Forward Area: 1-20 Infantry Headquarters is located at LZ Liz and will continued to work with ARVN units in their Area of Operations. 1-20 Infantry at 0415hrs reports at 1940hrs Radar sighted 8 to 10 stationary personnel at BS748355 with negative clearance and at 1940hrs TMF sighted 6 to 8 personnel with metal at BS798329 and engaged with 6 rounds HE of Artillery 105. At 1950hrs sighted 8-10 stationary personnel were sighted at BS687459 with negative clearance and at 2005hrs 4 to 6 stationary personnel were sighted at BS810451 and engaged with 18 HE rounds of Artillery 105. At 2148hrs sighted 2 to 3 stationary personnel were spotted at BS782440 and Bravo Company was informed. At 2330hrs 2 to 3 stationary personnel where sighted at BS742433 and engaged with 9 HE of 4.2 Mortar and at 2340hrs 3-4 personnel were sighted moving west at BS740431 and engaged with 12 HE of 4.2 Mortar. At 0035hrs 4-6 stationary personnel were sighted at 767410 and engaged with 12 HE of 4.2 Mortar and at 0135hrs 4-6 stationary personnel were sighted at BS754385 and Alpha Company was informed. At 0155hrs 4-6 personnel were sighted at 0155hrs 2-4 stationary personnel were sighted at BS813416 with negative clearance. At 0335hrs 8-10 stationary personnel were sighted at BS782449 and engaged by Bravo Company and at 0430hrs 25 to 30 were sighted moving southeast at BS779483 and engaged with 24 fire cracker rounds of Artillery 105. At 0535hrs Radar at BS737397 sighted 8 to 10 stationary personnel and engaged with 32 HE rounds of Artillery 105. At 0805hrs Charlie Company 26th Engineer at BS775439 found a mine in the access road. It was 20-30 mines pressure release electrical type devices release and located 350 meters from highway 1 and was about 20 to 30 pounds charge. It blew a crater 6’ long and 5’ deep. At 0916hrs the Brigade Commander arrived at LZ Liz was briefed and left at 0940hrs. At 0800hrs Charlie Company 39 Engineer at BS713608 mine sweep team received small arms fire and returned fire and continued Mine Sweep.
Rear Area: Battalion Rear continued their Mission of general support for the battalion and continued their Security Mission for LZ Bronco.
Alpha Company

Alpha Company continued their multiple patrolling and saturation patrolling in their Area of Operation. Alpha Company has closed in to their Night Defense Position at BS751374, with multiple ambushes in position at 1926hrs.
Bravo Company
March 5, 1970
At 0524hrs Bravo 45 element has closed on BS783433 and the 18 element closed on their semi permanent position. At 0625hrs Bravo Company the 44 element is moving to BS796402 and the 48 element to grid BS784394. At 0715hrs Bravo Company the 46 element spotted 6 VC/NVA evading into a small Ville at grid BS789399, negative results. At 0720hrs Bravo Company 17 element is moving out. At 0800hrs Bravo Company the 44, 46 and 48 elements have closed on their objective. At 0850hrs Bravo Company the 48 element has received about 15 rounds of small arms fire from BS775390 with negative casualties, we are calling in Artillery with negative results. At 0913hrs Bravo Company the 63 and 67 elements are moving back to BS783433 and the 46 element is moving back to BS789417. At 0913hrs Bravo Company the 63 and 67 elements are moving back to BS783433 and 46 moving to BS789417. By 1000hrs Bravo 17 closed on BS783433, 44 at South Bridge, 65 closed on BS783433 and 07 has cancelled their patrol. At 1315hrs Bravo Company at BS784419 received 1 Vietnamese male with gunshot wound in the leg from unknown origin, Dust Off completed at 1340hrs to LZ Bronco At 1615hrs Bravo Company conducts a Combat Assault of troops from PZ BS795380 to BS789417 and last LZ was at 1630hrs and it was hot. Tet Holiday February 5 to February 9 at 1825hrs The 44 element is at BS786405 they received a heavy volume of small arms fire from BS784400, we are calling in Artillery with negative casualties. At 1830hrs Bravo Company all elements from the Combat Assault have closed except for the 48 element. At 1840hrs Bravo Company 14 element has 4 to 5 VC inside their wire. The VC evaded from BS776446 to a Ville and the 14 element moved out to check the area and received 3 M-79 rounds with negative results all VC where armed. At 1850hrs the 44 element is sweeping through grid BS785400 where they called in artillery. We have 1 CIS VC wearing black pants and a white shirt. He was approximately 40 years of age also had some documents. At 2025hrs Bravo Company the 06 element sprung their ambush on unknown number of VC/NVA to their west. We engaged with small arms resulting in 1 VC and 1 Vietnamese detainee CIA/WIA who was dusted off completed at 2050hrs grid BS780430. At 2100hrs Bravo Company Additional information on Ambush the 06 element was moving to their snake location when 200 meters short of their location when they ran into a number of VC. The VC engaged the 06 element with small arms fire and they then returned fire. The Result one VC KIA, who was wearing dark shorts and dark shirt, with negative documents, ID or weapon. The one female CIA and WIA, was wounded in the action but it is unknown how she received the wounds. The VC evaded to a wood line. The 06 element pulled back to let Shark 9 work the area over and Shark 9 expended all it’s ammo and broke station at 2050hrs. By the time we evaded 15 wounded Vietnamese at 2050hrs and by the time we finished we evaded 15 wounded Vietnamese at BS783433. At 2255hrs Bravo Company the 14 element at the Twin Ville reports 2 to 3 incoming sniper rounds from the east, with negative casualties.
Charlie Company

At 0600hrs all Charlie Company elements are in blocking positions BS742443 to BS747455, BS756459 to BS758455 and detain 7 VC (3 females & 4 children) 1 female had 17,000 piasters hidden in basket and the other 2 females were without ID and they all are extracted to LZ Bronco. At 1600hrs Charlie Company at BS757438 detained 2 males with ID that state they where 13 years old, they both looked 17 or 18 evac to LZ Bronco. Charlie Company we are sweeping to our Night Defense Position at BS735430 we detained 2 males with no ID approximately age 20-30 years of age; one has a tablet with figures on it and both had about $60 dollars in Piasters detainees turned into Military Intelligence.
Delta Company

Delta Company continued their Security Mission for LZ Liz. At 0636hrs Delta Company 23 moving out with Delta Company 21 at 0856hrs 21 picked up 2 VC at BS751452, one wearing purple and the other black shirt and purple pants. They are 35 years old and both well feed. One was a VC Private and one was a VC Village Chief. At 2225hrs Delta Company request an Urgent Dust Off for one US who was bitten by a scorpion three times. He was bitten on the right side and once on the left breast, Name Maldanado, completed at 2255hrs. Delta Company has the Security Mission of LZ Liz.
Echo Company

Echo Company headquarters and 4.2 Mortar Platoon is location on LZ Liz, where the 4.2 Platoon providing direct fire support for the Battalion At 0720hrs 4.2 Platoon reports Schedule Fires 10, Observed Missions 16 for total expended 46 HE and 32 Illumination. Echo Company Headquarters has the responsibility for Base Defense. At 0815hrs Recon reports the 21 element has closed on BS817413. At 1026hrs Recon Platoon reports our present location and Day Logger is at BS815414 with all elements at this location. The 12 elements will be moving out on their patrol to BS810412 shortly also reports their Night Defense Position will be at BS815416, the 22 snake will be at BS811417 and the 23 snake will be at BS811412. At 1310hrs the 22 element is moving to BS811417. At 1355hrs the 22 element spotted 2 VC evading at BS811413 resulting in 1 VC KIA with a M-1 Carbine, pistol belt and one hand frag grenade CIA. He was wearing blue pants. He had what looked like an operation order on him and a booklet like that of a tax collector. He was dressed in a black shirt and brown shorts and was carrying the blue pants, 23 years old.
