Headquarters and Headquarter Company
July 5, 1969

Battalion Forward: 1-20 Infantry is located at LZ Liz and continued their Mission and working with ARVN units in their Duc Pho Area of Operations. DTOC to 1-20 Infantry be prepared for deployment anywhere in Division. This instruction will be terminated at DATE/TIME 192400hrs July 69 unless otherwise directed, Inform DTOC of units’ Identity for compliance of this message. Do not reduce operations to meet this requirement without Division approval. 1-20 Infantry was given the mission at 051525hrs July 69 to have 1 Company prepared for Deployment anywhere in Division Tactical Area of Operations on a 2 hour notice. The commitment terminates at 192400hrs July 1969, inform this Headquarters of Unit Tasked ASAP. LZ Liz called Dust Off at 1805hrs and again for 2 men with temperature 105, 1 man from LZ Liz and 1 man from Delta Company. 1-20 Infantry Bunker line on Yellow alert-had what they thought to be 2 VC/NVA in front of perimeter, engaging with Quad 50 and 81mm mortars.

Battalion Rear: Battalion Rear continued their Mission for providing general support for the Battalion.

 

Alpha Company
July 5, 1969

Alpha Company continued their Security Mission for LZ Liz with security of bridges. At 0920hrs Alpha Company reports the 64 element has closed on LZ Liz, Alpha Company has the Security Mission for LZ Liz That evening the 64 element moving to grid BS7641 of security patrol.

 

Bravo Company
July 5, 1969

At 0855hrs Bravo Company the 44 element lift the Day Logger for a Recon in Force, and at 0912hrs the 44 element is at BS739449 which is their first Checkpoint. Also report a Cordon and Search will be conducted early tomorrow morning. At 2115hrs Bravo Company in the Night Defense Position received some sniper fire (small areas) from out east and we put some M-79 rounds in the area and haven’t received anymore.

 

Charlie Company
July 5, 1969

At 0845hrs Charlie Company our Day Logger will be same as Night Defense Position at BS830439. The 84 element goes on the Recon in Force and return to the Day Logger at 1050hrs. At 1315hrs Dust Off for 3 US personnel vomiting, high temp of unknown origin, have been sick a couple of days, got worse today completed Dust Off at 1350hrs. Names David Fowler, Douglas Baker, Kenneth Griesman. (Ajax 71) At 2050hrs Charlie Company moves into their Night Defense Position with the snakes at the 64 element at BS826434 and the 44 element at BS832431.

 

Delta Company
July 5, 1969

Delta Company all snakes closed on Night Defense Position at 0600hrs, and at 0715hrs Delta Company the 64 element moves out on a Recon in Force to grid 7346. At 0840hrs Delta Company established their Day Logger at BS745460. At 1850hrs requests a dust off for a man with 104 temp Joe A. Cintron, also had at LZ Liz Kenneth Jiles. At 2030hrs Delta reports Night Defense Position BS749468, with the 64 snake at BS747472 and the 65 element at BS745465.

 

Echo Company
July 5, 1969

Echo Company headquarters and 4.2 Mortar Platoon is location on LZ Liz, where the 4.2 Platoon providing direct fire support for the Battalion. Echo Company Headquarters has the responsibility for Base Defense. At 0650hrs Recon Platoon is moving at this time. At 0745hrs Recon Platoon vicinity BS842380 in contact at this time with unknown sized enemy force, proceeding forward under Recon by Fire. Spotted a total of six dinks and approximately 4 AK-47’s and requested Gun Ships and sent out Warlords. At 0950hrs Recon Platoon found some Bunker Positions concrete with sandbag reinforcement, results negative casualties or damage. At 1025hrs Recon Platoon received 3 rounds 82mm mortar they where hit along the beach, negative casualties, vicinity BS812380. At 1155hrs Recon Platoon is located at BS847380 and at 1430hrs Recon Platoon at BS842380 found bag 1st aid bandages, book with Vietnam writing and notebook of American names and addresses. At 1700hrs Recon reports their location BS854372.
