is moving out to BS704544. At 1020hrs Delta Company 2nd Platoon patrol is moving to BS673578. At 1105hrs Delta Company 2nd Platoon patrol is moving to BS673578. At 1415hrs Delta Company 1st Platoon is at checkpoint 2 vicinity BS692528 and the 2nd Platoon is moving out for BS676568. At 1830hrs Delta Company all patrol closed, 2nd Platoon Patrol closed vicinity BS672572. At 2300hrs Delta Company 2nd Platoon at OP Wood stock heard loudspeaker broadcasts from BS671578. They engaged this location with 4.2 Mortar and small arms fire. The loudspeakers then stopped, 30 minutes later they received 1 incoming 60mm mortar round 200 meters east of perimeter.

 

Echo Company
March 5, 1971

Echo Company headquarters and 4.2 Mortar Platoon is location on LZ Liz, where the 4.2 Platoon providing direct fire support for the Battalion. Echo Company Headquarters has the responsibility for Base Defense. Recon Platoon continued their Security Mission for 1-20 Infantry. At 0725hrs Recon Platoon report they are in the Patrol Base at BS775398. At 1950hrs Recon is in location vicinity BS776394. SGT Dennis M. Dervin went sick to Company D 23rd Medical Battalion at 1400hrs.
