Headquarters and Headquarter Company
June 5, 1970

Forward Area: 1-20 Infantry Headquarters is located at LZ Liz and will continued to work with ARVN units in their Area of Operations. At 0503hrs 1-20 Infantry Radar Targets sighted 6 to 8 stationary personnel at BS756447 3 to 4 stationary personnel at BS755457 and 5 stationary personnel at BS775431 with Alpha Company informed of the targets and negative clearance due to the area being a built up area. At 0932hrs TMF String 72 was activated by 4 personnel moving west to east at 2 miles per hour with 4 HE of Artillery 105mm expended. At 1004hrs Charlie Company 4-3 Infantry the convoy is picking us up and we are leaving the 1-20 Infantry Area of Operation OPCON is return to their parent unit. At 0955hrs the 26 Engineer at grid BS767437 a D7 dossier hit a dud 155 round results in 1 Vietnamese national WIA (upper left leg) and Dust Off by the 26 Engineer. The D7 lost a hydraulic hose and is now deadline. At 1600hrs Intelligence Report: Duc My (V) Mo Duc security chief reports 1 VC platoon in the coming from BS715489 going to BS749489 to get rice. The Security Chief recommended 2 possible ambush locations 1 at BS742489 and 1 at BS744487. The VC will come out of the mountains around 1900hrs Alpha Company will react with personnel from Duc My (V). At 1635hrs Bravo Company Late report: at 1300hrs at BS780437 a member of the 39 Engineer while repairing a bridge on Highway 1 threw a rock through the wind shield of a Lambretta resulting in 20,000 piasters worth of damage, the 39 engineer notified by MACV Duc Pho.

Rear Area: Battalion Rear continued their Mission of general support for the battalion and continued their Security Mission for LZ Bronco. At 1915hrs 11 Brigade reports RF #103 at BS8238 the Command Commander, Platoon Leader and driver were ambushed by unknown size enemy force in their ¼ ton jeep Company Commander and Platoon leader wounded in legs and driver wounded in head, Dust Off to LZ Bronco.

 

Alpha Company
June 5, 1970

At 0645hrs Alpha Company routine Dust Off for one Vietnamese male with high temp and high pulse, the 74 element picked him up on their way to the Command Post ETA 0800hrs Completed at 0911hrs. At 1020hrs Alpha Company we requests and Urgent Dust Off for one Vietnamese child who was herding cattle at 7BS52465 and stepped on an unknown type booby trap, resulting in multiple injuries to right leg and left ankle, completed at 1030hrs. At 1240hrs we request an Urgent Dust Off for three US, and one Vietnamese child with multiple frag wounds at BS746450. One US was seriously injured, line # SP4 TATE, and 2 with minor wounds Chriswan and Bennett completed at 1350hrs. An M-26 Frag was thrown into the perimeter by a coke kid, approximately 12-13 who evaded. Tate has wounds to the buttocks and right leg, Chiswan appeared chest and left shoulder, Bennett with wounds to the left elbow. Alpha Company we request a routine Dust Off for one Vietnamese Child with multiple frag wounds of the buttocks from same frag which injury the US completed at 1310hrs. At 1650hrs Alpha Company we are moving to our Night Defense Position at BS744444, the 12 element wills secure the back haul at BS746450. At 1930hrs Alpha Company at BS749439 observed 3 VC 200 meters west engaged with small arms fire VC Evaded south, 2 VC WIA, 1 VC with Buddhist ID CIA also with poncho liner and camouflaged fatigues CIA. Dust Off to LZ Bronco at 2008hrs. On 6/6/70 Alpha Company reports the two US where evac SP4 Frank W Tate to 91st Evac Hospital and PFC Michael E. Chrisawn to the 27th Surgical Hospital.

 

Bravo Company
June 5, 1970

At 1045hrs Bravo Company we request an Urgent Dust Off for 5 Vietnamese civilians who were driving stakes along the road for the new fishing Ville at grid BS832395. They hit a 155mm round and part of it exploded, it could not be determined if it was a booby trap. One of the people injured was the Village Security Chief and the 52 element found a 155mm round booby trap pressure release type in the location and destroyed it in place. At 1635hrs Bravo Company late Report at 1300hrs at BS780437 a member of the 39 engineers while repairing a bridge on Highway 1 threw a rock through the windshield of a Lambetta resulting in 20,000 piasters worth of damage, the 39th Engineers was notified.

 

Charlie Company
June 5, 1970

Charlie Company will continue their Security Mission for LZ Liz. At 2000hrs all access road snakes are in location.

 

Delta Company
June 5, 1970

At 1032hrs Delta Company new Day logger will be at BS756560. Delta Continued to use multiple Day Ambush and multiple patrolling in their Area of Operation. At 1810hrs Delta Company on a Search and Clear Mission at BS740574 reports observed and engage a group VC with results 2 VC KIA and 1 VC CIA, 1 M-26 hand grenade and documents CIA, all were evac to LZ Bronco.

 

Echo Company
June 5, 1970

Echo Company headquarters and 4.2 Mortar Platoon is location on LZ Liz, where the 4.2 Platoon providing direct fire support for the Battalion. At 0600hrs 4.2 Platoon reports Fires Mission 7 for a total expended of 10 HE and 34 Illumination rounds. Echo Company Headquarters has the responsibility for Base Defense. At 0721hrs Recon our present location is at BS759614. At 1000hrs Recon the 94 snake is at BS766608, the 95 snake is at BS754611 and the 96 snake is at BS759601, these are tonight location. At 1645hrs Recon the 95 element at 1400hrs sent out a patrol from the Day Logger to check out 2 rounds of sniper fire received while moving to the Day Logger they found a 5 pound pull release type booby trap. It was 3 clicks from the Day Logger at BS751615.
