Forward Area: 1-20 Infantry Headquarters is located at LZ Liz and will continued to work with ARVN units in their Area of Operations. At 0630hrs Charlie Company the 54 element and Charlie Company 26 Engineer our work location is at BS726601. At 1715hrs Charlie Company 26 Engineer we have 3 D7 operational 1 D7 with 1 M548 fuel pump deadline. At total of 39 acres were cleared in the area BS728594 to BS728595 to BS730594 to BS770595 to BS730601 to BS730604 to BS762601 to BS733600 to BS735599 to BS733598 to BS735597 with 1 60mm mortar round, 1 5’ rocket, 1 155 round and 4 bunkers all destroyed. At 1840hrs Primo 3 detected 2 males and 1 female evaded, into a wood line. 2 slicks were requested with a PZ of 1900hrs and LZ of 1910hrs at BS772423. The PZ was completed at 1935hrs and the PZ at 1935hrs some documents and 3 sleeping positions were found.
Rear Area: Battalion Rear continued their Mission of general support for the battalion and continued their Security Mission for LZ Bronco.
Alpha Company
July 5, 1970
Alpha Company 1-20 Infantry continued their Search and Clear Operations in their Area of Operations from BS506432 and at 1150hrs Alpha Company 1-20 Infantry observed at BS445762 observed 10-12 persons carrying packs, passed on information to the 1-52 Infantry and Air Calvary and at 1230hrs 13 Blues where inserted at BS525390. At 1505hrs Alpha Company 1-20 Infantry and Delta Company 4-3 Infantry at BS506-BS433 received 15 round of automatic weapons fire from BS508425 and Delta Company 4-3 Infantry sent an element to clear the area.
Bravo Company
July 5, 1970
Bravo Company continued their joint Operations with PF and RF units on their Hamlet Pacification and security of Highway 1. At 0525hrs Bravo Company the 38 element is moving out. At 0624hrs Bravo Company the 56 element is moving to the Day Logger and the 17 element is at checkpoint at BS706627. At 1320hrs Bravo Company we request and Urgent Dust Off for 1 Vietnamese child. The child hit a booby trap and was brought to the Bravo Company 84 element location, the Dust Off was from LZ Snoopy at 1330hrs. At 1805hrs Bravo Company the 38 element reports that they were told by the Vietnamese that they were taking sniper fire at grids BS763584 and BS757583. At 1933hrs Bravo Company 56 element is moving out, the 58 element is moving out and the 38 element took sniper fire at BS757570 and the 38 element reports one KIA, 30. The 37 element is moving out the sniper came from 400 meters to the east and engaged with small arms fire and in checking the area 45 cal. pistol, 1 Chi Com grenade and a small amount of NVA money. At 2110hrs Bravo Company the 37 element is at BS708581 and the 7 element is at BS714617.
Charlie Company

At 0550hrs Charlie Company the 64 element is moving to BS803461, the 36 element is moving to BS780462 and the 38 element is moving to BS792449. Also the 14 element is moving to BS79646, the 17 element is moving to BS802453 and the 18 element is moving to BS809443. At 0630hrs Charlie Company the 54 element and Charlie Company 26 Engineer our work location is at BS726601. At 0710hrs Charlie Company we request an urgent Dust Off for 2 US with multiple frag wounds to the legs and hands from a booby trap. The booby trap was a trip wire type across a trial attached to a hand frag Names PFC George A. Deboer and SP4 Leonard M Groom JR completed at 0731. PFC Deboer was evac to 23 Med with frag wound to hand and abdomen wounds. SP4 Leonard M. Groom was JR evac to 91 EVC with frag wounds to both lower legs and evac to Japan. The 18 element found within 75 meters 3 booby traps in a roll 81mm round, claymore, 105 or 155, destroyed in place. At 0910hrs Charlie Company the 18 element found within 75 meters of each other and all on trails, 3 booby traps, which were destroyed in place. 1 was a 81mm mortar rounds with a pressure release type device. 1 was a claymore with a trip flare fuse and trip wire device. And the last one was either a 105 or 155 round with a trip flare fuse and trip wire device. At 1145hrs Charlie Company 54 the 56 element found 1 M16 (ammo) can that contained what appeared to be 1 1968-1969 diary, 1 bag of gauze and other medical supplies. Along with 1 textbook with Ho Chi Minh’s picture on the front, a paper with writing in Vietnamese and translated in English. Also there was 1 payroll sheet, and 2 photographs, 1 with 10 people in their dress suits, and 1 photo of approximately 30 people 1 with a weapon. At 1430hrs Charlie Company 54 the following items were found in (30 caliber) ammo can with 1 bottle of unknown type pills, along with other medical supplies at grid BS735603. At 1900hrs Charlie Company we have closed on our Night Defense Position at grid BS781453 with multiply ambushes in location. At 2112hrs Charlie Company the 37 element has its mechanical ambush set off.
Delta Company

Delta Company still has Security Mission for LZ Liz. At 1300hrs Delta Company driver found one VC WIA by his own booby trap at BS791496. The VC, he was 50 years old and wearing black pajamas. The VC was Dust Off to 23rd Medical at 1330hrs.
Echo Company
July 5, 1970
Echo Company headquarters and 4.2 Mortar Platoon is location on LZ Liz, where the 4.2 Platoon providing direct fire support for the Battalion. At 0540hrs 4.2 Platoon reports Fire Missions for a total expended of 58 HE and 16 Illumination rounds. Echo Company Headquarters has the coordination responsibility for Base Defense. Recon Platoon continued their Security Mission for 1-20 Infantry. Brigade Aviation at 1840hrs observed 2 males and 1 female evade into wood line. Recon Platoon was inserted at 1900hrs and swept are and found 1 bag of documents and 3 sleeping position. Documents evac to LZ Bronco and Recon Platoon 1-20 Infantry was extracted at 1955hrs.
